Alyssa's Point of View

Why does he have to be so damn adorable? I don't know how I can say no to his proposal, it was so cute and so thoughtful. Knowing Harry, he'll stick by my side the whole night and nothing bad will happen. But will that take away all of his fun? He's right, it's his only chance for homecoming and I don't want to be the one to ruin it.

I flipped through the pages of my history book and read about the Civil War. Usually I'd be thrilled to learn something new about the North and the South but right now my brain is lost. I want to call Marilyn but I already know she's going to make me go with him; especially after the note he wrote.

My book was thrown across the room and I pulled my sheets over my head covering my whole body. I told myself I'd never go again. I felt a few tears gliding down my cheek and onto my nose but I let them be. This dance can go one of two ways: absolutely amazing, or just like freshman year.

*flashback*

"Perfect!" Marilyn said as she finished perfecting my eye make-up. "You look so beautiful best friend!"

I smiled and took a look in the mirror. Wow, I actually do look nice. My hair is nice and straight, almost reaching my shoulders. I frowned, wishing my hair was still down my back. But my eyes definitely pop and the color of my lips are so vibrant; I'll feel awful when I decide to take a drink or bite into something.

"Thanks Marilyn, you made me look beautiful." I smiled and we leaned in for a long hug.

"I know, I'm amazing" she giggled as she finished up her own hair.

We walked into the dance with no dates. Marilyn was asked by a few guys but she turned them down so we could go together. I don't know how I got so lucky to have a friend like her. She truly is the best.

The gym is beautiful and for the first time it doesn't smell like feet. Lights are hung from the ceiling and draped down almost touching the floor. The actual dance floor is tiled and bright. There's a disco ball hanging above the room for the many students that will be dancing underneath tonight.

Of course we are close to being the first one's here. I guess you aren't supposed to be right on time for these kind of things. We found the snack table and sat down with plates full of cookies and veggies.

"What a great meal" I spoke sarcastically over the loud music.

"Hey, we got our vegetables! That's all that matters!"

Marilyn and I talked for a few minutes before people began swarming in. The dance floor was now filled with about forty students and now I just feel weird. I'm going to be sitting here the whole dance watching my peers grind and make out on the dance floor.

I watched everyone dancing as Marilyn continued talking about some guy she wants to dance with. I found Amber and she stared at me seductively. I quickly turned away and blushed from embarrassment. She did that on purpose. My freshman year has already sucked so far. Amber has made sure I have absolutely no friends by spreading rumors and cutting my hair. That was probably the most hurtful thing anyone could have done to me. I grabbed my wrists quickly and forced them on my lap. I cut for the first time last week and it hurt, but it felt good at the same time.

"Hi." I gasped as Jordan said hello to me and Marilyn.

"Hey." I said quietly and Marilyn waved. He was looking at me so intently; was he going to ask me to dance? Jordan's so nice, maybe he'd be my first dance.

"Um, Alyssa?"

"Yeah?" I began to smile gradually.

"Amber said she wants to talk to you for a minute. And Marilyn, do you want to dance?"

I looked down at my m&m cookie I have yet to eat and smiled a little more. I should've known he in't interested in me. This week I apparently tried to commit suicide. That's Amber's new story. It's like a new one each week--except this one was pretty close to accurate.

"Alyssa? Is it okay if I go dance?"

"Yeah! Go dance!" I can't believe Marilyn is asking for my permission. She looks beautiful in her flowy, sky blue dress and any guy would be lucky to dance with her. "I'll be here when you're done."

Jordan took her hand and I winked at her as she walked off with him. They'd be a really cute couple. I sighed and twiddled my thumbs. I really would love to leave but if I did I'd hear it from Megan and Erin. Ugh, I can't stand them.

"So, sis, why are you sitting all alone?" Speak of the devils.

"Well, I don't have a date so...." Erin and Megan sat across from me and crossed their arms. What have I ever done to them? Oh! I forgot! I guess two weeks ago I slept with Erin's boyfriend and told Miss Carter Megan cheated on her last exam. I didn't even know Megan had an exam. Fucking Amber.

"You could always dance with Robert." Megan gave me a creepy grin.

"You look like the joker when you smile like that. You really shouldn't." I stuffed my cookie in my mouth and finally stood. I refuse to listen to tweedledee and tweedledum for another minute. I reached for my small satchel and headed for the restroom.

Ouch.

"You wanna watch where you're going?" Of course.

"Sorry Amber."

"I thought Jordan told you I wanted to talk to you." She's such a snob.

"Must have forgot." I tried to ween around her but she stopped me.

"Look Alyssa, I'm sorry." What did she just say? "I know I've hurt you a lot lately and I feel bad. I have been thinking a lot and I think that I need to mend things with you."

This.is.not.happening. See, I wouldn't normally believe her, except a tear just slipped down her face.

"Amber, it's fine. Really, I'm okay." I tried to keep walking but she stopped me.

"Can we just start over?"

"Sure, but I really need to use the bathroom."

"Okay, but come to my after party so we can talk!" I nodded and thought about it. Amber's too stupid to just let out tears on cue. Maybe she means it.

*end flashback*

"Hey, Lys? You okay." I popped my head out of the covers to see Luke standing in my door way eating out of the peanut butter jar.

"Yeah, what's up?"

"I think I'm going to hang out with Marilyn, is that cool with you?" A huge smile took over my face.

"Yes! That's awesome. I knew you liked her." He rolled his eyes and then I remembered she's leaving next month. "But Luke, be careful. She's leaving."

We both lost our happiness for a moment and then came back to reality. A month is a long time and she'll be back. I'm sure they'll be fine. It's not like they're getting married any time soon.

"Go have fun! But don't do anything gross because she'll tell me all about it."

Luke laughed and thanked me for my generosity. I don't think most siblings would be okay with them dating their best friend.

Maybe I should do something with my life.

I stood up and stretched, wondering what Harry's doing. Usually after school he's in my room pestering me by now. Maybe he's waiting for me to give him my decision. I already told him no but no doesn't work with him.

Hopefully telling him about what happened my freshman year will help my situation. He may back off and let me stay home for the night; reliving that awful night over and over.

"Alyssa!" Ugh, and here he is.

"Yeah? Where've you been?"

"I got something!" Harry held a hanger up above his head and there was his tux for the dance.

"Seriously? I didn't even say yes."

"But you didn't say no." I sighed, wait,

"I did say no!"

"You didn't mean it though." He laughed and walked away into his room. He is way too happy right now.

I walked into his room and sat on his bed as he tucked his suit away into his closet. He's made his room very homey since he's arrived. I feel like when he leaves I may sit in here and think about all of our memories. Most of them haven't happened yet but I'm sure they will be fairly descent.

"Harry, I can't go."

"Sure you can" he said as he sat across from me.

"I can't though."

"Okay, you don't have to."

"Huh?"

"Give me a good reason and you don't have to go." I don't have to give him any explanation.

"Harry Styles, I am not going to the dance with you or anyone else."

I stood up feeling a little angry; not at him, just from flashbacks of what happened. The closer it get's to the dance, the worse the flashbacks will become.

"Alyssa, sit down," I crossed my arms and looked at him, balancing my left foot on my right, "please tell me why you don't want to go to the dance."

Marilyn is the only one who know what really happened--from my point of view at least. I guess I could let one more person in on what happened.

"Fine." I sat back down leisurely, not making eye contact while I debated where to start. I could start from the very beginning when Marilyn begged me to go, or I can start when I got to Jordan's house for the after party. Either way I'm going to end up crying.

Notes

Thank you all for getting me back up to a 10! It really means a lot!
So what do you think happened to Alyssa?
Will Harry be able to get her to go to the dance?
