Spies Of Oak Hills ~Completed~

Chapter 47

Ariella’s POV

When I came to, my head began to pound heavily. When I attempted to bring my hand up to it, I couldn't. I opened my eyes and everything was a blur. Once my vision became clear, I took in my surroundings. The room had only one light source from an old light bulb that hung in the center of the room, swinging from side to side, and the shadow that it made came on and off of the walls. It slowly flickered, as if it was about to go out any second now, but didn't. The brown wallpaper was ripping off of the wall, and cobwebs were in the corners of the room. There were no windows, but instead were broken picture frames, some that I couldn't make out from where I was.

I looked down to myself and saw that I was tied to a chair. I was in my t-shirt, jeans, beanie, and black converse. I began to think of ways to escape as I looked to the legs of the chair that were drilled to the floor. My ankles were cuffed to them. That takes out one option of escaping. My wrists were in cuffs to the chair’s arms, and a chain was wrapped tightly around my chest. All of the cuffs had a key hole in each of them. That took the other option. Great. A couple voices were heard around me, in hushes. Dark figures of people which were the sources of the voices were seen at the opposite end of the room from me, next to the only door, and only way to escape. I looked up and saw no ventilation vents. The only way out is through the door.

“What do you think Walter will do to the girl this time?” one of the men said.

“If I was Walter, I would just kill her now. All of this anticipation is only setting everything back. Everything would be so much easier if he would just kill her now.” The other one responded.

“You know, Brittney really knocked her good.” The first was said, pondering.

“I just hope she doesn’t wake up soon. I heard that this girl fights rough. Brittney must be a really good fighter to be able to live after combat with this beast. Just what I love to see.” The second one said, smiling.

“I wish I could see her in action.” The first one said, gazing up into another world.

“If I were you, I would be careful what you wish for.” I spoke up, realizing that my throat was dry. Both men snapped their heads to me, before opening the door and bolting, leaving me on my own in my room. Judging by the way that their voices could still be heard through the metal door, they haven’t run far, which means not much time for me to escape out of this chair. I thought of what I could use in this room, and on me, which wasn't much.

I then remembered my beanie. I use bobby pins to hold my hat to my hair so it wouldn't slip off. I shook my head vigorously, feeling the bobby pins slip out of their place. A pin landed on my right thigh. I cheered in my head at the plan working. I moved my thigh closer to my hand, just enough so I could reach it with my hand. Once I successfully had the bobby pin in my grasp, I twiddled around with it using my fingers, so the pin went into the key hold. I twisted the pin a bit, until I heard a click. The cuff opened. I quickly unlocked my other wrist.

Once it was unlocked, I put the pin into the hem of my shirt, and began to turn the chain, hoping there was a lock on the back of the chain that was tied around me to the chair. The large lock appeared, but did not have a key hole. I brought it up to my ear, as I began to turn the dial, hearing the clicks when I was at the right number. Once I hit the third number in the combination, I pulled it away from me, unlocking the chain, my upper body now free. I wondered to myself why no one has come back yet as unlocked the cuffs to my ankles. I stood up, feeling dizzy and weak as I took my first step. I shrugged it off for now, knowing that I would have to find a source for energy soon.

As I reached for the handle to the metal door however, it opened, swinging to me, slamming me against the wall as it opened. I held in the yell I wanted to scream out, since that would blow my cover. Multiple pairs of feet came rushing into the room as I was trapped between the door and the wall. I counted about five pairs of feet.

“Seriously?! You let her escape?!” a familiar voice yelled. I thought for a moment, trying to match a face with the voice.

“Sir, we didn’t help her escape I swear!” another voice said. It was the guards that were here when I awoke.

“Then why is every single cuff unlocked, and the lock to the chain undone?!” he said, raising his voice per word.

“She must have escaped on her own sir, I can assure you that we did not help her.” A different voice said.

“Alright.” He said. The two that spoke stayed silent.

“Really?” one of them spoke up.

“Yeah. Really. But, just to make sure.” I heard a snap of fingers, before a pair of feet from next to me, walked over to the sound of the snapping. I heard a click.

“Sir, you don’t have to do this.” One of them pleaded.

“Like I said, just to be sure.” Both men started to talk at once, pleading for him to not, but I wasn’t sure of exactly what they were talking about. I was able to catch what one of them said.

“Walter, listen to me, she escaped. We are not like Louis, okay? She escaped on her own. It wasn’t because of us so-“before he could finish, a loud piercing sound echoed in the room, multiple times.

Gun shots.

“Gents, clean up this mess and take them away.” Walter said. The remaining two pairs of feet scurried to the center of the room. Grunts were made, and they quickly left. I pondered whether or not Walter went with them or not, until his voice was heard in the center of the room.

“Did you like what you heard Ms. Edwards?” he said. My heart dropped. His footsteps were quiet, but I still knew he was walking in my direction. I saw a hand on the edge of the door next to me, before it was swung shut, leaving me and Walter alone in the room. One of us equipped with a gun, unafraid to use it at any moment. I looked up and saw Walter, of course pointing a shot gun at me. He still looked the same, I raised my hands up in surrender.

“How?” I asked him.

“Ariella, did you really think that I was stupid enough to let history repeat itself? Did you not notice the security camera over there?” he used the gun to point to the small security camera behind the cobwebs. I looked to the other corners of the room that had cobwebs and saw more cameras behind them. I was astonished.

“Wait, if you knew that I was I broke myself free, why did you kill two of your own men?” I asked him. He shrugged.

“I have many more of them anyways. They always bothered me as well, so I wanted to do that for a while.” He said, dropping the gun from its aim at me. He placed it on an empty table next to him, and quickly walked over to me, gripping my neck, pinning me against the wall behind me. I reached for his hands to pry them off, but the more I struggled, his grip became tighter.

“Listen to me closely. Will you listen to what I have to say?” I was barely capable of breathing, so I nodded my head, unable to speak. The grip loosened from my neck, and he picked me up, throwing me onto his shoulder. He casually walked out of the room and into the hallway, many of his henchmen walking by, staring at me. Thank God I wore jeans and not my skirt…

We entered what seems like his office, but not like the one from before. The light shone bright through the tall windows, the curtains pulled all the way back, letting every ounce of light inside. He walked over to the curtains, shutting them tight, as my eyes regained sight. I can tell already that I am not in the same location as the first time I came here, and met Louis, who helped me escape. I remember how thoughtful he was to me when he helped me escape… I wonder if they know I am even gone. How long was I gone? What day is it?

“Walter, what day is it?” I asked him as he threw me off of his shoulder and land on the floor, not giving two shits about the pain shooting up my spine. I thought of another way to escape by using reverse phycology with causal talk.

“None of your concern.” He spat back.

“Yeah, it is. I just want to make sure, so I know when Prom is. The girls and I are going to shop for dresses in the weekend.” I lied, making sure that it seemed believable. The girls and I actually have to do that now that I think about it, since Prom is coming up very soon, May 12th actually. Last time I knew the date if I can remember, was April 26th.

“You aren’t going to Prom, Ariella. You aren’t going anywhere actually. You are staying here. Got it?” he said, going to his desk to light a cigarette. Not this again.

“Why do I have to stay here? Why now? Couldn’t this have waited until, oh I don’t know, after graduation?” I asked him, staying in my spot of the floor, waving my hands in the air as I spoke. Walter just spun in his chair and looked out to the window, his back to me.

“I want to make sure you don’t make it to graduation, or even Prom. I plan to keep you here, that is, until your father comes back. We already took care of your mother, if you haven’t found out already, being the great spy that you are.” My heart skipped a beat, at the reminder of my mother’s passing. Anger started to build up inside of me as I stood up. His back was still to me so he couldn’t see me.

“Why did you do it?” I already know the answer, but I want him to say so. He waved his cig in the air, letting its dark fumes leave a trail in the air.

“Simple: To eliminate your father.”

“Why?”

“Because I don’t like him. I never did.” I was now confused.

“He used to be one of us, he betrayed the leader of Black Cove, for your mother, who was my girlfriend at the time.” Okay wait a minute. Too many love triangles now.

“Wait, so let me get this straight, you and my mom used to go out…?” I asked. He spun in his chair, expecting to see me on the floor as he looked down to my feet. His gaze finally met my eyes. He nodded. “But she left you for my dad…” He nodded again. “Yet, Mrs. Edwards,” my face cringed at her name.

“That really isn’t your mother.” Walter added. I nodded.

“Yet Mrs. Edwards crushed on my dad.” I spoke to myself. “You both tried to separate my parents…”

“You’re getting warmer…”

“Wait.” My head started to pound. The door swung open.
