They Don't Know About Us

Chapter 5

*Harry’s P.O.V*
“Crazy to believe we’re almost done with this tour isn’t it?” Niall asked taking a seat beside me.
“Yeah, next week we’ll be in LA.” Louis added. We were on the tour bus headed to the next venue.
Zayn nodded, “We’re opening the TCA’s.” When we learned of that we were all surprised. Things were still happening fast.
Liam sighed, “We’ll be back home by next Sunday.” That was probably the thing all five of us were most excited about.
Niall shook his blond head. “Until the premiere and VMA’s, then we’re back here in the States.”
“I forgot about that.” Zayn groaned leaning back in his seat on the sofa.
Louis shrugged, “At least management is letting us have guests.” He reminded us all.
“They are?” I asked looking to the Doncaster lad.
Liam nodded, “They told us yesterday Hazza. Weren’t you paying attention?” I shrugged.
“Are you thinking of bringing someone?” Niall asked as he stood. He was probably going to look for something to eat. We had been busy all day. Zayn looked at me knowingly, but I shook my head.
“Nah, I don’t think I will.” I answered discretely pulling out my mobile. The only person I could think of was Justice, but I pushed that thought away. She probably wouldn’t be interested. She wasn’t like other people when it came to the celebrity stuff. Justice didn’t care that I was famous.
We talked for hours and it was clear she was just being herself. We got on really well. I fancied her. It seemed as though she fancied me. Although neither one of us had brought that up. It had been a month since the Nashville concert and I had talked to her every day since. Maybe she would want to come to LA for a week.

I waited until two days later when Justice and I were talking over Skype. It was our second time trying out the video call. Of course the first time was plagued with interruptions on both ends. Her friends continuously bothered her and the lads continuously annoyed me. Eventually we ended the conversation and vowed to try again later. It was later. We’d been chatting for a little over an hour. It was already getting late so I decided to take the jump. Now or never as they say.
“Did you ever come up with plans for your birthday?” I asked her. I had learned that her birthday was on the tenth of August when she began her daily countdown on Instagram. She made sure to announce the days left to anyone who would listen.
Justice shook her head with a small frown. “No, everyone has to work. My friends and family sucks.” She groaned clearly disappointed by everyone's lack of excitement for her day.
I chuckled, “I have an idea.” Her left eyebrow raised in curiosity as she nodded for me to continue. “Come to LA.” I blurted.
“What?” Her facial expression was one of surprise.
“I’m going to be in LA for a week and I would be happy to help you celebrate your birthday.” Yes Harry, because you don't sound like a weirdo at all.
She shook her head. “I can’t.” She protested. I should have known this would be difficult.
“You won’t have to worry about anything.” I assured her.
“Thanks Harry, but I really shouldn’t-”
I cut off her decline by leaning closer to the camera and pouting. “Please come to LA with me.” I spoke in a softer voice. “Zayn misses you.” I added jokingly.
She titled her head, “Zayn misses me?” She stressed. I nodded. Justice sighed. “Okay, I’ll fly halfway across the country to celebrate my birthday with a guy I’ve only known for a month.”
I chuckled at her exasperated acceptance. “It’s make more sense than it sounds.” She gave me a disbelieving look, but didn’t change her mind.

*Justice’s P.O.V*
“Why do you need my suitcase again?” My sixteen years old, light skinned, blunt attitude sister asked for the millionth time. I had taken the forty minute drive home to Decatur for the day.
“To pack my clothes for my trip to LA.” I answered looking through her closet to see if there was anything I wanted to borrow. She had a cute passel crop top that I had bought her for her birthday.
Aerial nodded her brunette head. “Why can’t you just use your suitcase?”
“I let Quez use it for his trip with the church.” I reminded her. Our younger brother was gone to Kansas with his youth group. As bad as it sounds we were all happy to have him gone. He was the most annoying member of the family.
“Oh yeah, well then you should have used Mom’s suitcase.” Aerial continued.
I groaned sticking my head out of the small walk-in closet to look at her. “If I ask Mom for her suitcase she’ll want to know why, then I’ll have to tell her why and she will start asking questions. I do not need her asking questions.” It felt like these words had left my mouth several times today.
Aerial folded her arms in the white space camp tee she wore. “You are grown and living on your own. She cannot ask you questions you don’t want to answer.”
“She pays for my tuition.” I countered shortly.
“Okay, maybe she can.” Aerial decided standing from her queen sized bed. “I’m going downstairs. Ask before you take anything.” She ordered. I nodded. My tickets to LA had arrived two days ago. My flight was scheduled to leave Friday. It was now Wednesday and I hadn’t packed yet. Katie was overly excited when I told her about the trip. She insisted that Harry and I were a couple because friends don’t invite friends on trips and not expect them to pay for something. As if she hadn’t invited me to Orlando in July when her family went after I insisted that I couldn’t afford it at that time.
After searching through Aerial and my mom’s clothes for two hours, I decided I had gotten all that I could get. I went down the carpeted stairs to find my sister and baby brother watching TV in the living room. I plopped on the loveseat across from them turning my attention to the music videos playing on the screen.
“I’m home.” My mom’s voice was heard announcing as she entered the house. “Jay what are you doing here?” She asked stopping in the living room.
“Uh…” I fumbled for an explanation.
“Mom what are you cooking tonight?” Caleb cut in. He thought about food twenty-four seven. There wasn’t a too much limit with him. My mom rolled her eyes walking out. Caleb jumped off the couch following her. “I’m serious. I’m hungry.” He whined. I let out a breath that I hadn’t known I was holding. Aerial looked at me with a smirk on her red lips.
“Shut up.” I snapped turning my attention back to the TV. She laughed.

The car horn sounded as a string of profanities flew from my small friend Shardai’s lips. Someone remind me again why I let her drive me to the airport. Katie sat in the front seat cringing as much as I did while sitting in the back. My seatbelt was securely buckled, which said something because I never wore those things if I wasn’t a front passenger or driver.
“This was a bad idea.” I muttered.
“I told you.” Katie snapped.
I shook my head, “No, I mean the whole thing. Why am I going to LA?”
“Because your boo thang wants you to.” Shardai reminded me looking in the rearview mirror.
Katie nodded, “In other words, because Harry asked you to and you’re too in love with him to say no.”
I folded my arms. “I’m not in love.” Yet that is. But it could happen someday. “I’ve hardly known him a month. Nice guy or not this is a bad idea.”
“Girl you’re crazy.” Shardai exclaimed. “If a guy liked me enough to fly out to California I would go in a heartbeat.”
“She’s going.” Katie decided rolling her eyes and folding her arms as well.
I leaned forward. “Excuse you?” I asked with the slightest of attitudes.
“I mean if you want to go then you’re going.” She quickly retracted her words. I smirked. “You don’t scare me.” Katie added. My brown eyes rolled.
“Do you guys really think I should be doing this?” I asked feeling some type of way. They both nodded.
“I am not turning this car around.” Shardai added nearly swerving into the other lane. A small yell sounded from me as Katie reached over to grab the steering wheel. “My bad.” The petite girl apologized in a childlike voice.
My hand went to my forehead. “Just get me out of here.” I mumbled saying a silent prayer. We needed all of the protection we could get at this point.

I love how you put a black female as the female heroine. So different and I've always hoped someone would come up with something like this.
