The Reinvention of Harry Styles - Comments, page 2

@ThePale
If you don't like the characters or content of the story, why do you (or anyone else) continue to pay any attention to it? I'm sorry for bothering you with another question (and feel free to ignore this) but this isn't the first time I've come across a reader who felt this way, and I cannot fathom why someone would continue to read something they didn't enjoy (I know I wouldn't).

@BananaShark7
I dislike the content because it’s littered with abuse. Your characters are unlikable because your main girl is emotionally abusive with Harry. Harry comes off as a stupid dickhead incapable of making his own decisions. And you used a persons sexuality as a plot point. There’s a lot that I don’t agree with here. I’m not a narrow minded person.

@ThePale
I guess I'll take that as a compliment, kind of? I'm sure I can guess what you don't like about the content, but what is it you find so unlikable about the characters? Thank you for checking out the story even if you don't agree with the theory it's based on : )

This story has become quite the conundrum in my life. I've read more than enough
to have an opinion but, for some reason, my very weighted opinion doesn't mean
I've stopped checking in on this from time to time. You have quite the knack for
writing the most unlikable characters as well as content.

@GigiC
Thank you! That is so kind of you : ) I try not to pay attention to the rating, but I think you're probably right - but there's not much I can do about that. I'm having fun writing it, and as long as people like reading it, that's all that matters to me : D I do tend to update regularly, mostly because I have a lot of free time right now :p
Thank you, and I'm so happy you like the story! :D

I've just got to say; i'm not all the way caught up. I'm still in the early stages of the story, but i'm really enjoying this. Your writing is really good, and i'm a bit disappointed by the low rating for the story; though I assume its for content reasons. I just want to say, in case you have, don't doubt your talent. It's a really good story, and I am definitely enjoying it. I've always noted that you update pretty regularly--thank you for that too!

As I've stated before, this is just one way of looking at things, I'm not saying it is necessarily the truth. Thank you for checking out the story, even if you don't agree with the theory it is based on.
I appreciate the compliment! If you like my writing, you might want to check out my other story, "Harry Who?" It's more of a typical Harry fanfic.

Molly is the most unlikeable character I've ever encountered in a story and Harry just comes across like he doesn't have his own mind which I don't feel like has ever been the impression that he's given personally... You're a good writer but I completely disagree with your standpoint on the whole thing.

@Kammy.
I do appreciate that you like my writing, but we are all entitled to our own opinions and I am not stating anything in this story as fact. As I've mentioned, the theories and opinions in this story were inspired by the tumblr blog wellthatwasaletdown, and I have done research to back up these claims (because I have too much free time).

In chapter one, Harry states that he wanted to take his career in a different direction from 1D, and the 1970s rock star image was kind of his idea. He let the Azoffs/his team work out the specifics because Irving Azoff (Jeff's father) had a lot of experience with that (he was The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac's manager, among others). So, theoretically, it should have been a no-brainer, guaranteed success. Harry also mentions in chapter one that "they always assure me everything's going as planned" ('they' meaning Jeff/his team) implying he's surrounded by yes-men, which is one of his biggest issues, because no one tells him 'no' even if it's a bad idea (hence, his need for Molly).

Whether or not any of that is true, we'll probably never know, since Harry is quite secretive, but for the sake of the story, that is the basis I am going off of. Personally, I don't necessarily think he was forced into this image by any means, but I think the idea seemed very appealing when it was described to him, yet the execution has not quite come off as planned. I haven't touched on this as much, because this story is not really about how Harry got into this situation, but how he is changing, and reinventing himself (as the title suggests) after not doing as well as expected.

@BananaShark7
Problem is I like your writing, even if I don’t like the subject matter. I just just get worked up because I don’t understand how a fan can see him so negatively. Like you, I was late to the 1D fandom, I came in around after Zayn left. I don’t think H is an infallible, perfect person, but I do think he’s a lot smarter than you are giving him credit for. I get it, you would’ve preferred him to stay in the pop lane...but that was never going to happen. I’d be more inclined to believe he was being forced into a mold if he’d come out with dancers and rap/EDM collaborations (No offense to the other guys, I love them, too.) instead of what he’s doing now. He’s taking a chance and a lot of people are “kinda into it.”And what is so bad about expanding his fan base? It’s not hard to believe that. You weren’t a fan before you saw him on SNL, right?He’s not a 16 yr old kid with no clue anymore. He’s a grown ass man who knows how he wants to be perceived by his fans. If he didn’t want to do something I’m sure he’d not do it and make his voice heard. And Molly’s character, just wow...she tears him down so much...I don’t see him wanting to be with someone that does that.

On a positive note, love the way you dressed him for the BBC show. I love the Gucci suits, but that us something I could see him in as well. And the portrayal of the fans...bang on. The younger fan base especially can be a bit...wow, at times..

The content of this story is not going to change, so if you do not like how Harry is being portrayed or the theories and opinions presented, the logical choice would be to stop reading.

Can I just say...I really don’t like Molly anymore. I’m so close to chucking this story all together....I don’t like the way she treats him...I hate the way Harry is being portrayed-as some blooming idiot that has no clue about his own career direction-and again with the pot shots at his team....are you sure you are a fan??

and you obviously didn’t watch the same special I did and the minute I take anything the Mirror or the Sun says as gospel is the day I need to be comm

@Kammy.
You’ve brought up some points I have been meaning to address since I first started writing this story, so I’ve written a disclaimer about the management theory and how solo/rockstar Harry came to be.

I really do appreciate that you liked the chapter despite having a differing viewpoint, I know that can be difficult. I'm a bit jealous you got to see him in person; I have heard several people say he is absolutely fabulous to see in person! .
As for the BBC special, the timing just seems off. If it were at the beginning of his solo career, I think it would have made more sense to some people, since he had been away for over a year (similar to Adele's BBC special). Personally, I am interested to see it because he and Nick always seem to have a good time together (I also heard there is going to be ax throwing, so I'm very curious now!)
I did not mean to put down Nick or James in any way, so I apologize if it came across that way. I did not compare Harry to Niall, I only mentioned him because Molly wanted to see him. I know the boys get compared a lot, and I too think it is unnecessary, especially since their careers are all different.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, I do appreciate it. I hope you check out the disclaimer I’ve posted, since that might clear up a few things.

Chapter is great...from the story standpoint, but I 2000% disagree with her “complaints.” I saw Harry live a couple weeks ago and he was amazing. His suits are perfect, wearing Gucci started long before going solo. Him on guitar is great...he’s more than a pretty face and voice, he’s a musician and a songwriter. He branded himself a rock artist long before going solo as well...anyone making these RIDICULOUS statements about his shows obviously haven't him live (or watched the abundance of concerts videos on you tube) and I challenge them to even call themselves fans. And what is this bullshit about his BBC special? He is as deserving as anyone that has had those specials. Comparing him to other artists (or the other lads) is pointless. And the digs at Nick and James? Uncalled for.

Harry is a the artist he wants to be...and this bs of trying to say Jeff and his management are forcing him into a mold is just stupid.
