The Last Goodbye

Don't Say It

I woke up from the instant touch of someone shaking me. I adjusted my eyes and I saw that I was back sitting in the car with my sister and parents.

"Wake up sleepy we're almost home." My mom quietly sang to me from the front of her seat.

"What just happened?" I asked still in a state of confusion.

"Your grandmother put a hint of a secret family recipe in your tea. To try and help you sleep off your nasty cold." She explained while patting the top of my knee.

"Hey looks like it worked! Do you feel any different?" Dad asked. I did feel something. It was tight around my wrist. It was the necklace Harry had given me earlier. He must've wrapped it around me while I was sleeping. "Victoria? Are feeling better ?" My mother asked again. No is what I wanted to say. At that moment in the car I just wanted a few seconds of silence to myself.

I was just brought back from a time I didn't understand. I just witnessed something that seemed so unrealistic and kind of like a dream. The girl I just saw had the same name. Same brown hair, same light blue eyes, and the same necklace that I was holding onto. I leaned my head against the cold and damp window. I hit a button to let my window down a little. My head was spinning, everything was spinning, and I needed air to keep me from passing out.

It was late at night and there were hardly any cars on the street. My dad drove a little faster than the given speed limit allowing the fresh air to touch my face. Everything Harry told me was slowly becoming more transparent and as of right now I was stuck between two realities.

Finally when we arrived home, everyone rushed off into their bedrooms. I was the last one to go to sleep. I just sat up behind the covers on my bed. All I had was the company of my own mind and even that wasn't a stable place to escape to. My digital clocked changed to one in the morning. I kept replaying the dream I had. I was still hearing the voice of a man that was looking for the girl and seeing the look on the tattooed guy's face that was suddenly disinterested in her presence. I fell backwards onto the pile of pillows behind me. I bit down on the bottom of my lip because now I get why Harry's face was turning bright red. Was I the girl in my dream?

I sure as hell looked an awful lot like her and coincidentally had the same name. It's not logically possible to be both. Perhaps I just saw a different version of myself maybe. She couldn't have been me, because she was clearly Harry's Victoria. Whatever this girls feeling for Harry were I could feel them two. I felt what she felt, wanting what she wanted. I covered up my face with both my arms. I am now caught in an ever bigger web of complications than before. Like right now at this moment I couldn't allow myself to go to sleep, without wearing that silver dove necklace.

It was Sunday.

The sun was finally out and I was surprisingly feeling well rested. Whatever my grandmother slipped into my drink worked. I felt a hundred times better today. I was up earlier than usual. I stood at my sink multitasking. I combed my hair while my tooth brush rested in the corner of my cheek. Once I finished my morning routine I was just going to go back in my bed since it was still early. But today that wasn't going to be an option.

My hands and legs started to feel tingly. My mind went blank and any second now I was going to cough up butterflies. It was like a cage door of emotions had been freed open. And again they weren't mine. "Nice pajamas."

I jumped when I heard his voice. I looked at him a bit long lost, I was tongue tied. I still hadn't got use to Harry's unannounced visits. I dropped my eyes to the floor to notice why Harry said that. It wasn't that I was wearing a ridiculous pair. It was because of the lack there was. I tugged at the bottom of my shorts to make them visible. "How long was I out yesterday?" I asked him.

"About a couple of hours then your dad came in to carry you to your car." Harry said. "So nothing happened? I asked again.

"Not a thing expect you had the nicest look on your face while you were sleeping. You just kept smiling, must've been some dream. "He grinned. I started twirling the necklace for comfort and Harry took notice. He was going to say something before I stopped him.

"Don't say it. " I told him.

"I wasn't I'm just surprised. "He smirked. I heard a car door slam and I looked out my window, Beth was here. I walked downstairs and Harry followed.

I clutched onto the railing on the stairs, only because I kept seeing imagery from my dream. Like it was right in front of me again. I could see I was yet again in a room crowded with people. Until, they all just disappeared.I felt a little off balance. Harry grabbed a hold onto both of my shoulders. "Thanks." I told him.

I got to the door before Beth could ring the doorbell and wake up everyone in the house. Beth wasn't paying attention to when I opened the door. She was looking up mindlessly dancing along to whatever music she was listening to. Beth finally looked my way. "Tori!" She squealed, giving me a hug.

"Hey what are you doing over here this early?" I asked as I hugged her back.

"Actually it wasn't planned." She said entering the house and walking pass Harry not seeing him. I closed the door behind her and followed her over to a window seat. Harry stayed close by walking around the room. "Remember that time when you were being haunted by that really hot british ghost ?" Beth asked me as she smacked her gum louder.

"I wasn't being haunted by any hot ghost." I laughed. "So you're saying he wasn't ?" She glared. I didn't say anything because I knew Harry was still in my house.

"See I knew it you're smiling brighter than the man on the moon." She said in her thick southern accent while she poked at my arm. I looked over at Harry who was acting like he couldn't hear notice or hear anything.

"What does he have to do with anything?" I asked her.

" Okay it all started when I got up today for a run." Beth began. "That would explain what you are wearing." I commented. Beth wore long black leggings, a bright blue low cut tank top, and her hair was in a huge messy bun on the top of her head.

"Let me finish." She protested. She blew a large bubble and then popped it back in her mouth. "I decided to take a different route today and I ran pass this new coffee shop. Anyways I saw flyers on the window with the name one direction on them. I read one and Niall Horan from the group is doing some book tour in New Hampshire." Beth finished. She looked at me with her eyes widened. "So...." She dragged out.

"So what?" I asked her.

"Don't you think this is some kind of a sign saying we should go?" She asked enthusiastically.

"No not really and why would we go all the way to New Hampshire ,that's like a two hour drive from here." I told her.

"You need tickets and they were sold out except for in New Hampshire. " Beth explained. "No offense Beth I love you, but your driving is kind of erratic." I said.

"I wouldn't do the driving you would." She smiled. The idea of going didn't sound terrible, until the idea actually settled in my brain. "So I'm just going to go up to him and say "Hi Mr. Horan you don't know me but I think I'm seeing your dead friend." I said.

"No." She groaned. Beth scooter a little closer. "His name was Harry right?" She asked. I nodded my head. "After the masquerade dance I went home and did a little research and found out a something." She said her tone getting suddenly serious. I was a little eager for her to tell me, because whatever it is might actually be something useful.

"So the day he apparently died was in August or September I forgot."

"August 19." I blurted.

"I think so but I'm not sure anyway there was a incident in with a car. And the in the public records it was stated that it didn't look like an accident." Beth solemnly said.

"It was on purpose?" I asked.

"I didn't exactly read that far. All I know is four people were hurt and someone was okay enough to make it to the hospital." She told me. "Did they say who?" Beth answered by shrugging her shoulders.

"That's why we have to got to that signing. You don't really think you and Harry met by coincidence?" Beth finished. A crash, caused on purpose ? I looked at Harry for reassurance so that he could tell me what Elizabeth just said was wrong. He didn't.

"What day is it?" I asked her finally agreeing to go.

"I want to go with you." Harry said.

"That wouldn't be a good idea." I told Harry.

"I didn't even tell you when." Beth said assuming I was talking to her. "The three of us would leave Thursday spend the night then come back Saturday." She said while looking down on her phone.

"Wait! The three of us?" I asked confused by the increased amount of people. "Yeah you, me, and Christian." Beth said.

"And why would Christian want to tag along?" I asked her. "He's still our friend Tori." Beth said with a little more emphasis on the word "OUR".

"So Christian is going." Harry said sounding a little annoyed. "Guess so." I mumbled. Beth again thought I was talking directly to her. " I new you'd be excited. I have a gut feeling this will be great." She said clapping her hands.

"If he is going to be with you then I'm sure as hell going." Harry declared. I could tell by the look in his eyes that he wasn't asking me, he was telling me.

"Well count our lucky stars look who is here!" Beth excitedly whispered. She could now see Harry. "He has to come too! With the four of us together It'll be like a road trip!" She yelled eventually waking up everyone in my house..
