The Last Goodbye

Tempted

I stood in front of him not knowing what to say. You could say I was speechless. Not because I wanted him to say that or that I was happy. It was mostly because what he said slightly terrified me. I could tell he was waiting for me to say something and I wanted to. "I can't I'm sorry." I finally said. I backed away from.

"You can't what?" Harry said feeling in the distance between us once more. I didn't understand why he had to always be so close to me when we talked. It made me nervous and when I get nervous I start to loose my breath and that was something he did that Christian couldn't.

"I-" I took a deep breath and exhaled.

"Don't make me start to have feelings for you, because you and I both know this couldn't possible last." Now this time he was the one that was speechless.

I could hear loud footsteps coming our way and I looked over to see Christian coming up the stairs with Beth. She rushed over to me and quickly whispered something . "He kept asking questions and I didn't know how else to distract him." She said.

"I would ask why your up here alone with your best friend's boyfriend, but I don't care. Because I am about to go dance with the most beautiful girl here." Christian kissed my hand.

"I don't really feel like dancing." I told him. He hovered over me and shook his head.

"We have been here how long and we haven't spent more than five minutes together. Secondly I have been practicing my moves all year and I've been dying to show you." He said finishing out his argument as he did the dorkiest dance moves I have ever seen. But it worked it made me laugh.

"I'll go one on condition. You don't do that." I said. "You mean this." Christian put both hands on his hips and started wiggling like a giant worm.

"Exactly!" I laughed. Before I knew what I was doing I had allowed Christian to grab hold of my hand. He guided me down the staircase and we started to leave the abandoned space.
I didn't turn around because I was ashamed of myself and I didn't want to see the look on Harry's face. If I did I would have felt breathless all over again. I needed to realize that he was just a fantasy. And Christian was my reality.

Harry's POV

I watched her leave again with Christian. It didn't break my heart or leave me feeling empty. It pissed me off. To see her with him when clearly I was the she wanted. If only I knew what she was thinking. I desperately wanted to just grab hold of her and she would look at me. Then everything would come back and she would know. But it wasn't that simple and there was only so many more lies I could tell before I cracked.

"It sucks doesn't it?" The redhead asked me.

"Excuse me?" I answered dryly.

"Having to watch them. Those two are like a puzzle piece that don't belong, yet they keep pushing something that just won't work." She whispered in a deep country accent.

"I still don't understand what you're saying." I said beginning to get annoyed with her.

"Darlin don't play coy. It so obvious that you like her. And this isn't her first rodeo. So many boys have gotten their hearts broken trying to court Miss Victoria Chambers. But she just can't seem to let him go and vice versa with Christian." Beth said.
The way she told the story it almost sounded like she had something against her friend. "You sound angry with her."

"Don't get me wrong. I absolutely adore her. Christian an I are the perfect package though. When she told me she liked him and I knew he liked her. I had to tell him how she felt, but I should've told him how I felt instead ."Redhead said as she wiped her face.

I almost felt sorry for her. She quickly wiped away her sign of weakness and fluffed her wave of curly hair. "Because I like you steamy eyes I will help you."

"Steamy eyes?" I repeated.

"It's a compliment take it." Beth said. I shoved my hands inside both of my pockets an walked around to face her. "Help me with what?"

"To get what you came for." Redhead said gently slapping my face. "All we have to do is break them up."

I looked at her with disbelief. I couldn't possible imagine hurting Victoria. "Now before you judge me. Think long and hard about it." Beth spoke.

I knew what my immediate answer would have been. I would have said yes in a heartbeat. And I was almost certain that this girls hair was made up of fire. She asked me one last time. "Do we have a deal?"...
