The Girl Who Waited

Chapter Three

Daisy's POV

I leaned against the pole, waiting for Liam. "Daisy?" I jumped at the sound of my name.

"Who's there?"

A boy with blonde hair and sharp, blue eyes emerged from the dark. "It's just me, Niall." He looked vaguely familiar, but I couldn't place why.

"How do you know who I am?" My voice was shaky.

"Shhh," he said walking over to me slowly. "Just calm down- it's okay. Liam couldn't come so he told me to do a makeshift."

"Oh." Oops, I made myself sound like a complete fool. I felt a blush creeping up my face.

"I didn't think you were in the mood for worksheets so I was thinking something more along the lines of," he paused. "Stopping at a fast food restaurant and going to watch a movie?"

Well, I wasn't expecting that. "Yeah, that would be fine." I told him earnestly, hoping he wouldn't change his mind at the last second.

"So," I said slurping on my soft drink. "Tell me about yourself."

Niall's face darkened. "My past isn't all that great." He took a breath. "People have spread rumors about my family."

"Like what?"

"Drugs and that sort." He shrugged his shoulders. "People accused us of selling pot and the police sent in dogs to check our house for any hidden stashes. They didn't find anything, but it didn't matter because our name had been ruined so we had to move. Before the move people at school started making snide comments towards me. It was so bad I started becoming depressed."

"I'm so sorry." I couldn't imagine going through something like that.

Niall gave me a small smile. "It's not your fault and I'm doing much better than before. My parents dropped off me and my friends in the city - near the water park - to take my mind off things."

"Wait- did you go to the water park?" My heart was racing. Could this be one of the boys we met while there? Could that be why he looked so familiar?

"Yes," Niall said slowly. "Why?"

"A week before school started?!" My heart was pounding, excitement was for filling my entire body. Niall nodded nervously. I reached across the table and grabbed his hand, holding it tightly. "We've met before! Why it's me! Daisy!"

His eyes narrowed at me and then widened in surprise. "Daisy?" He asked softly.

"But you never told me your name," I pouted. "Why was that?"

"Well," he started. "It's not like I expected to see you again!"

"I know, but- oh, this is so exciting!" I squealed. "Wait till Esme and Kirsten find out- they won't believe it!"

Niall's POV

What a stupid, idiot girl. Of course I knew it was her. In fact I knew it all along! What- did she think it was a coincidence? Ha! We've been planning this ever since we met them at the water park. I would never choose to live in this stupid town without a good motive.

Every year it was someone new. We all wore masks and hid our real identity to learn their secrets and break them. They were too confident and didn't know what it was like to feel pain- like the rest of us. We weren't mean, we only showed them the possible dangers of life. We posed as friends because who would expect a friend to tear them to pieces?
