They Don't Know About Us

Chapter 4

*Harry’s P.O.V*
I looked at my mobile in confusion. I should call her. What if she’s busy? You won’t know unless you call her. I don’t want to be a bother.
“Oh just call her already!” Louis groaned as he passed by me on the tour bus. I ignored him locking my mobile once again and shoving it in my pocket. All day I had wondered about calling Justice. It had gotten to point where Zayn refused to answer my questions. Liam gave me deadly looks and Niall ran off with the emos. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to talk to her. In fact that was the problem. I wanted to talk to her entirely too much. I was nervous.
To clear my mind I decided to get on Twitter. It was always guaranteed for a laugh and I hadn’t tweeted in a few days. The fans kept my mentions busy, but there was one that caught my eye.
@JayQuin94: Home sweet home. My @Harry_Styles cutout missed me.
There was a picture attached of a life sized cut out of me with a sign taped to it that read welcome home. It was comical. I chuckled favoring the tweet. Then an idea struck me. I may be too nervous to call her, but there was always SMS.
Me: Hello :)
Justice: Hi! I literally just tweeted you.
Me: Yeah I saw it. You have a cut out of me?
Justice: It was a Christmas gift from Sofia since she couldn’t get me the real thing.
Justice: Ignore that last part.
Me: It’s fine babe.
Justice: No it’s embarrassing. What’s up?
Me: Oh just catching a few spare minutes on the bus. How is your day going?
Justice: It’s going okay seeing as how I just got home and my dog didn’t destroy the place. How’s your day?
Think Harry think. I had two options here. I could say something cliché and have her think that I’m the cheesiest lad on the planet or I could give a generic answer. It was a pretty big decision to make.
Me: A lot better now that I’m talking to you.
Justice: Aww that’s so sweet. :)
A successful smile coated my lips. She didn’t make fun of my cheesy line. It seemed as though she actually appreciated it. I kept smiling as I typed out my reply. This was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

*Justice’s P.O.V*
A smile spread from ear-to-ear as I read the last message Harry sent me. Our conversation was on pause because he had to go rehearse and get ready for the night’s show. He was a pretty good conversationalist. We never ran out of things to talk about.
“Who has you smiling like a clown?” Katie asked. “Oh my gosh are you texting Harry?” I nodded still smiling idiotically. She gasped, “That’s so cute! I knew you two would end up together.”
“Whoa there calm your tits.” My smile disappeared as I looked at my roommate with raised eyebrows. “We’ve known each other all of three days. There is not a relationship between us.”
Katie pouted, “But you’re so perfect for each other.” I rolled my eyes standing to walk out of our small carpeted living room. “Fine! But when you end up engaged don’t say I didn’t tell you so!” She yelled after me.
“We’re not even dating!” I countered before walking into my bedroom. My Harry Styles cut out was in the far corner smiling as creepily as ever. A long purple framed mirror hung on my closet door. The full sized bed sat in the center of the far wall. My blinds were open and my black curtain pulled to the side. I looked at the time on my cell phone and sighed heavily. I had to be at work in thirty minutes. Quickly I changed clothes getting ready for my job at the chain clothing store. Majority of my hair was held back by a black headband, but my bang was free. I rubbed Chap Stick on my lips smiling at my reflection as usual and walking out of the room. Katie was in the kitchen staring hopelessly into our empty refrigerator.
“We need food.” She groaned closing the door.
“Go get some.” I suggested as I lifted my purse off of the couch and pulled it across my body. Katie shrugged walking to her room. I grabbed the key ring off the hook by the door and walked out of the second floor apartment. I walked down the metal stairs directly to my blue 2003 Lincoln LS. The drive from our apartment to TJ Maxx took about ten minutes when minimum traffic. My manager, Ms. Mayfield, could be a stickler. Luckily I had half a tank of gas and plenty of space to gun it. Life would be so much easier when I got that law degree. Not.
~~*~~
Habitually I checked my cell phone every five minutes while at work. I was subconsciously hoping for a text message from Harry. However the periodic checking seemed to only make my shift drag out longer, so I eventually gave up and tried to find something that would keep me busy. Organizing the different racks proved to be time consuming. Before I knew it nine o’clock had arrived and my shift was over for the day. I said goodbye to my coworkers and walked outside into the night. Pulling my cell phone from my pocket, I headed towards my car ready to get home. My feet momentarily paused as I checked my text message from three hours ago.
Harry: I got really busy. Would it be alright if I call you after the show?
A smile tugged at my lips as I began to walk once more. It was already after nine here and I had no idea what city they were in. What if he thinks my lack of response is a no? I worried as I unlocked my car doors. I wanted to reply right then, but if he called while I was driving it would be disastrous. Stopping at a red light I took a deep breath to clear my head. I was really overthinking this. All I had to do was wait until I got home to respond and explain that I was busy with work. It was simple so that’s exactly what I did.
Justice: Sorry I was working, but you don’t have to ask to call me lol.
“You are literally mouthing every word that you type.” Katie commented managing to startle me as she sat on the couch.
“I thought you were at work.” I exclaimed still alert.
She shrugged, “I got off early. I sent you a message.”
I looked down at my phone embarrassed. “I forgot to read it.” I admitted much calmer.
Katie feigned hurt. “I bet you read Harry’s message.” She accused. When I didn’t respond she gasped. “You did! Since when is he more important than me?” As she continued being dramatic my phone rang. I smiled when I saw the name flashing across my screen. Standing to leave the room I accepted the call. “Go talk to your British crush. Your best friend will be okay. It’s not like I’m heartbroken!” The crazy red head shouted after me.
“Hello?” I kicked my bedroom close effectively cutting off the sound of her voice.
The captivation accented deep voice responded. “Hi.” I smiled like an idiot. “Did I catch you at a bad time?”
“Uh, no, now’s a good time.” Thus began the nerves all over again.
“Good. I’d hate to be an inconvenience.”
“You an inconvenience? Never.” We both laughed as I laid back on my bed. Sounds from the TV lowly drifted to me which meant Katie must have been watching it. “So how was the show?”
“Loud,” Harry responded dragging the word out for emphasis.
I sniggered, “Isn’t it always loud?”
“Yeah you’re right. It is.” He agreed. I could picture his head nodding along. Those subtle curls moving ever so slightly. Oh Justice you’ve got it bad.
“I’ve always wondered how the heck performers can even think with all of that noise. At the Ed show he would basically tell us to shut-up for the softer songs. It was probably the only reason I didn’t have a headache the next day.” I blubbered. My brain tended to delete its filter whenever I was nervous.
“Ed as in Ed Sheeran?”
“Yeah. Katie, my sister, and I went to see him in Nashville in January.”
“Oh, did you like it?”
“Loved it. I can’t wait to see him again.” The smiled lingered on my lips. “But you’ve probably seen him perform hundreds of times. He is one of your best mates.”
“Oh loads. Niall calls it our date time. Always fun.” He paused as if listening to my laughter. “What other concerts have you been to?”
I thought over my answer. “Just Ed and Aaron Carter. Oh and you guys, but that’s because this really nice guy gave me tickets twice.”
“Remind me to thank him.”
“Yeah you should.” I looked around my room searching for a new topic. “Favorite movie, go!”
Harry chuckled, “I’m sure you already know the answer.”
“I actually don’t…” I trailed off.
“Promise not to make fun.”
I held up my hand although he couldn’t see it. “I promise.”
He sighed. “The Notebook.”
I gasped. “Seriously?”
“You’re going to make fun, aren’t you?”
“No! I love that movie. Not as much as I love the Titanic, but I’ve seen them both at least one hundred times.” The sound of his laughter made me bite my lips as I fought my smile.
“So you’re a romantic movie lover?” Harry asked as if he was genuinely curious.
“Mmm, technically not. I mean everyone loves a good romance movie, but I’ll take superhero saving the world any day.”
“Who’s your favorite hero? I bet it’s Thor. Every girl says Thor or Superman.”
A giggle escaped my lips. “Iron Man.”
“He’s my favorite too! We seem to have some things in common.”
“The best things start that way.” My shoulders shrugged.
Our conversation went on like that for hours. He would ask me questions and I would ask him. We talked about nearly everything. At one point I had to put the call on speaker so I could change into my pajamas. Of course Harry was too busy adamantly defending his favorite book to even notice the distant sound of my voice. We talked and talked losing track of time. I’m not sure who was the first to yawn, but eventually the sound became repetitive.
“Are you sleepy?” Harry asked after I yawned for what had to be the fiftieth time in twenty minutes.
“Are you?” I countered not wanting to admit that my eyelids felt like my backpack on a Monday morning.
“I asked you first.”
“I asked you second.” A silence fell being interrupted by Harry yawning. “Aha! You are sleepy.”
He chuckled, “I have no idea what you’re talking about. But you sound like you fighting your sleep. We should probably end this call now.” I frowned knowing he was right. “I’ll talk to you later, yeah?”
“Yeah.” I agreed. “Night night.”
“Good night.” We ended the call. I yawned once again rolling over to place my iPhone on the charger. Dragging myself out of my comfortable bed I walked to my wall and flicked down the light switch. There wasn’t any light streaming under my door from the hallway so Katie must have gone to bed already. With a content sigh I climbed under my black and white zebra print duvet and rested my head on the hot pink pillow. That night my dreams were flooded with images of Harry Styles.

I love how you put a black female as the female heroine. So different and I've always hoped someone would come up with something like this.
