TWO GHOSTS

Chapter Five / Dance With Me Instead. (PART 1)

Don't look over your shoulder, he'll catch you staring.

Your hand gripped a pencil, tracing it over the paper for notes. The classroom is noisy, everyone is doing their own thing. Some were on their phones, others were making bright conversations. You were sitting at your desk, taking notes on the board that your high school teacher had written on the blackboard. He was reading a magazine, not taking control of his chaotic class.

You paused, and without thinking, you glance over your shoulder.

Harry and you make eye contact.

Before you can quickly turn back around, he smiled at you. He smirked with a weak wave. He was the quiet kid in class, keeping to himself--just like you did. This year was new, which meant new students which included the boy you spotted humming in the corner of the room. His name was Harry. For some reason, Harry reminded you of yourself. Which was why you were always wanting to look over your shoulder to him.

Harry was still making eye contact with you.

Surprisingly, he got up. He walked over by the empty desk next to you. You didn't know how to feel, you and him had never talked before. What was there to talk about?

He leaned in toward you, "Why do you suppose the teacher doesn't care for his classroom?"

You replied after a bit of thought, "After years of teaching, I guess he got bored."

Harry looked at you and smiled, "You're American?"

You chuckled, "How could you tell?" You joked, a laugh escaped you and soon after, Harry laughed too.

Now that you think back to it, that's when you knew he wasn't just going to be a boy you talked to during class. After enduring his knock knock jokes, his quirky remarks, and his dorky laugh, you just knew he was going to be important to you. You've been best friends since high school, and suddenly, just last night, he admitted he wanted more.

You quickly put on an outfit before walking into the living room. Harry was still asleep, curled up on the couch. His short hair was a mess, his small snores escaped him. He was shirtless but the blanket tucked him up to his chin. His body rose and fell slowly as you unknowingly admired him.

A knock on the door made you jump, and Harry jerk in his sleep. Harry groaned, "Cut it out."

"Someone's at the door." You say before walking toward the front.

Harry smirked a bit with shut eyes, "WE DON'T WANT ANY." He called toward the door as he snuggled back against the couch. He murmured, "(Y/N), knock knock--"

"It's too early in the morning." You say with a smile.

Harry's deep sleepy voice replied, "It's never too early for knock knock jokes babe."

You opened the door to find Tyler wrapped in a trench coat, his hair in long curls. He looked passed you to Harry sleeping on the couch, but he didn't say anything. The cold weather outside made you shiver, "Come inside." You say. Tyler walked in, still staring at Harry. You shut the door and faced him, "What's up?"

His attention slowly went back to you from Harry, "There's this party tonight and I was wondering if you'd want to go."

"What kind of party-?"

Harry mumbled, "Parties are lame." You caught him smiling with eyes closed.

Tyler ignored his brother. He smiled at you with a cheeky voice, "The typical party filled with drunk people vomiting, girls half nude, and music so loud it might bust your ear drum."

"Sounds obnoxious." You smile at him.

"So you're in?"

"Absolutely." You grin.

Harry called to you and Tyler, "I'm coming as well."

Tyler looked toward his direction, "You just said parties are lame."

"Tyler, where's your humor? I'm a musician, I invent parties." Harry was being sassier than usual.

Before Tyler could snap, you rested your hand on his chest. He looked at you as you said, "Pick us up later, yeah?"

Tyler nodded, "I'll be back around 7 tonight." He hesitated but leaned in, giving you a light kiss on your cheek. The area where his lips met your skin tingled, making you smile. Tyler smiled at you endearingly before walking back into the cold weather.

You lightly touched your cheek, stroking your hand across it with a huge smile. You paused, realizing Harry had already fixed himself so he was sitting on the couch. He was looking at you. You put your hand down, looking away from his direction. Harry looked upset, but he didn't say anything about it. Instead he said, "You haven't gotten any tattoos yet?"

"I never have the time to."

"But you have time for parties?" He looked at you, making you silent. He got up, "Sorry. That was uncalled for." He stood in front of you, trying to make eye contact but you wouldn't give it to him. Harry said softly, "Tyler is more irritating me more than usual. I know you like him back, and honestly, it's killing me. I'm trying to be your number one again--your only one."

You finally stared into his green eyes, "You don't have to be mean."

Harry nodded, "I should know that won't win you over." He smiled at you, "So, we're going to a party...are you following the crowd and going half nude like all the other girls?"

You teased, "You would love that, wouldn't you?"

Harry laughed before walking toward the bathroom.

You said to him with a smile, "You didn't deny it."

Harry squinted his eyes with a cheeky smile, "Huh. Weird." He winked at you, making your face burn. You turned away, "You're an idiot." You said with obvious love.

Harry called toward you before shutting the bathroom door, "I'm your idiot babe."

Ugh, this is soo hard. Harry feels like home. He's warm, a sense of familiarity and warmth. The person that's been right under your nose all this time. But Tyler is exciting, butterfly inducing, like a first crush. He's the guy you know you should probably stay away from but want to know everything about. After this chapter I would say Harry but that school dance ordeal was hella messed up. I know I'd still be angry about it all those years later. Tyler is always there when Harry isn't which is sweet but I think he's more of an after thought to her(me) which will probably cause problems later on. It's like she's asking him to fill H's shoes when he can't be there which is a pretty lofty request and probably makes him feel even worse. Harry could very well be selfish, manipulative in expressing his feelings and Tyler could be genuine. Who knows. I can't say either of them is the better twin at this point. I think we should get to know more about Tyler first. I really wish this sibling rivalry between Harry and Tyler would end though because this "I'm the better twin" stuff is making it hard to choose!
