Through The Dark

Diana

The room I was in was pitch black, leaving me to just trust my feet has I walked forward into the darkness. My heart was beating fast in my chest, thumping in my ears. I’m terrified. I can’t see anything and where ever I was at had a lack of cold air, making my bangs stick to my face from me sweating so bad.

“Hello?” I call out, flinching as my voice echoed in the apparently rather large space.

I waved my arms out in front of me to keep me from running slap into a wall. After a few minutes they brushed against wood, making me sigh in relief. If there’s a wall, there has to be a door. I followed the wall for about ten minutes before my hand grasped a doorknob.

I twisted it slowly and eased it open, squinting as light filtered through. I walked further into the room, looking around. It was a children's play room. Well, to be more specific, a little girls play room. Light blues and purples decorated the room. The floors were hardwood and a little wooden rocking pony sat in a corner. Dolls decorated the floor, the little girl having so many I lost count.

“Hi, mommy.” A high voice said, startling me. I turned to my left to spot a little girl staring at me. She looked about five or six, her tiny arms clinging to a dolly with red hair.

“Me?” I asked, pointing to my chest.

This little girl obviously wasn’t Darcy but the facial features were really similar. Maybe this is what she looks like when she gets older. She had chocolate colors ringlets and big brown eyes, her small pink lips heart shaped. She was short but then again all kids her age are short. She nodded her head at me, her little curls bouncing.

“Are you Darcy?” I asked, kneeling down to her height.

She shook her little head again and walked closer. Instead of seeing Darcy in her, I saw quite a bit of Harry. She was a beautiful little girl. I wonder if this is some sort of messed up dream where Harry accidentally get’s Kendall pregnant and then insists that I become the step mom. Ugh, I just want to shoot myself in the face now.

“No, I’m Diana.” She said, giving me a shy smile that made my heart swell. Oh, she’s just to cute for her own good.

“Honey, I only have one daughter and her name is Darcy.” I find myself saying, smiling back at her.

“I’m your daughter, you just don’t know it yet. I was in here.” She said, pointing down to my tummy.

My hand automatically rubbed over my stomach, everything coming back to me. I’m the one pregnant. I got into a wreck and I can’t really remember anything after that.

“You’re really pretty, mommy.” Diana said suddenly, reaching out to touch my dark hair.

“Aw, but you’re prettier.” I said, cupping her face with one hand, rubbing my thumb over her tiny cheek.

“What is daddy like?” She asked, tilting her head to the side as she watched me.

“Oh, he’s amazing. Like nothing I’ve ever seen before. You look a lot like him. You also have a brother and a sister, they are twins. Dylan and Darcy.” I say honestly, smiling at the girl as I caress her curls. Such a mess and just like her father.

“I wish I could meet them. Especially daddy.” She says, her bottom lip sticking out and a few tears appearing in her eyes.

“Aw, honey. You will. Just a few more months and you’ll get tired of seeing him.” I say, taking the child into my arms for a hug. She wrapped her tiny arms around my neck, burying her face into my neck.

“No, I won’t. They already told me I won’t.” The little girl cried, sniffling. I froze for a second before pulling back, forcing her to look at me.

“Who has already told you what?” I asked, searching her sweet face.

“The people on the roof. They told me I will never get to meet my daddy.” She said, wiping at her face with the back of her hand as she sniffled.

“People on the roof? Honey, who are they?” I asked frantically, looking up.

The ceiling had different pictures. Some were people with wings and others half naked and on clouds. Not paintings I’d want my little girl to have in her room as decorations.

“They told me that I would get to see you but then you will have to leave me.” The tiny girl said, her voice breaking as she cried harder. My heart broke at the sight, making my own eyes get watery.

“What do you mean?” I asked her, pulling her hands away from her face so I could see her.

“You got hurt, mommy, and so did I. When I got here they told me that this was my home now. I can’t go back with you when you leave. I’m going to miss you, mommy.” Diana explained, tears continuously flowing down her face, making her eyes red and cheeks puffy.

“I’m going to miss you, too.” I say hugging her again before pulling her back, asking my last question.

“Diana, where are we?” I asked, dreading the answer.

“Heaven, mommy. I’m an angel now.”

As soon as the words left her mouth, pain ripped through my upper half, feeling like I’ve been electrocuted. Diana screamed as I was torn away from her and drug back through the door into the sticky hot darkness, the door slamming shut. The last thing I saw was Diana’s beautiful face crying as she shouted my name. Mommy.
