Chapter 26: Unlucky with Cars

Chapter 26: Unlucky with Cars (Liam’s P.O.V.)

I am not sure how we are managing to get all of these days off from management, but we are loving it. The guys and I were getting more time to spend with Tori and Amber. We did see Natalie and Cody, but not nearly as much as Tori and Amber.

Like now, I was leaning against a building waiting for Tori to pick me up. I had gone for a walk and gotten lost. I hated to have to ask for someone to come and pick me up, but I had no other choice. And I had to ask Tori because she was the only one who could find me.

That was when a little blue car pulled up to the curb in front of me. I watched as Tori leaned over and looked out of the passenger window at me with a smile. I walked over to the car and opened the door, only it didn’t open. Tori leaned over the seat again, reaching for the door. Once she had unlocked it, I opened it and slid inside.

“Sorry,” she apologized as she fastened her seatbelt.

“It’s fine,” I said as I followed suit, “Thanks for coming to get me.”

“Don’t worry about it,” she smiled as she checked for traffic before pulling back out into the street. Once she was on the street, she reached over and turned on her radio and turned it down.

“But tell me,” she started, “How did you manage to get yourself lost?”

I sighed, “I was thinking and not paying attention to where I was going.”

She chuckled a little, “What were you thinking about?”

“Nothing much,” I answered, which was the truth.

We sat there in silence for a little, just listening to the radio. I really wasn’t listening to it as I let my mind wonder again. I was brought back when I heard some familiar words.

“You’re insecure,
Don’t know what for.
You’re turning heads,
When you walk through the door-or-or.”

I chuckled as I listened to my own voice on the radio.

“It’s a little weird, isn’t it?” Tori asked.

I looked over at her and nodded my head a little, “Yeah.”

It was weird to hear my own voice coming out of her car’s speakers. I had no problem with it, it was actually something that I had wanted for most of my life. But that didn’t make the whole thing any less weird.

I turned from Tori and looked out the windshield. My eyes widened as I watched a car slowly merging into our lane and heading straight for us.

“Tori!” I shouted as I pointed at the car. She was already reacting. I jerked to the side as Tori swerved to avoid the oncoming car. The car moved back into its lane and then was gone.

I let out a breath that I was sure that I was holding. I looked down, seeing my knuckles were white as I squeezed the handle on the door. I relaxed my grip on the door.

“Are you okay?” Tori asked as she let out a breath.

I glanced over at her for a moment, seeing that she was a little shaken.

“Yeah,” I gulped, “You?”

She nodded her head, “Yeah. I’m fine.” She then mumbled something under her breath that I couldn’t make out.

“What?” I asked.

She glanced over at me before shaking her head as she looked forward, “I said that I should be used to it.”

My eyes widened, “What do you mean?”

Tori sighed before answering me, “I am just really unlucky when it comes to cars. Like how my car was broke down for school when you and Zayn had to pick me up.”

A thought came to mind, “And that time that Zayn saved you from that car on the way back from recording.”

She nodded, “Yeah. Stuff like that seems to happen to me a lot.” She sighed when she finished as she pulled into her driveway.

I thought for a few moments, thinking over everything. Tori was right, she didn’t seem to have any luck when it came to cars. It was scary to think that she might get hurt.

“Tori,” I started, “I want you to promise me something.”

“What?” she asked me.

“I want you to promise me that you will let someone else drive you.”

She looked at me for a minute, debating what I was saying. She finally nodded her head, “Sure.”

“And I promise that I will drive you around when I am in town.”

She smiled at me, “Thanks.”

I smiled back as we both started to exit the car. We turned and headed toward her house.

I put an arm around her shoulders, “What are brothers for?"
