Stole My Heart

I stared out of the window for a while and listened to what the others were saying. I could swear that I heard my name and Luke's more than once but I was too tired to ask. Eventually, I felt my eyes grow heavy and my head began to sink. Luke still had his arm around me but was talking to Sarah. I leaned closer to him to rest my head on his shoulder. I know that he bent down and whispered something in my ear but I was too tired to comprehend it and fell asleep.

Luke’s P.O.V.

I glanced over at Laurel and she was staring out the window. She appeared to be deep in thought so I didn’t want to disturb her.

I turned around and saw that Niall and Liam had gotten up to talk with Michael and Calum so Sarah came over and sat down where they had been.

“Hello Lucas.” She said cheerfully.

“Hey Sarah.” I responded in the same tone.

“Sup?” she asked.

“Not much.” I replied nodding at Laurel whose eyes were slowly drooping and head slowly came to rest on my shoulder.

“Well that’s cool.” She said vacantly, as though she had something else on her mind. “Do you trust me?”

“Sure… I guess…” I answered, not really knowing how to respond.

“Can I ask you something then? Something that I’ve been meaning to ask you for a while now?” she said hopefully.

“Look Sarah…” I said not knowing how to begin. “I like you and all… just not like that… I already like someone else…”

A confused look came across her face and she jerked backwards. “What are you talking about? I wasn’t asking you out! I was just going to ask you if you liked Laurel! Would she happen to be that ‘someone else’?”

“What… pff… no! Of course not! I mean… well… maybe… ish... I guess…”

Sarah raised an eyebrow and started eyeing the arm that I had put around her. “Ashton and I both think you do.” She said nodding over towards Ashton.

I sighed, defeated. “Fine, maybe I do. But so what? It’s not like she’d ever go out with me!”

“Are you kidding me?” She asked jumping up. “You are Lucas Robert Hemmings for Pete’s sake! She is head-over-heels for you!”

“What?” I asked confused and not sure if Sarah was pulling my leg, though she didn’t seem like the kind of person to do that. But if Ashton put her up to it…

“Come on! Don’t pretend that you don’t notice the way that she stares at you or stays behind to catch one more quick glimpse of you! She talks about you and before you two met she would always talk about how hot you were and how cute your accent is and how she was going to marry you one day. Are you really that blind? ”

“Apparently.” I said and stood up and crossing my arms. “But that’s ridiculous! She didn’t want to go out with Niall – what makes you think that she’d go out with me instead?”

“Hmm… I don’t know… maybe the fact that you two were made for each other!” she yelled sarcastically throwing her hands up.

“When did that happen?”

“Ugh! Boys!” she let out, exasperated. “Luke, I’m only trying to help you.”

“I know. I’m not upset.” I said, giving her a hug.”

“Look, just ask her out. I know she’ll say yes.” Sarah said confidently.

“It’s not that easy. She makes my heart feel like it’s going to burst out of my chest every time I see her let alone talk to her!”

“I know what you mean.” She mumbled under breath and casting a quick glance at Ashton. “If you are planning to you might want to do it soon -” She said nodding towards Niall who was staring at Laurel. “before someone else does.”
