Always the Bestfriend
Jingle Bell Ball 2012
The familiar screams of your fans welcome you as you go out of your limo, and walk the carpet of Jingle Bell Ball 2012. You stand in front of their backdrop and take a few pictures. You were wearing a red sequined dress that had gold details, and had a flattering cut out that showed your bare back. The turn out was amazing this year, you couldn’t help but feel excited for the performances tonight.
Before going over to reporters for interviews, you head over to eager fans. You sign a few autographs - most of them you sign on paper and photographs of you handed out to you by your fans; some you sign on photographs of you and the boys, you and Niall and you and Harry. At that last one you wince, seeing you and Harry in the photos smiling or doing your absurd poses remind you of the sad reality that you were no longer on speaking terms.
As you were taking photos with the fans you hear the occasional screams from the crowd,
“What do think of Haylor?”
“Are you and Harry okay?”
You try your hardest to not let these phase you, and just smile throughout the whole ordeal.
“You’re looking lovely tonight. What’s the secret?” A reporter from E! comments enthusiastically.
“Aww, thank you. Well um, a quick shower always does the trick.” You joke as the reporter continues to interview you about your soon-to-be released second album.
You move from interview to interview, from reporter to reporter. Some only ask you about your performance tonight and your music, others ask you about the lads.
“Y/N, where are the boys?”
“Why are you not walking the carpet together this year?”
“What’s your take on the whole Harry Styles and Taylor Swift drama?”
To all of which you reply a polite,
“I reckon they’ll be along in awhile.”
“Oh, well I was going to wait for them. But Tommo’s hair was giving us problems”
The last question you were saved from answering by hundreds of girls screaming, announcing One Direction’s arrival. Your heart is racing. “What would it be like tonight?” “Will you and Harry finally get to talk?”
——————————
The boys start to walk the carpet.
Harry spots you from afar doing an interview, “It’s been so long since we’ve talked.” he thinks to himself.
He can’t help but admit to himself how much he has missed seeing that warm smile of yours. He notices how your hair falls back on our shoulders and how soft it makes you look. He loved seeing red on you, he feels like it brings out your eyes and thought of how the color matched your personality perfectly - cheerful, loud and absolutely vibrant. “She’s so beautiful.”
“So boys, have you seen Y/N? She’s looking gorgeous tonight huh?”
Apparently, for the past minute while Harry’s mind was off wandering to his best friend the rest of the boys have been answering question after question from reporters. Harry did not care for much of them, but the last question caught his attention and before he knew it he was saying his thoughts out loud.
“She always is. Absolutely gorgeous.”
This catches the rest of the boys off guard, and as soon as Harry realizes what he’s done his cheeks burn with embarrassment. All the boys couldn’t help but laugh at their bandmate’s sudden outburst, all except Niall who was visibly uncomfortable with the situation.
Harry’s cheeks filled with color even more when the reporter decides to grab the opportunity for an even juicier interview by waving Y/N towards them. Harry sees Y/N coming over and by then his heart was beating so fast he thought it’d escape his chest any minute.
——————————
“Damn it, this is just great. My first encounter with Harry after weeks, and it’s going to be on live television.”
“Y/N, absolutely gorgeous as always.” The reporter says and winks at Harry while the other boys laugh.
“Oh. I don’t know about that, but thank you.” You blush.
“No, really. The boys here were just gushing over you, weren’t you Harry?”
Your heart rate picks up. Out of all of them, you can’t believe the reporter chose to ask Harry.
“Uh, he’s right Y/N. You look beautiful.” Harry smiles at you with a look in his eyes you’ve never quite seen before.
That was that. As soon as Harry flashes those dimples at you, you knew. You knew you couldn’t go on being mad at him. You were being silly, you were friends and Harry was bound to go out with other girls. And of course it was no surprise that girls would like him back. After all, he was Harry. Your cheeky, charming, and ever-so-handsome best friend.
“Thanks, Haz.” You smile at him.
And you both knew, all was in the past. Each of you’ve got their best friend back.
