Chapter 22: Walking Home
Chapter 22: Walking Home (Zayn’s P.O.V.)
I was so glad that Tori had fun today. We had finished up at the arcade and gone for a bite to eat. Then we spent the rest of the evening at Pub Neutral, all taking turns on the stage. This really made Sam happy. It made everyone else in the pub happy too.
We must have sung almost ten songs each. We were there a really long time. Amber had been the first to leave where her dad called, shortly followed by Natalie and Cody. Natalie needed to be somewhere and she was Cody’s ride home. That left Tori at the pub with us five guys. We had a lot of fun, but the day was ending.
“I need to be heading back home,” Tori said with a sad small on her face.
Liam turned and looked outside, “It’s getting dark.”
Tori just gave her soft smile as she stood up, “I’ll be fine.”
“No,” I said as I stood up, “I’ll go with you.”
“No, it’s okay,” she shook her head, “You don’t have to.”
I shook my head, “No, I insist.”
“Okay,” she said as she pushed her chair in. “I’ll see you guys later.”
The others told her goodbye as we headed out the door. I listened to the door close behind me as I walked up to be beside Tori.
“Thank you again for today,” she smiled at me. “I really can’t thank you enough.”
I shook my head, “It was nothing.”
We walked down the street quietly after that for a little. I looked around at the street lights starting to come on. Tori was looking around as well, seeming to enjoy her surroundings.
“You like night time, don’t you?” I asked.
She turned back and looked at me, “Yeah. It’s so peaceful.”
She became lost in her surroundings again. She looked so happy, so carefree. It made me feel so good that she was so happy. As I was thinking, a sound filled the air. I looked over again to see Tori walking with her eyes closed as she hummed. I listened for a moment, trying to recognize the song. Then she started to mumble the words.
“You know I’ll be,
Your life,
Your voice,
Your reason to be.”
I smiled as I realized what song she as singing, before I began to sing along softly with her.
“My love,
My heart,
Is breathing for this
Moment
In time.
I’ll find the words to day,
Before you leave me today.”
I was quiet for a moment as we stopped.
“I love that song,” Tori smiled. “I think it is my favorite song of your’s.”
“I love it too,” I smiled back to her. She smiled brighter at me. I felt my breath hitch for a moment. I loved it when she smiled, it just seemed to light up the entire world.
“Well here we are,” she said as we stopped at the edge of her yard.
I looked from her up to her house. I felt my heart drop a little, I didn’t want her to leave. I enjoyed walking home with her.
“I’ll see you later,” she smiled and waved as she began to walk toward her front door.
“Yeah,” I waved back half-heartedly.
Then I don’t know why I did it, but I called after her.
“Wait a minute,” I jogged to catch up with her as she stood on her front porch.
“What is it, Zayn?” she asked.
To be completely honest, I’m not sure what it was that I wanted to say. I just felt as if I needed to go after her. We stood there for a moment, just looking at each other. I could feel my heart start to beat faster as I looked into her eyes.
She looked down and stammered, “I should probably go in.”
I reached up and brushed my thumb across her chin as I brought her face up to look at me. She looked at me for a moment with those beautiful brown eyes. I was lost in them as she stared back into my eyes. Then I couldn’t help myself, I began to lean forward. She slowly leaned closer too.
Then our lips met and our eyes slowly slipped closed. I wrapped my arms around her as I held her close and kissed her.
