Perfect To Me

Even If The Sky Is Falling Down

It’d been two weeks since Harry and I broke up and I haven’t heard a word from him since. I’d stalked his twitter, of course, and noticed that he seemed happy. Which pissed me off and made me even more depressed. I had constantly asked Niall, how Harry was, to the point where I don’t even have to ask anymore, Niall just tells me as soon as he walks through the door. I haven’t left my apartment all that much, just to go to work and go to the doctor to check up on the baby, other than that I’m in my room, cuddled up with my dog and crying my eyes out. I felt bad because Charlotte would come home on her breaks from school or work to cook for me and make sure I ate and to just keep my company, and Niall was spending more nights here than he was at his own home.

Tomorrow is my 21st birthday and as of right now I didn’t have any plans especially because Charlotte has to work and the boys have to go to Scotland for some press, so none of my friends would be with me. Good news, my dad is flying in to spend a couple of days with me; I’m really looking forward to seeing him.

I was laying in my bed fiddling with some new game I downloaded on my phone when I heard the door to my apartment open, I scrunched my eyebrows together as I tried to think of who was here because Niall arrived hours ago. Just when I was about to crawl out of bed to see the guest, Zayn, Louis and Liam came barging in my room and jumped on top of me, successfully making a doggy pile.

“WE LOVE YOU!! HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY!” All three of them screamed simultaneously, and I couldn’t help but smile at them. They all rolled off of me and laid next to me where we all were squished together on my queen sized bed.

“I love you guys,” I told them as I rested my head on Zayn’s shoulder since he was lying down next to me. We sat in silence for a few minutes before I felt a few things being placed on my stomach. “What are these?” I asked as I pointed to the gift boxes resting on top of me.

“Your birthday gifts, silly,” Louis spoke for everyone. “Now open them.”

“You guys didn’t have to do that,” I told them as I softly ripped the wrapping paper on the biggest box. I pulled the card out and read that it was from Liam. It was a really sweet card about friendship and I hugged him before pulled out a vintage Polaroid camera and some film.

“Liam! How’d you know I’ve been looking for this kind of camera?!” I exclaimed as I quickly placed the film in it and turning to snap a picture of him smiling at me.

“It’s the only thing you ever talk about these days, love. I figured I’d help you get a jump start on taking the photos so you can put them on your wall like you said. Danielle helped me find it online,” he said, a little sad. He and Danielle recently broke up too, so we were both going through heartache together. I placed a kiss on his cheek and pulled him in for a hug.

“Thank you so much.” I opened the next box and sitting inside of the very empty box was a piece of paper that said ‘next tattoo is on me, bird.” I instantly knew it was from Zayn and I pulled him in for a tight hug.

“Thanks tattoo buddy,” I smiled at him and he shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly.

“Lou, should I be scared to open yours?” I asked him and he shook his head while chuckling. I pulled the lid off of Louis’ and I immediately started laughing once I read the font on a shirt he bought me, ‘you’ve cat to be kitten me, right meow.’ “Oh Lou, only you would get me something like this!” I said to him as I placed a kiss on his cheek.

“That’s not all, love. Keep looking.” I pulled another shirt out, a long sleeved one, that said ‘Cattitude, deal with it,’ and again laughed at the words and another shirt that said ‘Stanford Drop out’.

“Way to be real literal, Louis,” I said to him with amusement in my voice. I finished emptying his box, he also got me a new sweatshirt with a tribal print frocket as well as some new bracelets, which he claimed to be our ‘friendship bracelets’ and held up his wrist to show me his matching ones. We all laid in my bed for a bit longer until Niall came in and frowned because there was no room for him.

“Move over,” Niall whined to Louis who simply shook his head at the Irish blonde. “I’ll lay on you.”

“Go for it, mate, there is a bit of a draft in here,” Louis joked, but Niall took him completely serious and laid on top of him.

“Here ya go, Abs,” Niall said as he handed me a small envelope. Inside was a cheesy card and when I opened it a black card to Nando’s fell out of it.

“Are you serious?! YOU GOT ME A BLACKCARD TO NANDO’S?! OH MY DOG!” I screamed as I pulled Niall into a bone crushing hug, refusing his protests of letting him go so he could breathe. “How did you manage to get me this? I’m not famous like you!”

“I pulled a few strings,” he told me with a smug smile on his face and I kissed his cheeks over and over again.

“I fuckin’ love you guys.” We all rolled off my bed shortly after and ran into the living room to watch some TV while Charlotte made us all dinner.

“Hey, can one of you guys run to the store? I forgot to buy rolls and it’s a necessity!” Charlotte yelled from the kitchen and all the boys looked at one another to see who would be the one to step up to the task.

“I’ll go,” Zayn said as he stood up and walked over to the door to put his shoes on. “I need to get more cigarettes anyways.”

“I thought you quit?” I asked him, curiously.

“It’s too hard.” I chuckled at his response.

“Do you mind if I tag along too?” I asked him and he looked at me with surprised eyes. “I need some fresh air.”

“’Course, bird. Come on now,” he said holding his hand out to me as I approached him and shoved my feet into my uggs. We walked out of my apartment and down the stairs before walking onto the crowded streets of London.

“We walking?” I asked him and he nodded his head while he threw his arm over my shoulder. We walked in silence for a bit before Zayn broke the silence.

“How are you?” He asked, and I knew he was asking how I was with the whole breaking up and being pregnant thing, and not just asking casually how my day was.

“I’m taking it day by day, it’s hard, really, really hard.”

“Understandable. I’m glad you came with me, I just wanted to see how you were without you getting interrogated by everyone else,” Zayn genuinely said as we waited to safely cross the street.

“How’s Perrie?” I asked him and smile instantly took over his face.

“She’s great, we’re great,” he said while looking down at me. I saw a few young girls’ mouths drop and eyes go wide out of the corner of my eye, I’m guessing because Zayn was walking beside me. I looked up at him and noticed he want unphased by the all the girls freaking out.

“You know, I think out of all of you, I like going out the most with you,” I randomly said and Zayn looked at me with bunched up eyebrows, signaling for me to go on. “You don’t act like you’re famous. You go out in public without any sort of disguise and you just ignore people that freak out with they see you. It’s refreshing,” I told him and he chuckled at me.

“That’s because I suck at being famous and I zone out too much.”

“You don’t suck at being famous,” I told him with a roll of my eyes and nudging him with my elbow.

“I do too, Abby. I never know what to do; management always has to tell me. You’d think I would pick up after 3 years but here I am, awkward as a fuckin’ turtle.” I couldn’t help but bark out a laugh at his comparison.

“Zayn, you aren’t awkward,” I said and he gave me a pointed look. “Okay, maybe you are a little awkward but we all are. And you don’t suck at being famous; you just don’t let it get to your head.”

“So I’m not vain?” He joked whilst looking down at me.

“No, Zayn. You aren’t vain, only when it comes to your looks,” I said and he glared at me. “Although, I am happy I’m one of the few people that get to touch your hair.” I smiled at him. We walked into the store and went straight to the bakery to grab some rolls for dinner. We were a block away from heading back to my apartment when I decided to ask Zayn a serious question.

“Hey Zayn, if I ask you a question do you promise to be completely honest?”

“Go for it, bird.”

“How’s Harry?” I asked him, biting my lip as I anticipated his answer.

“I don’t want to break your already broken heart, but I said I’d be honest. Abby…he’s talking to Taylor Swift. And it’s looking to be a bit serious,” Zayn said as he pulled me into his side, his way of being comforting.

“So then all those gossip sites are right?” I looked up at him and he nodded his head.

“Is he happy…with her?” I continued to ask.

“It’s hard to tell. We don’t see a lot of him when we have days off, but when we do he’s glued to his phone and hiding his emotions from us.”

“Oh,” I said as I looked down at the ground.

“Bird, don’t worry. None of us like her, she’s bad news. We all prefer you,” Zayn assured me and I smiled at him as we waited for the elevator to come down to the lobby.

“She’s going to make him look bad,” I said and Zayn motioned for me to go on. “They’ll break up and she’ll write a song about him that makes him look like the bad guy even if he isn’t. And then it’ll make you all look bad.”

“You’re probably right,” Zayn said as we stepped inside the elevator. “But none of us can get through to him.”

“My theory about Taylor Swift and all this dating is that she dates so she has inspiration to write a song. That’s the only way her music tops the charts, is by her being a cold-blooded bitch.”

“Alright my little fire cracker, settle down there,” Zayn joked as we walked down the hall to my door.

“Why do you call me bird?” I curiously asked him.

“To tell you the truth, I don’t know. Ever since I saw you start wearing that owl necklace and the bird necklace I just started calling you a bird. You’re kind of like a bird,” he said and I couldn’t help but laugh as we walked through the door.

“How am I like a bird?” I asked him.

“You’re really random, like when go somewhere. You just get up without telling anyone and go. And when you laugh you sound like a bird,” he said and I punched him in the arm while giggling.

“Jerk! I’m never laughing again!” I told him while I threw myself down next to Niall and curled into his side.

“Why aren’t you ever laughing again?” Niall asked me as he rested his head on my shoulder.

“Because apparently I sound like a bird when I do.”

“It’s okay, I’ve been told I sound like a hyena when I laugh,” Niall, very seriously, said causing me to burst out laughing.

“YOU SO DO!” I said in between fits of laughter.

It’s nice to hang out with my friends; they never fail to pick me up when I’m feeling down. Even though I talked about Harry tonight, what happened, between him and I, didn’t cross my mind once. I felt at peace, and it was a nice feeling to have for the first time in weeks.
