Chapter 27: Graduation Gift

Chapter 27: Graduation Gift (Tori’s P.O.V.)

I was so excited. We all were. Today was the day. Today was the day that we said goodbye to our life as high school students and stepped out into the real world.

I was practically bouncing in my seat as another graduation speech was being delivered. I looked down at the program that was in my lap. Once this speech was over, there was only one thing left: a special guest. I couldn’t help but wonder who the special guest that I was really curious to figure out who it was. There wasn’t really a way to be certain on who my principal would invite to be a special guest at our graduation, but I did just hope that they didn’t have another long speech to read through.

My principal stepped up to the microphone again, “And there is one more thing we have planned for tonight’s special occasion. So without any further wait, I would like to introduce you to our special guests.”

Two things happened then. I noticed that my principal had said ‘guests’ and not guest. The second things was that the lights in the gym had gone out except for a small spotlight that was shining on the stage.

“Hey everybody,” I heard coming from somewhere in the darkness. I felt my ears perk up at the sound of the familiar British accent.

“I’m Louis,” Louis said as he popped his head into the light.

Niall followed suit and stuck his head out too, “I’m Niall.”

“I’m Zayn.”

“I’m Harry.”

“I’m Liam.”

I smiled as they all leaned out with their heads in the lights, “And we’re One Direction.”

The gym was filled with screams and excited applauses. I just smiled like an idiot as they all stepped out into the light and said congratulations to all of us who were graduating.

“Well, we all had a little treat for you guys,” Liam started, “Our graduation present to you.”
As he finished speaking, music began to fill the air. A smile grew wider on my lips as I recognized the song before Liam began singing the opening.

“It feels like we’ve been livin’ in fast forward,
Another moment passing by.
The party’s ending but it’s now or never,
Nobody’s going home tonight.”

The song moved through Harry’s part in the bridge before the song moved into the chorus. Then Zayn picked up the second verse.

“Don’t even care about the table breaking,
We only wanna have a laugh.
I’m only thinking about this girl I’m seeing,
I hope she’ll wanna kiss me back.”

Zayn pointed at me as he sang the last two lines. I felt a faint blush cover my face as he winked at me. I smiled lightly and bit my lower lip. I hadn’t really told anyone about me knowing the guys or that Zayn and I were going out. By some miracle, Lacy and her gang hadn’t managed to blab about me knowing the guys, but that was probably because it would also have to involve the whole school knowing that she had been told off by Liam.

I pushed all off that to the back of my mind as I looked up and continued to watch the guys.

“I wanna stay up all night,
And jump around until we see the sun.
I wanna stay up all night,
And find a girl and tell her she’s the one.”

Zayn echoed the chorus as the song began to come to the ending. Smiles covered all of their faces.

“Up all night,
Like this, all night, hey,
Up all night.”

My ears began to ring as screams and applauses filled the rooms. Everyone rose to their feet and clapped even louder, if that was possible.

“Well thank you guys,” the guys started to say their goodbyes. They said how honored they were to have been given the privilege of singing for us and wished us the best in life. They waved goodbye as they exited the stage and the room.

Our principal then stood back up and gave us all her final farewell before we all filed out of the gym in the reverse order that we had used earlier to file in.

“I can’t believe it!” Amber nearly screamed as she hugged me. “We are no longer trapped in this prison.”

I smiled at her as I noticed my mom walking toward us. She had a huge smile on her face. I smiled back as she stopped in front of me. I could see the tear tracks on her cheeks and the other tears that were forming in her eyes as they threatened to fall.

“Mom…”

“I can’t believe you are all grown up now.” She stepped forward and engulfed me in a hug. She whispered into my hair, “I am so proud of you.”

I could feel the tears beginning to well up in my eyes as I hugged her back. I nodded my head in her shoulder.

“Thank you, mom,” I whispered back as we just stood there holding each other.

“Well, look who we have here,” I heard a slick British accent. “Is it my girl?”

I looked over my mom’s shoulder to see Zayn standing there with a bouquet of flowers and a smile.

I smiled as I moved to hug him, “Hey.”

“Hey to you too,” he said as he hugged me back.

“Zayn,” I heard Louis calling, “You forgot the card, mate!”

I looked over Zayn’s shoulder to see the other four walking toward us, Louis holding something above his head. I worried for a moment about someone squealing or jumping them.

Zayn let go of me and looked back at them, “Because I wanted you guys to give it to her.”

“Well isn’t that nice of you?” Louis smiled and gave a little bow. “Then without further ado, I would like to present you, my dear lady, with your graduation present.”

He held out an envelope to me as he and the others all smiled. I had an anxious grin on my face as I began to open it. I was curious about what they would get me. I smiled as I pulled out the cheesy congratulation cards.

“Guys,” I smiled, “You shouldn’t have.”

“Open it,” Liam nodded toward the card. I smiled back as I opened the card. My eyes lit up as I read what the card said.

We want to say that we are proud for your graduation, but we have something else. We would be honored if you would record a single with us.

I looked up at the boys with my mouth hanging open. They were all smiling at me as they watched my reaction.

“Are you serious?” I nearly squealed. I was about to start jumping up and down from pure excitement.

“Yeah,” Liam smiled as they all nodded their heads. “Management gave us the okay. We wanted to come and tell you in person.”

“Thank you,” I squealed as I leapt forward and hugged Liam. “Thank you. Thank you.” I moved forward from guy to guy until I was back to Zayn.

“You guys are awesome!”

They all chuckled at me. I guessed that it was amusing to see me this excited.

“Evidently you are too,” Harry laughed.

“Hey!” I turned to see Natalie and Cody running toward us hand in hand. I was so glad that they had finally gotten together. It had only taken forever for them to admit their feelings for each other.

“You guys won’t believe it,” I said as I ran over to them.

All of us were wearing smiles as we spoke and caught up with the guys. I was certain of one thing, this was the best graduation that I would ever have.
