Secrets

Chapter Two

I could have sworn nothing had ever felt better than the steaming water running over my body. I closed my eyes, tilting my head back under the streaming water, enjoying the first real shower I've had in weeks. It felt so good to scrub my body with body wash instead of a small bar of soap, to lather my hair in my favourite smelling Herbal Essence shampoo. After what felt like hours standing under the running warmth, I finally shut off the water, stepping out of the shower, wrapping my towel around my body.

"Why aren't you dressed?" Sophie asked as I walked into the kitchen, towel still clinging around my body.

"I just got out of the shower."

"But the concert..."

"Isn't for another six hours." I said cutting her off.

She didn't seem to care as she was already in her concert attire, of demin shorts and a white shirt sporting the number one and letter 'D' on the front. She was in love with this band, and had been waiting for this concert for months. She was worried for awhile while I was in hospital, in fear that I wouldn't get out in time to take her. But I had promised her that I would, and I couldn't break my promise, not to her. I laughed as a pout made it's way onto her face.

"I promise you we'll leave soon. But it doesn't matter how early we get there, our seats are still at the front. Even if we're the last ones in there."

"Okay." She said, huffing.

"We'll leave once I'm ready, okay?" I said taking her into a hug, kissing the top of her head, "Now where's the Easy Mac? Mum said she stocked up just for me."

"Um, in the back of the pantry I think." She said opening it, bringing out the Easy Mac box.

I opened a packet, emptying it into a bowel and adding water, as intructed on the packet, popping it into the microwave. While that cooked, I grabbed the apple juice from the fridge, filling a glass. I stood at the bench, sipping the juice, contemplating exactly what I was going to wear. It was funny, I hardly even cared about this concert but I was still concered about what I was going to wear to it. Although, it wasn't so much for fashion purposes as it was for others. I grabbed the bowl out of the microwave once it was done, and made my way upstairs.

I had already thrown on a black pair of skinny jeans when I was staring at the five sweaters sitting on my bed. It really shouldn't be this hard, but it was. I narrowed it down to two options, either a white sweater with black stripes or a creamy coloured one, with black leather patches on the elbows. I decided I was already black enough with my jeans and black Docs, so I threw on the creamy coloured one with the patches. I looked in the mirror, to check that I looked okay. My wavy, upper-chest length hair was so bright from dying it the night before, that it looked like fire tendrals licking around my head. It made my blue eyes look like shining crystals, my skin pale and the small cluster of brown freckles on my cheeks even darker in colour. I never really had a problem with my appearance, I never found my self 'ugly' just not necessarily as beautiful as other people had led on. I had isolated myself throughout school, so nobody ever really complimented me, but I occasiaonlly had strangers in public approach me, and that never failed to make me uncomfortable.

"You ready to go, Soph?" I said grabbing my keys off the counter.

"Yeah!" She answered, full of excitement.

"Are you sure you're okay to drive Carson?"

"Yeah, it's not big deal."

"I can take you and pick you up, if you really want."

"Mum, it's fine, okay." I said kissing her cheek. She really worried a little too much about me.

"Let's go then."

"Why are you wearing a sweater?" Soph asked me.

"Soph..."

"What?" She replied in confusion to our mothers warning tone, "I just wanna know, won't you get hot?"

"No, I think I'll be just fine. Now get your little butt into the car."

"Goodbye girls, have fun. And call me if anything happens, okay?"

"Yes, mum, we'll be fine. I'll take care of her." Although I knew it wasn't Sophie she was worried about.

. . .

"There's so many people here." Soph said, almost in disapointment.

"I told you that no matter how early we got here, there was still going to be lots of girls."

"Yeah, I know."

"Here, hold my hand, and stay by my side, okay? Don't go wandering off, hold onto my jumper if you have to."

"Okay." She replied, placing her small hand in mine.

"Mum gave me some money, do you want to go get something from the merch table?"

"Yes!" She squealed, running towards the back of the long line at the merch stand.

This was the first non-rock concert I had been to, and it was all kinds of insane. There were groups of girls running around screaming everywhere. Some where singing some of the bands songs, others running around meeting their friends. The merch line was filled with excited chatter about what they where going to buy, what songs they hoped the show would consist of, and how much they loved a guy called Harry's curls, or another guy called Louis' thrusts. That one weirded me out, thinking of what kind of concert this would turn out to be. One thing in particular that surprised me where the ages of the girls. Sophie seemed to be one of only few younger girls, the rest seemed to be in their late teens, around my age.

After waiting in line for well over half an hour, we made our way into the building, even more heavily packed than outside, sitting down letting Soph scramble through her recent purchases. Although she already owned a t-shirt, she bought another, a poster, wristband and a little booklet that held pictures of the members of the group.

"Carson, I'm thirsty."

"Didn't you bring a bottle of water with you?" She just shook her head. I scanned the foyer to find somewhere selling drinks that didn't occupy a large line when my eye came across a vending machine at the far end of the building, next to a set of stairs, "Come on then." I said taking her hand.

"Where do those stairs go?" Soph asked as we waited behind the two people ahead of us.

"I don't know." I replied.

"Do you think I'll get to meet them?"

"I highly doubt it Soph."

"What if they came out here, right now?"

"That's not going to happen. Not unless they wanted to be swarmed and die."

"I really want to meet them though."

"I know you do, but see all these other girls here? They do too. You might get to meet them one day, but it won't be tonight, okay?"

"Mmmkay." She mumbled in response.

"Now what do you want, just some water?" She just nodded her head.

I was pushing the golden coins into the slots on the vending machine when I felt a tap on my shoulder and the person behind me saying 'excuse me'. I swung around, to them pointing behind me.

"Does she belong to you?"

"Hmm?" I said turning around just in time to catch the blur of blonde bounding down the stairs, "Omg, Soph! Sophie come back here!" I yelled after her, grabbing the bottle of water from the machine, and making my way after her.

She was already down a flight of stairs, as I bounded down two at a time to catch up with her. I had no idea where these stairs went, so I had to catch her. For all I knew, they lead to a dark alley out back. She finally stopped when the set of stairs ended and came to a t-section hallway. I stopped behind her, bending over, trying to catch my breath.

"What the hell is wrong with you?"

"Sorry, I just wanted to know where the stairs went."

"What did I say, do not leave my side, didn't I? I don't care if these steps lead to narnia, you do not go running off like that, okay? Now let's go."

"Hey!" A tall, well built, man yelled approaching us, "You can't be down here."

"I know, I'm so sorry. My little sister just ran off, don't worry, we're going back up now. C'mon Sophie." I said tugging on her shirt, but she seemed frozen in place.

"What's going on Paul?" Said a tall teenage boy, with short brown hair, and large brown eyes wrapping his arm around the large man in an innocent british tone.

"Li-Li-Liam." Sophie managed to stutter out.

"What?" I asked confused.

"Well hello there beauitful, are you a fan?" Asked the boy. She barely managed to nod her head, "Well I'm Liam, what's your name?" Nothing came out.

"It's Sophie." I said for her.

"Well Sophie, it's good to meet you. And you are?" He said turning to me, hand held infront of me.

"Carson." I said shaking his large, strong hand.

"Nice to meet you too." He smiled.

"What's the hold up?" Called out another british accent. I looked up to see four more teeange boys walking our way. Sophie let out a small squeal through her lips.

"Just meeting with some fans." Liam replied, "Guys, this is Sophie and Carson." He said gesturing to us, "And this is Harry, Louis, Zayn and Niall."

Once I saw Harry, the girls conversation in the merch line made sense. And I couldn't help but agree with them, the bundle of curls that surrounded his face were lucious. His green eyes lits up as he smiled a brilliant smile, creating two craters in his cheeks. Louis had short length, styled light brown hair, and blue eyes slightly more grey in shade than mine or Sophie's. Zayn, instead, had beautiful brown eyes surrounded by long lashes and black hair styled into a quiff atop his head. Lastly my eyes made their way to Niall, and that's when I froze.

He was beautiful, for lack of a better word. His soft, blonde hair seemed perfectly disheveled, it sat beautifully in disarray as if he didn't really try, but it just worked for him anyway. His lips crept up into a large, braced smile that gleamed under the lights. His cool blue orbs bore into mine, almost as bright as my own, sparkling as he blinked, continuing to smile.
"Nice to meet you." He said, in a strong Irish twang that seemed to cause a riot of butterflies to rise in my stomach. I couldn't help but feel flustered in his presence, and really wanted to fan my face to cool my self down, but refrained from doing so to avoid embarrassment.

"I'm sorry girls, but you have to leave." Paul said.

"Oh come on Paul, we only just met." Louis said.

"Yeah, let them hang around for awhile." Niall added, returning his smile to me. Paul just sighed in defeat before making his way off.

"Of course that's only if you'd like too." Liam chimed in.

"Can we Carson, can we?" Soph pleaded, pulling on my arm.

"What exactly does 'hang around' mean?"

"Just chilling back stage with us before the show I guess." Liam replied.

"Come on Carson, pleeeease."

"Yeah, okay, okay. I guess we can." I finally gave in.

Niall smiled at me even wider, causing an even larger flock of butterflies throughout my stomach. I had no idea what I was doing, I didn't even care about this band, but Sophie did, so I couldn't have said no otherwise she would have been heartbroken. We followed the boys down the corridor, Niall walking close beside me, smiling again as my eyes crept up to look at him through the corner of my eye. No, I didn't care so much about their music, but I wouldn't mind getting to know them. Especially if they were hot and Irish.
