The Last Goodbye

Hidden

I imagine my life to be quite ordinary. I'm eighteen, attending my last year of high school, I have plans to off to college, and so on. I read books like my life depends on it and I absolutely hated being alone. I've always felt like I needed someone to always be there with me so I wouldn't have to face my harsh reality, like I was now.

Looking at the person across from was the complete opposite from my ideal ordinary world. I looked around the circle we so awkwardly stood in. Every single one of our faces look as if we were all hiding something. Yet no one said a word. I had to had to find away to get Harry out of here without being recognizable.

There was a huge chance that people would react the same way Beth and I did. That is why I needed to keep him hidden. I didn't know how we were to excuse ourselves from this unlikely group of people. Out of nowhere Beth tugged on my arm and she kept her grasp on Harry.

"Will y'all excuse us for a moment." She said walking as quickly as possible.

The building was a two story and we walked up a flight of stairs. The top floor appeared to be vacant and most of the sound was muffled. Beth had let both of our wrist go.

"Okay I am still trying to wrap my head around all of this. " Beth said clutching on to her stomach.

What was there to explain? I did the only thing I knew to do and that was to tell the her the truth. Minus a few miner details. I started at the beginning and told her when I saw him in my grandmother's attic. When I got to the part about the red tulips I was cut of by Harry.
"What flowers?" He asked.
"The flowers that were delivered to her house." I said.
"I never sent flowers." Harry answered. I felt stupid as soon as I heard his response.

Of course he didn't send them how could he. But someone had too. "What about the flower on my pillow?" He was going to say something. Beth stopped him and spoke up.

"What's so important about these damn flowers?! We need to focus on the bigger picture here?" She said making an outline of Harry. "I'm going to need a psychiatrist after this." Beth laughed frantically.

"Maybe I should give the two of you a moment." Harry said preparing to leave.

"You can't just walk down there. What if people see you?" I asked him. Harry's face went blank "So you just want me to sit up here all night?"

"That could work." Beth agreed.

"I don't need babysitting." He protested. "You need someone to watch you. Victoria I'll go back downstairs and keep Christian distracted. While you find somewhere to keep him." Beth ordered.

"You don't have to do that." I said.

"If you think about it all of this is exciting." She said ignoring me. She walked down the stairs and left the two of us alone.

The last couple of times I was alone with Harry things happened that shouldn't have. I pulled my mask over my head and wrapped the string around my wrist. I looked down and could see the party happening below. Harry slid next to me.

"Hi." He said slowly.

"Can you at least tell me one on thing?"

"Depends on what your asking?" He said.

"Have we met before?" I asked not taking my consecration off the crowd. "No." He quick and to the point. "That's what I thought you would say. Now I'm even more scared and confused." I confessed.

"Scared of what?" Harry asked. I suppressed a sigh and managed to stay quiet, but Harry nudged my head towards his. I picked up his hand and held it up.

"This." I am now that girl with boyfriend issues, my best friend is now invested in this , and on top of that your dead." I flatly dropping his hand. I could see his muscles tense up and he moved away.

"Can you can give me time?" He asked.

"I don't make deals with ghost." I joked.

"Touché." He replied. While he wandered around I continued to admire all the rambunctious teens that got lost in the atmosphere of the party. From my view it looked like a huge garden with lantern lights strung all around. I turned around and he was looking at a door.

He pushed opened the wooden door and it led to another hall. "Wanna go for a walk?"

"Maybe we shouldn't do that." I suggested.

"Before you go to war with yourself. Christian is downstairs." He said

"It's no that simple." I said. He started to walk though the door."So...you coming?" I admit I acted impulsively and followed. Every move I made was more wrong than right.

The hall was cold, gloomy, and dark. Dusty painting hung on the walls and all the doors were locked. It looked abandoned. And of course it had to rain.

"It jut dawned on me that I know nothing about you." I said sitting on the short gray bench that sat in from of a large glass window.

"What exactly is it that you want to know?" He said leaning against the wall.

"Isn't it obvious?" He shoved his hands in his pockets and stared at the floor. "Do you have powers?" I laughed. He closed his eyes like a sign of relief and tried not laugh. He smiled. "None whatsoever."

"Well I'm disappointed." I said mimicking his accent. I couldn't help but let my mind wander about what was happening at the party below us. Beth hasn't come back yet and Christian didn't bother to come lol for me.

The rain was coming down faster. When it hit the window it sounded like rocks and on top of that it was lighting outside.
Every now an then it would light up the sky and illuminate into the hall.

"Want to try again?"

He had caught me off guard."What?"

"Dancing. We were interrupted the last time." He said.

"Remember the last time we danced?"

"I believe at one point you stepped on my foot." He pulled me up before I could say no. "I didn't step on your foot." I mumbled. "You can barely hear anything over the thundering." I said.

"Pretend."

I wanted to ask him another question. I hesitated before I did. "Why did you kiss me?"

"Why are you up here with me instead of with your friends?" He asked.

"You didn't answer my question? And you say we haven't met why would you try so hard to get my attention in the attic?" I added.

"Because staying away was harder than I thought..."
