Chapter 28: Picnic
Chapter 28: Picnic (Zayn’s P.O.V.)
I couldn’t make up my mind on which shirt I was going to wear. I felt like such a girl, but I wanted to look good for our date. I hadn’t really been able to take Tori on a proper date because of my busy schedule and her having to go to school.
“Zayn!” I heard Niall calling from the main room. “You’re going to be late!”
I looked over at the clock to see that he was right, “Shit.”
I turned and grabbed my phone as I darted out of my room. I hopped as I pulled my shoes on.
“Liam,” I called his name as I came into the living room, “Keys.”
“Catch,” he responded as he tossed the keys up.
I snatched them out of the air as I passed them. I slid on the hard wood floor a little as I grabbed the door knob.
“Have fun!” Niall called as I opened the door.
Harry managed to scream one last thing before I closed the door, “Just not too much fun!”
I sighed and shook my head as I headed for the car we had rented. I hopped in and started it up. I flipped through the radio stations as I headed to Tori’s to pick her up. It wasn’t that long before I was putting the car in park outside of her house.
I was humming to myself as I stepped out of the car and headed for her front door. I didn’t even realize it right away, but I was humming One Thing. It was amusing how that was the song that I had started humming.
I knocked on the door as I quit humming. I smiled as Tori’s mom opened the front door. She smiled back at me.
“Oh Zayn,” she spoke, “Come on in. She’s almost ready.”
I nodded my head and thanked her as I stepped into the house. I was greeted by something rubbing against my leg. I looked down to see Ranger walking around my legs. I leaned down and rubbed his head. He put his front paws on my leg and stretched. I picked him up and continued to pet him as he rubbed his head against my chin.
“He is an attention hog, isn’t he?”
I looked up to see Tori standing in the hallway as she watched me hold Ranger. I couldn’t help but stare. She was wearing a pair of black mini shorts with a cream colored tube top that flared at the bottom. It fit her figure just right as her long brown hair fell down her shoulders. She was wearing a cream colored headband that was covered in roses. I could help but stare at her.
She smiled a little as she looked down, “You can stop staring.”
I blinked a few times as I shook my head, “Sorry.”
There was a moment of silence before Tori’s mom broke the silence. “Well, if you two are ready to go, I have a lot of cleaning to get done today.”
I set Ranger down on the floor and extended a hand to Tori, “Shall we go then?” I could feel a slight blush come to my cheeks as one came to Tori’s.
“You two behave now,” her mom smiled as she waved at us. We climbed into the car and I started it up. It wasn’t long before we were riding on down the road. We rode in silence for a while.
“So,” Tori finally broke the silence, “Where are we going?”
I smiled as I held my secret a little longer, “You’ll see.” I wanted this to be as much of a surprise as it could be since I wasn’t sure when we would be able to go on a date together again.
“Please,” she tried to get me to tell her. It almost worked, but I somehow managed to not give in.
“You’ll just have to wait,” I said as I gave her hand a little squeeze. I listened to her breathe out a sigh as I continued down the street. My destination finally came into view and I felt a small smile creep across my face.
“Close your eyes,” I said as I gave her hand another squeeze.
“Fine,” Tori sighed as she closed her eyes. I continued to check and make sure her eyes were closed as I pulled into a parking space.
“Keep your eyes closed,” I started as I shut off the car, “I am going to come around and get you out of the car.”
She sighed an okay as I headed out of the car and around it quickly. I opened the passenger side door and helped her out. I looked around us as I lead Tori toward our destination. I had chosen a little park that wasn’t far from Tori’s house. It seemed like a perfect little place for a picnic.
“Okay,” I said, “Stop for a minute, but don’t open your eyes.”
I began to spread the blanket that I had carried along with basket. I tried to work as quickly as I could.
I looked up at Tori, “No peeking.”
“I’m not,” Tori replied as she crossed her arms over her chest.
I smiled as I finished setting everything out. I stood back to my feet and laced my fingers in Tori’s as I spoke, “You can look now.”
I watched as she slowly opened her eyes. Joy seemed to fill them as she gazed at the sight in front of her. A smile lit up her face as she turned to me.
“Zayn…” she mumbled before she hugged me. “It’s perfect.”
“It’s not done yet either,” I whispered in her ear.
She broke the hug and looked at me in wonder. I smiled as I reached into my pocket and pulled out a box.
“Zayn…” she breathed as she took the box. Her eyes lit up as her eyes landed on the necklace that I picked out. “I love it.”
I smiled back, “Do you want me to put it on you?”
“Please,” she smiled as she handed me the necklace.
She turned around as I unclasped the necklace. I stopped for a moment to look at it. I had chosen a necklace with an infinity sign on it. I wanted to let Tori know that I was here for all of time, for infinite time.
“Thank you,” she turned around after I had put it on her.
We looked at each other for a moment, our eyes locked onto one another’s. I hadn’t even known that we had been leaning closer together until our lips met. The kiss lasted only five seconds, but it felt like forever as we held each other and kissed passionately.
We stopped, pulling apart to look each other in the face. We stayed there for a little bit, before I broke the silence.
“Shall we eat?” I asked.
She smiled, “Let’s.”
