Loved You First (Sequel to Simon's Daughter)

Chapter 26

Zayn’s POV:

“Mate, are you sure this is a good idea?” I groaned, as Liam and I drove through the now dark city of London. I don’t know why he wanted to be out this late. I gave in to him, afterall. I hated seeing him stress over Jules when she alright. But he didn’t believe me at all. He wanted to see it for himself.

“Hell, yeah. How else are we going to check on her?” He asked, scoffing as if my question was stupid.

“Um, well one, I told you they were fine. Second, you could have called her.” I raised an eyebrow, shrugging my shoulders.

“She never returns my calls anymore. What makes you think she would now?” Liam turned to me, and I glanced over at him before focusing my eyes back on the road. I sighed, not really giving him an answer. I parked the car about half a block away from Julia’s house and we proceeded to get out of the car. I sighed, looking over at Liam who just simply nodded at me.

I felt like we were breaking into someone’s house.

“Zayn, mate, c’mon!” Liam whisper shouted at me. He was already half way down the block. He has most definitely gone mad.

“Liam, this is batshit crazy! We can’t do something like this! It’s invading her privacy.” I shouted in a hushed tone, but he just continued to walk away from me. Never have I imagined Liam Payne basically breaking into someone’s house. That’s something I would expect from Louis.

“Zayn, look!” He pointed once we got to a close distance to her house. I saw two figures standing face to face with each other, going in for a hug. Before I could do anything, Liam took off, running closer and closer. I groaned, knowing I had to run after him.

“Jules?” I heard Liam say once we were closer to her. I could see Jules and another lad just breaking away from a hug. Who the hell is he?

“L-Liam? Is that you?” Jules said, her eyes widening. She looked at me, and then back at Liam.

“What are you doing here?” She asked again, furrowing her eyebrows.

“Well um…I sort of found out about Zayn seeing you today. I made him come here with me. Jules, look. I’m sorry for showing up unexpectedly, but I’ve been trying t—“ Liam smiled, walking closer to her, but she just backed away.

“Zayn, I told you not to tell anybody…” She said quietly, looking away. I could see Liam’s heart shatter when he heard that. She didn’t even want to see her own best friend.

“Jules I—“ Liam tried, but once again, Julia cut him off.

“Liam, don’t. Please. There was a reason I didn’t answer your calls and text messages. I thought I made it clear…” Again, she kept her head down, not making eye contact with either of us. Or the lad standing next to her.

“Yet, you hung out for hours with Zayn? Are you kidding me? After all I’ve done for you. I’ve helped you through everything. I was there when you were broken, and kept your secret. I even helped you when you basically caused two of my best friends to hate each other.” Liam, scoffed.

“Liam, don’t.” I stopped him. He had no right to say that. We made it clear a while ago that we were over that.

“No, he’s right. Never thought he’d actually say it aloud, though. I thought we were over with that…” She finally looked up, at him. I could see a small tear forming in her eyes.

“Whatever. I should get going…” Liam shook his head, turning on his heels, starting to walk in the opposite direction.

“Liam, wait…” Jules called out to him, but he continued walking.

“Don’t worry, love. I’ll talk to him, okay? I’ll check on you later, alright?” I said, trying to make her feel a tad better, although it didn’t look like it helped. I kissed her forehead, before I was on my way, right behind Liam.

Julia’s POV:
“I’ve totally messed up now…” I sighed, wiping away the few tears that seemed to escape my eyes without me knowing.

“Hey, don’t say that.” Eric wrapped his arm around me, pulling a loose strand of my hair behind my ear.

“It’s true, though…he probably hates me now.” I sniffled, hoping the tear would stop. But of course, they didn’t.

“Nobody could hate you, love. You’re a sweet girl. He probably just said that out of anger. You two obviously have some unresolved issues to sort out, though. Is he your…ex?” He asked, curiously?

“What? No. No, absolutely not. Just my best friend…well I think he’s still my best friend…” I slumped my shoulders, feeling a few more tears rolling down my already red and puffy cheeks.

“Well he’s an absolute arse if he ever lets you go.” He gave me a small smile, before unwrapping his arm from around me.

“Thanks, Eric. For walking me home and cheering me up.” I smiled slightly back at him, admiring his pretty eyes in the moonlight.

“It was my pleasure, Jules.” He gave me a friendly wink before hugging me one last time, before he turned around, about to make his way home.

“Wait!” I stopped him, and walked towards him. I held out my phone, gesturing for him to type in his number. He did so, and smiled happily.

“I’ll see you around, Ms. Cowell.”

“Right back at you Mr….”

“Stevens.”

“Well, right back at you Mr. Stevens.” I joked, laughing softly. He chuckled as well, before waving one last time.

What a night.
