Loved You First (Sequel to Simon's Daughter)

Chapter 25

Zayn’s POV:
“What the hell is this?” Liam said, making me turn around. As soon as I saw the text, I froze. Nobody was supposed to know about today except for Lexi and Jules. Good going, Zayn.

“Uh…that’s nothing. She probably meant to send that to someone else…” I shrugged, trying to hide my lie. I knew he would see right through it though.

“Bullshit.” He called out. I sighed, running a hand through my hair. How was I supposed to tell him that I hung out with Jules today? He would be devastated. I know he really cares about her, and all he wants is for her to be happy…

“Look, Liam—“ I couldn’t even finish my sentence with him interrupting me.

“Is she okay? Why is she here? Is Lexi okay?” He paced back and forth, a look of worry plastered on his face. I felt awful for him.

“She’s fine. They’re both fine. She said she was here visiting her father. Look, we can’t let the others know about this, okay? It will just create more and more stress on us all. Especially Niall.” I said, quietly, but apparently not quiet enough.

“Especially Niall what?” Liam and I turned and saw Harry just walking into the kitchen.

“Uh…we were talking about how depressed Niall was.” I lied, hoping he would buy it.

“That’s not what it sounded like.” Harry furrowed his eyebrows, curiously. We couldn’t let him know about Jules. He and Niall are still not on good terms, so I don’t think it’s the best time.

“Harry, it’s nothing.” Liam insisted, with a sigh and a shake of his head.

“What happened to never keeping secrets?” Harry scoffed, crossing his arms as he leaned against the counter. Man, this boy was relentless.

“Harry, mate, now just isn’t the best time. It’s nothing important, really.” Liam replied, as I just kept quiet. I knew Harry would listen to Liam.

“Whatever.” He mumbled in a response. Harry rolled his eyes walking away, obviously aggravated.

“What’s his deal?” Liam turned back to me, raising an eyebrow. I shrugged my shoulders, not even knowing myself.

“So…what now?” I asked quietly, staring at the ground beneath my feet. I could hear Liam sigh. This was hurting him, I knew it was. Not being able to see your best friend.

“I want to see her.”

Julia’s POV:
“Hey, dad, do you mind watching Lexi while I go out for a bit?” I poked my head into his office, and saw him doing some kind of paperwork. He continued to do whatever he was doing, but nodded his head.

“Of course.” He said simply. I sighed, wishing for just a second he would actually make eye contact with me so I knew for sure if he was listening or not.

“Okay, well she’s napping now, but I’ll be back soon.” I gave him a small smile, even though he couldn’t see, and I was on my way (Outfit).

I decided to take a walk around, just to have some time to myself. It was getting a bit dark outside, and I shouldn’t have even left, but I needed quiet time to myself. I walked into a nearby coffee shop not too far from the house, just to keep warm. There weren’t any people, thank god, so I didn’t have to wait in a line or anything.

As I walked in, I made my way to the counter, looking up at the menu. When I figured out what I wanted, I looked at the cashier. My eyes grew slightly wider as I saw a boy, about my age (maybe a bit older), smiling at me. He wore a plain white t-shirt with a green apron on top. His hair was styled so that it ‘swooped’ up. His eyes were gorgeous. They were greenish- gray, and I couldn’t take my eyes off of his.

“Enjoying the view?” I heard him chuckle, which brought me out of my daze. Wow, that was embarrassing…

“Oh, god, I am so sorry.” I looked away quickly, averting my eyes to anywhere but him.

“Don’t worry, love. It’s alright. What can I get for you?” He grinned widely at me and I could feel my cheeks getting warm.

“Uh… c-can I have a cup of hot chocolate, please?” I stuttered as I made eye contact with him once again.

“Why, of course you can.” He grabbed a cup and wrote my order on it, passing it to another employee, who then began making the beverage.

“Not very busy today, is it?” I said, trying to make small talk as I handed him the amount of money I owed. Can’t blame me. It was a bit awkward.

“Nope, not really. It’s been pretty empty all day. I’m glad you stopped by.” He flashed me a small smile, making my insides melt. He’s cheeky but adorable.

“I’m glad I did too.” I looked away, rocking back and forth on my heels. I was terrible at flirting. He was so cute, too. He probably thinks I’m a weirdo.

“Here you go, miss.” The other employee handed me my drink once he finished making it. I thanked him, and took the cup from him. Before I turned around, I reached into my pocket pulling out a tip. I placed it in the tip jar on the counter, and gave the boy a smile. I looked at his name tag and saw that his name must be ‘Eric’.

I walked away from the counter and found a spot in the corner next to the window. I wasn’t ready to leave yet, because I wanted just a little more time to myself. I didn’t bring anything with me except for my phone, so I decided to just scroll through twitter.

After I finished my hot chocolate, I got up, pushed in my chair and walked over to the trash to throw it away. As soon as I was about to head to the door, I heard the familiar voice from earlier.

“Wait!” I turned around, seeing the boy frantically running over to me. “It’s pretty dark out, you shouldn’t be walking by yourself. Let me walk you home?” He raised an eyebrow with a cheeky grin. I giggled slightly, but nonetheless nodded my head. I could tell he was happy, because his smile grew a bit wider.

He walked past me, opening to door and motioning for me to go first. I smirked, feeling my cheeks get warm again. I stepped back out into the cold, London air and he stepped out right behind me.

“Thanks, for offering Eric.” I smiled widely, greatly appreciating his offer.

“No problem. So I see you already know my name?” He joked, giving me a playful wink, which I laughed at slightly. He chuckled back.

“It was on your nametag.” I stated simply. He nodded his head in realization.

“Oh, yeah. Well since you know my name, may I know yours?” He smiled politely at me, shoving his hands in his pockets.

“Julia. You can call me Jules, though. That’s what my friends call me.” I shrugged my shoulders, continuing to walk down the sidewalk with him.

“Ah, so I’m a friend now. I’m okay with that.” Eric smiled cheekily, causing me to nudge him slightly.

We walked along the path together, slowly, just talking about ourselves and getting to know one another. He was a great guy, actually. He played football at his university, he didn’t get terrible grades but then again they weren’t that great either. He also mentioned having a little sister and a single mother. His life sounded complicated a little. When he was younger, his father left his family and never returned. He hadn’t heard from him since.

“So what about you?” He asked. “Tell me about your family. I mean, only if you want to.” He asked, kicking a small nearby rock.

“Oh, yeah. Well I have a cousin who lives in America, well I actually live in America too, I’m just visiting. My mother passed away when I was young, so I don’t remember her all that well. It was just me and my dad growing up. But he wasn’t always around because of work and stuff.” I shrugged my shoulders, shivering slightly at the cold weather.

“I’m sorry to hear that.” He said sympathetically. I waved it off.

“Nah, it’s fine. That’s what you get when you’re Simon Cowell’s daughter. I got to do more stuff when he wasn’t around anyways.” I joked, laughing softly. I looked over at him and his eyes grew wide.

“You mean the Simon Cowell?” He asked, raising his eyebrows. I nodded my head.

“How many Simon Cowells are in the world?” I teased, causing him to scoff playfully.

“Hey, you know what I meant.” He chuckled lightly.

“I just like messing with you.” I winked. “But he’s around more now, now that he has a granddaughter and all.”

“Oh, you have a daughter? How old is she?” He asked, a smile forming on his lips.

“She’s three. Turning four soon, actually.” I grinned at the thought of my beautiful daughter. The best thing that’s ever happened to me.

“So I’m guessing your husband wouldn’t be too happy if I gave you my number would he?” Eric chuckled, and I almost choked on air.

“Husband? Oh, no no no. I’m not married. Her father is…out of the picture…sort of…it’s complicated.” I nervously laughed.

“Oh. So does that mean you wouldn’t mind me giving you my number?” We stopped walking once we reached the gate of my father’s house. I bit down on my bottom lip gently, looking down. Damn his charm.

“I wouldn’t mind at all, actually.” I said, with a smile. We quickly exchanged numbers, and said our goodbyes.

“Thank you so much for walking me. You really didn’t have to. I’m sure you had better things to do.” I bit the inside of my cheek, shrugging.

“Are you kidding me? I never have plans.” He chuckled lightly. “You’re very welcome Julia. I mean, Jules.” He leaned in for a hug, and I gladly accepted, hugging him back before we were rudely interrupted.

“Jules?” I know that voice. I know that voice very well and I thought I wouldn’t hear it again.
