A Beautiful Affair

Chapter 10

Chapter 10:
Juliet’s POV
“WHOO!” I screeched as the bowling ball knocked down all of the pins.
“Nice,” Harry and Paris chorused as I gave them both high fives at the same time, and plopped into the booth that was by the lane.
“If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were totally yanking my chain when you said ‘oh I’ve never bowled before’,” Harry said the last line in a high-pitched girly voice.
“Hey!” I threw a skittle at his face, “I don’t sound like that, do I?” I turned to Paris.
“Well…” She shrugged and snuck a glance at Harry and winked.
I faked gasped and grabbed my chest, “lies,” I stated and threw another skittle at Harry.
“Hey,” he whined while grabbing the skittle out of his hair, “stop throwing skittles.”
He threw it back at me and I dodged it. I grabbed a handful out of the bag and started repeatedly throwing them at him while stating, “Taste the rainbow curly.”
“Hey Harry?” Paris questioned when I stopped my pursuit of making Harry taste the rainbow.
“Mhmm,” he mumbled while eating all the skittles I threw at him.
“If you don’t mind me asking…but… wel, why did Karen go stay with her best friend tonight?”
Flashback to earlier today
“You feeling better now?” Karen questioned as she walked into the guest bedroom where Harry and I were sitting next to each other on the bed and talking about memories from when we were younger.
“Yeah, I am,” I got up from my spot on the bed and walked over to her and pulled her into a giant bear hug. “Thanks for listening to me,” I whispered into her ear.
“Anytime… but I have to go,” she mumbled into my ear.
“What? Where?” I asked, still into her neck making sure Harry couldn’t hear.
“I’m going to think this wedding thing over.”
“Oh.” I replied.
“Don’t say anything to Harry quite yet,” she whispered.
“I won’t.” We pulled away and Karen walked over to Harry and kind of gave me eyes to leave. So I excused myself and left.
Flashback Over
My eyes went wide and I looked down.
“She said she had to discuss wedding things,” he shrugged and went back to eating skittles.
She… she told him… that she was discussing wedding plans when in reality she was rethinking the whole thing. I sighed.
“Everything alright?” Harry questioned.
“Yeah…why?”
“Oh you just sighed quite loud… that’s all.”
Oh I sighed out loud… I meant to do that inwardly. “Hah I was just thinking how bad I whipped you two in bowling on my first time ever bowling.”
“Oh really?” Harry retorted, putting his skittles down.
“Really.”
“Rematch?” he put his hand out and I gabbed it shaking.
“Rematch.”
**
“Oh whatever, I didn’t cheat Harry!” His head fell back in laughter as we walked to the local pizza shop. Paris rolled her eyes.
“I really do think you rigged something in that game, no ones ever beat me at bowling.” He smirked and poked my side.
“Yeah, yeah!” I waved him off and laughed.
“My lady,” Harry held the door open for Paris and bowed.
“Thanks,” she giggled.
“My cheater,” he bowed.
I walked straight in, “Say I’m a cheater one more time curly.”
He smirked, “Ch…Ch…Cheater!” Harry was cut off when I placed my hands on his sides and started tickling.
Take it back!” I giggled, his laugh being contagious.
“N—Ne-vver!” he stuttered in between laughter, god that laugh.
“Awh! You guys are so cute!” Both Harry and I’s laughter stopped abruptly and I dropped my hands from his side and put them behind my back.
My head turned toward the voice that had said it and my eyes landed on a sweet old lady that was wearing a ‘pizza’ shirt. Must work here. My cheeks flushed and I awkwardly stepped away from Harry and to Paris, who was conveniently laughing her ass off.
“You guys are the cutest couple I’ve ever seen walk in this restaurant!”
Harry coughed, and both of us chorused as we said, “We’re not a couple.”
Her smile faltered as she took a second glance at Harry. “Wait,” she placed a finger on her chin like she was thinking, “Ah!” She sang in victory as she fist pumped in the air. “You were here before! Three days ago I believe… with a very pretty lady!”
He shifted on his feet, “Yeah, that was my fiancé.”
Her smile now completely dropped and she grabbed menus. “Well if you don’t mind me saying anything sir, but the two of you looked pretty unhappy together the day you came in before,” she stopped and pointed at the two of us. “But you two look like two hopelessly in love puppies.”
I choked on my spit and Harry’s eyes went wide. Thank god Paris was blessed with the ability to clear awkward situations. “Table for three please.”
**
As if on cue Paris, Harry and I threw the crust of our pizza on the tray in the middle that was once full of pizza, but now full of crumbs and crust.
I exhaled deep and placed my hands on my stomach, sitting back. “I think I’ve just gained 10 pounds.”
Paris poked my stomach. “You know I think you could gain some weight…”
I rolled my eyes and laid my head back on the booth we were sitting at. I heard a deep chuckle come from in front of me so I opened my eyes and peered at Harry who was having a giggle fit. He held his stomach in his hands and his head was rested against the booth, laughter escaping his mouth in short breaths.
Paris raised an eyebrow and I just starred at the demented guy I called my teacher. After about two minutes of insane laughter, Harry finally calmed down and regained his breath; he shook his curls out and grabbed his soda, taking a long gulp.
“What?” he asked as he saw me starring at him with confusion written on my face.
“Well, I was just wondering why you laughed your ass off for about two minutes straight.” I replied smirking.
“Oh, that.” He said giggling a bit; I nodded my head for him to continue. “I was just laughing cause you girls eat like pigs, but are so thin… it’s like impossible.”
Paris and I shared a look, than burst out laughing. “Oh yeah, I exercise!” I said between giggles.
“By lifting the remote off the table and changing channels!” Paris and I both chorused.
“I think I’ve made a six pack!” Paris said in between laughs.
“Of pudding!” I finished for her, laughing harder. “Ohhhh,” I sighed settling down from my laughter and wiping the tears that had fallen from the corners my eyes. “You crack me up Harry! You really do!”
He rolled his eyes and placed the tip on the counter, standing up signaling it was time to go. “Glad I could help.” We all walked in line outside and to Harry’s car, getting in and settling down while he sped off down the road.
“Hey Jules,” Harry asked after a comfortable silence.
“Yup,” I replied popping the ‘p’.
“Your dad… he told me he was going to be gone for the night. Do you think we could stop at your house and grab your guys’ clothes and other necessities for while you will be staying with me?” Harry asked hesitantly.
I sighed and sent a smile in his direction, which he gladly returned. “Sure thing!”
“Really?” he asked, his eyes widening slightly.
I nodded my head, “Ain’t no thang butta chicken wang.” I looked around to Paris and Harry to see there confused and amused looking faces from my last sentence. “Just trying to lighten the mood.” I said shrugging my shoulders, smirking.
“Right…” Harry said shaking his head, chuckling and turning his gaze to the road again.
**
“Is that it?” Harry asked as he walked up beside me and watched as I zipped up both mine and Paris’ suitcases.
I scratched the top of my head and stuck my tongue out a bit, “I think… I mean Paris really does have a better fashion sense than me so… I tried my best. Maybe we shouldn’t have dropped her off at your house before we came here.” I picked up both suitcases and grunted as I put them on the ground by my bedroom door,
“Oh come on, you don’t have that bad of a fashion sense!” Harry called as he laid flat on his back on my bed.
“Yeah, if you call skinny jeans, converse, and band t-shirts a good fashion sense.” I laid flat next to him and looked to my ceiling.
“Are those stars?” Harry questioned, looking at al the little white dots on my ceiling.
“Hold on,” I said, while getting up and hopping over to my light switch. I switched the light off and ran back over to the bed, laying flat again. I looked up and saw all the once little while blobs turn into blue sparkly stars illuminating my ceiling, lighting up my whole room.
“Wow…” Harry breathed admiring the beauty of it. “Why…?” he questioned, finally turning to look at me, but I moved my gaze from him to the ceiling.
“My mother used to say ‘whenever we are in the world… may it be far apart or close together… whenever you miss me, look up into the night’s sky at all the stars and remember that somewhere out there, I’m looking at the same stars to… thinking of you’ it helps you know…” I moved my gaze from the stars to harry, finding him staring back at me. “When she died, I thought back to that moment bought all these stars…hoping… praying… that I would be able to hang onto that little bit I had left of her…but I’m losing more and more of her each day… We don’t get to see very many stars out here in Holmes Chapel, you know.” I chuckled and Harry nodded.
“You’re different,” Harry stated.
“Good or bad?” I questioned, raising an eyebrow.
“Good,” he chuckled, grinning ear to ear. “Defiantly in a good ‘different’ way.”
