Stole My Heart

I woke up, quickly showered and straightened my hair. I gave up braiding my hair the night before. Niall had promised to be back three days ago and he still hadn't called or texted me. I was more disappointed than mad but I couldn't figure out why he hadn't told me that he couldn't come. I missed him so much and he was all I could think about. I cried myself to sleep thinking about him. All the things that we did; running into him while skating, the concert, the tour bus, the movie, saying goodbye, the kiss... It all seemed so long ago, like a memory or dream that you only look back on, a distant memory.

I was jerked out of my thoughts when Jordan ran into my room and slammed the door.

"Hi Laurel!" was all that he said before he ran out of the room again. I laughed and shook my head before continuing to straighten my hair. Once I had finished I went into my closet to find something to wear. I finally decided on a simple green plaid flannel shirt of which I rolled up the sleeves, a pair of light blue shorts, and grey boots.

I went downstairs to eat and saw Sean chasing Jordan around with who knows what. I told them both to sit down and got them some breakfast as well as some for myself. I finished getting ready before I went back down the stairs and drove to work.

I was the first one at the store which was unusual, in fact, I was there pretty early. I sat on the counter although I probably should have checked to see if there was anything that needed doing but oh well. Sarah came into work on time but Heather was a bit late.

We took our break at noon and just messed around, pretty much like any other day. Once it was over we got back to work. The store was busier than usual which meant more work for us, but I liked my job for the most part. Because it was so busy, Heather and Sarah went around to see if any of the customers needed help while I worked the register. I wasn't the best at math, but I did pretty well.

The store was pretty empty by 3:00 but Sarah and Heather were still walking around, doing more talking than working. I was unpacking boxes when five people came up to the register.

"Hi, how are you doing today?" one of them asked.

Their accents sounded weird so I looked up and instantly recognized them, despite their sunglasses and hoodies. They took off their sunglasses and put down their hoods and stood there smiling. I was standing there frozen in disbelief - they had come back!

"It's good to see you again." Niall said.

I ran from behind the counter and over to him. He picked me up and spun me around until I was dizzy. I couldn't stand up right and things were still a bit fuzzy so Niall held me in his arms.

"I missed you so much." he said holding me tighter.

"I missed you too." I replied, almost in tears.

Heather and Sarah ran over to see what all of the commotion was. Heather screamed and flung herself at Louis. Sarah ran over and just started hugging all of them.

I pulled back after a while and looked into Niall’s eyes saying, “You’re late. You promised you’d be here three days ago. And I wouldn’t mind so much if you have just texted or called saying that something came up. I thought that you had forgotten all about me and that you weren’t coming back. What happened?”

“Laurel, we had to do some last minute interviews over there and then our flight was delayed.” he said.

“Well why didn’t you call?” I asked.

“I lost my phone and found it this morning. I would have called but we were so busy.” he said, desperately trying to convince me.

“That was all, you promise?” I asked carefully.

“I promise.” He said then leaned to kiss me on the forehead before saying, “I would always come back for you Laurel.”
