Stole My Heart

Two days had passed quite slowly, probably because I kept worrying about what my dad would say. He finally did consent the night before we had to go. The girls had stayed over at my house the night before so that we could all arrive at the airport at the same time. We had agreed that we would all wake each other up at 6:30. I woke Nina up first because she was a light sleeper then both of us went over to wake Sarah. Sarah sat there for a while before finally giving us a hand with Heather who did not want to get up. Nina finally got her up by beating her with her pillow.

We took turns getting showers and then went upstairs to eat. After that we got dressed and piled all of our stuff into the car. Everyone’s families decided that they would meet us at the airport before we left. We were oddly quiet on the ride there, probably because we were all too busy thinking about what it would be like on tour; I know I was.

When we got there, we saw the boys clumped together waving at us. There were security guards all over the place. We found somewhere to park and looked around for our families. While we were waiting, Luke, Ashton, Liam, Louis, and Harry came over and offered to help us with our luggage.

We opened up the trunk and I was starting to wonder how we had managed to fit everything inside. All of our stuff was crammed in so tightly we could barely manage to pull all of it out.

I was struggling with a particularly heavy bag when Luke walked over. “Here, let me help with that.” He came around behind me, put his arms around mine and pulled. With one firm tug, it came loose. I flew backwards into Luke's chest. “You all right?” he asked looking down at me concerned.”

“Yeah, thanks.I’m fine.” I replied blushing.

Sarah suddenly walked by and started coughing strangely, her eyes going back and forth between me and what appeared to be my family walking towards us. I quickly took a step away from Luke, still not looking directly at him and again mumbled, “Thanks.” My dad would not be happy if he saw me in Luke’s arms. He seemed to take the hint and stepped away too, acting as though it had never happened, for which I was grateful.

The other girls’ families arrived shortly after mine did. The boys said hello and continued to unload our things. Jordan and Sean ran over to me, tears in their eyes.

“Mommy says you’re leaving.” Sean said, a fresh set of tears pouring down his face.

“Yes, I am. But don’t worry; I’ll be back.” I said gently, giving him a hug.

“I don’t want you to go. I’ll miss you.” Sean said.

“I know and I’ll miss you too. But I… I just have to. Goodbye Sean.” I replied giving him another hug.

“Bye.” Was all that he said before turning around and running back over to my mom. My eyes started to water and I tried to blink the tears away.

“Goodbye Jordan.” I said, turning to face him and giving him a hug.

“Bye. See ya tomorrow!” Jordan said returning the hug.

“Jordan, I’m not going to be home tomorrow… I’m not going to be home for eight months. I love you. And be good!”

“Bye Laurel.” He said before running off to join Sean.

Kelly came over next. Her face was red but I didn’t see any tears in her eyes so I wasn’t sure if she had been crying or not. “Goodbye Laurel.” she choked.” I’ll miss you.”

“Bye Kelly. I’ll miss you too. Help mom with the boys, okay?” I asked.

She nodded and gave me a hug before going back over with the others.

Max walked over next. He didn’t look any different than he normally did. “Mom says I can have your room when you’re gone.”

“As long as you keep it clean and I get it back when I come home – fine.” I stated.

“You.” He said pointing to Luke. “You’d better take care of my sister. And don’t try anything or else we will have a serious discussion.”

A smile spread over Luke’s face as he said, “Don’t worry about it.” and put his hand on my shoulder. “I’ll take good care of your sister.

“That’ll do Max.” I said, a bit embarrassed and annoyed. “Goodbye.”

He reached out his hand for me to shake and I took it awkwardly before he walked away.

My mom came over with my dad crying. “Are you sure you’ve got everything?” she asked looking around as the boys continued to unload our stuff.

“Yeah I’m sure mom. I double-checked and everything.”

“I’m going to miss you so much.” She said hugging me.

“I will miss you too mom.” I said.

“Mind your manners. Don’t talk to strangers. Don’t go wandering on your own. Stay with the boys. Remember to-”

“She knows.” My dad said gently. “She’s old enough to take care of herself.”

“Right. Sorry. It’s just that I get so worried.”

“Bye dad. Thank you for letting me go with them.”

“Just as long as you’re sure you’re making the right decision” he replied.

“Yes dad. I’m sure.” I responded.

“Well then, goodbye Laurel. Take care. I love you.” He said before giving me a hug.

“Goodbye dad. I love you too.”

“Laurel, we have to go.” Luke said coming over.

“Well, go on.” My dad said.

“We love you Laurel. Don’t forget to call!” My mom yelled as I started to walk away with Luke.

“I won’t!” I called over my shoulder.

Everyone else appeared to be waiting for me. Sarah had tears in her eyes and Heather looked like she had been crying. Once Luke and I reached them we headed on the plane. We took our seats: Heather sitting next to Louis, Sarah by Ashton, and Nina by Harry. I took a seat by the window and Luke sat down next to me. Niall sat behind us with Liam. I looked out the window and saw my family standing there waving. Tears once again began to fall down my face as I thought about how long it would be before I saw them again. I waved back at them and Luke put his arm around my shoulder and tried to wipe away my tears.

“I’m sure going to miss them.” I said after a while.

“It’ll be all right,” he whispered softly.

I nodded and sighed, leaning my head on Luke’s shoulder. I continued to gaze out of my window at my family until they were little black specks. Luke pulled me closer to him and I smiled and closed my eyes. We were finally on our way!
