Through The Dark

Surgery

Harry’s POV

I was literally running through the hospital, scaring the daylights out of the lady at the desk as I came out of mo where.

“Mercer, Nichole. Where is she?” I asked, tapping my fingers against the desk.

The nurse took her time getting my room, asking me who I as and what I as here for. I could have been a lot nicer to the woman when I answered but who the fuck is she to ask me those questions when she see’s I’m in a hurry.

“You will have to the waiting room, she’s still in surgery.” The nurse said, taking a sucker out of her mouth and wave it in the direction of the waiting room.

“Still? Didn’t she go into surgery hours ago?” I asked, confused. Surgery doesn’t take that long, does it?

“You will have to ask the doctor those questions, sir.” She said, putting the sucker back in her mouth before taking out her phone, flipping through it.

I walked away with Niall right behind me, knowing not to say anything. I got to waiting room when I was attacked. A flash of black and yellow happened before I was nearly tackled to the ground.

“Oh my gosh, Harry. I’m so sorry.” Ashely cried, burying her face into my shirt as she squeezed me. I hugged her back quickly then let go, not wanting to give Niall the wrong impression.

“Daddy.” I heard an angel say, snapping my attention away from the girl in front of me to the girl behind her.

Darcy stood beside a chair that Dylan was sitting in. Darcy’s hair was starting to get darker, going from a legit blonde to a real light brown color. Her little blonde curls were to her shoulder now and she was a couple of inches bigger than the last time I’ve seen her. Ashley moved out of my way as I pushed forward, watching in amazement as Darcy wobbled forward, holding her arms above her head as she looked up at me.

I picked her up and smiled at her, holding her tight. I hugged her, stroking her bronze curls as I choked back a cry. I have to be strong, for Nichole. I sat down beside Dylan, placing Darcy on my knee has I gave him some attention to.

Dylan was bigger than Darcy, making my heart cry out. I’ve missed my kids growing while I was away on tour. His dark hair that once curled was straight now, board straight actually. Mine did the same thing when I was his age. He grinned up at me, showing me his teeth. I smiled back at him, blinking away the tears.

“Ashley.” A female said, coming into the room. Ashley walked quickly to the woman's side, hugging her tightly.

“Do we know how she is doing? Is she out of surgery?” The woman asked frantically, gripping Ashley’s arm.

“No, I don’t know. She’s been in surgery for hours. I think they had to go into a second surgery is what I heard. A few nurses were talking about it.” Ashley admitted, hugging the woman again as she started to cry. Who is she?

The lady caught my stare, her face going blank as she let go of Ashley and made her way towards me.

“Gan-ma!” Dylan said excitedly, squirming down from his seat to run to the woman. Gan-ma? Grandma?

“Hey, baby. Look at you getting all big. You must be Harry. We’ve only met once of twice before, I know your mum though.” She says, holding out her hand. I shook it, watching her sit down. She looks so familiar.

“I’m Nichole’s mom, in case you don’t remember me.” She said, unclogging my memory.

“Oh the one that kicked her out when she told you she was pregnant? The one that she cried for hours over because you abandoned her. That one?” I said harshly. Her eyes hardened and her jaw set as she leaned forward, anger obvious in her eyes.

“Do you really wanna compare what I’ve done to her to what you’ve done to her. I think I’ll win.” She said slowly, emphasizing each word as they set in. She knows.

“I didn’t think so.” She said after I remained quiet, leaning back and bouncing Dylan on her knee.

We all waited for another forty five minutes before a doctor came in, calling for Nichole’s family. We crowded around him in seconds, asking questions. He held up his hands, stopping us. I took another look over of him and my heart clenched. His shirt was covered in blood and the man looked tired.

“I need the people she lives with. Two only.” He said, limiting the amount of people. Me and Ashley stayed put while Niall took Darcy and sat down beside Nichole’s mom.

“Nichole is out of surgery. She is okay now, but I must tell you that her heart stopped once but luckily we were able to revive her. She hit her head pretty hard on the glass but nothing real bad happened, just a little concussion. When she got into that wreck, something struck a vital organ and caused some internal bleeding. She’s lucky that we were able to find the spot and stop the bleeding in time. She also broke one rib and fractured two in the process. We are going to have to enforce a medical induced coma for a few days so she can heal without any stress or pain. Once I think she’s ready to wake up, we will bring her out of it and she should be fine.” The doctor said, fiddling with his fingers.

“Doc, what about the baby. Is the baby okay?” I asked, my heart dropping when his face saddened.

“I’m sorry for your loss. She didn’t make it.” The doctor said, looking down at his feet.

“She?” I asked, stopping him as he went to turn around.

“Yeah, she. The baby was a girl.”
