I will wait for him.
I stood there helplessly as the doctors and nurses rushed Alex inside.
I slumped down in my seat.
I will wait for him.
I will wait for as long as it takes.
I will stay.
I will not run away.
Suddenly, an elder woman with blond hair rushed in. Her face screamed “I AM PANICKING” as she looks around wildly, and her gaze landed on me.
She grabbed my shoulders and started shaking me.
“Where’s my son!?!” She yelled at me.
“I-I-In there.” I was shocked. My eyes were wide open as she kept shaking me.
Her hands suddenly dropped from my shoulders. I took this time to get some air.
“Who are you?” She asked me.
“I’m….” I weighed my options. I could say that I’m the one who caused him to get in this accident because I was stupid enough to walk across the streets and then have him save me. That would be honest. But she will hate me and probably kick me out. I could also say that I was hanging out with him when the accident happened, but then she would proably ask why didn’t I save him. Suddenly, I came up with something brilliant. It’s lying a bit. But I have to.
“Alex-” I suddenly thought of the possibility that Alex never told his parents he’s been using a fake name. So I decided not to risk it with the real name. “Liam, he asked me to tutor him in…. Chemistry. We were going outside to study but I had to use the washroom so I was in his house when it happened. I was the one who brought him to the hospital.” I looked down, avoiding her gaze.
“I am so sorry for freaking out like that,” Says Alex’s mom, “thank you for taking care of my son.” She smiled.
“You’re welcome,” I smiled back weakly. I felt so guilty.
She sat down next to me. “My name is Karen, by the way.” She said.
“Colen Holik,” I smiled.
She sighed, “Liam, he’s always been a poor child. Kind of like a natural magnet for disaster.” She shook her head. “He almost died when he was born. He only had one kidney, but he lived happily even though he had health problems from time to time.”
I stared at her, neither Liam or Alex told me that.
“That’s probably the reason why he got bullied so much I guess,” She continued. “He never tells me what happens but sometimes when I’m stopping by to pick him up, I would see, a gang of kids gaining up on him. He would always walk to me and say they’re just his friends and they’re fooling around since he never wanted me to worry. He’s always been such a good boy.”
My tears fell down for the 4th time today. Why would he keep it all inside himself? Why didn’t he tell me?
