The End is Approaching [PAUSED]

Twenty-Three - Fear

*Harry’s POV*
*Sunday Night*

“You seem very happy.” I laughed, looking down at Bella, who was cuddling next to me on my bed.

“I am!” Bella squealed happily.

“How come?” I smirked.

“Why I can’t be happy? Do I always have to have a reason?” Bella says, glaring at me.

“Oh no. I didn’t mean it like that. I-“ I stuttered, scared that I might’ve upset her.

“I’m only joking. I do have a reason. Today was absolutely the best! So much fun!” Bella happily says.

“What’d you do?” I questioned her, laughing, as I shook my head.

“I hung out with Destiny. She is literally the greatest!” Bella squealed, again. I tensed at the mention of Destiny’s name. Will I never escape this girl?

With a sigh, I leaned over and kissed Bella’s forehead. “We should get some rest. We got school tomorrow.”

“Oh! But I want to tell you everything we did today!” Bella says, excitedly, daydreaming about her day.

“You can tell me, tomorrow.” I insisted.

“Fine.” Bella nodded, as she went to turn off the bedroom light, and rejoined me in bed.

I feel this blackness come over me. Like a blanket, but not a blanket of warmth but a blanket of coldness making me shiver. But somehow, it's making my eyes feel heavier and heavier. I finally close my eyes finally sending me into a dreamless sleep.

Or so I thought, until I woke up the next morning.

I awoke, eyes slowly coming to focus on the naked bulb above. I was dimly aware of my body being rigid and straight - no movement possible. Pulling my head upward I could see thick straps over my arms and legs. Saliva pooled in the back of my throat and I swallowed, panicked. More saliva came and over and over he drank it down so as not to panic. I twisted my limbs, turning them, feeling the friction of the fabric against my skin.

Suddenly the thick straps unlocked, popping open. I sat up, rubbing my wrists and ankles to release the aching feels I had received from the straps.

Getting off the bed, I walked out in the hallway. I was in a hospital.

The hospital corridor is stuffy and the air has an undertone of bleach. The walls are magnolia and are scraped in places from the hundreds of trolleys that have bumped into them. The pictures on the walls are cheap benign prints of uplifting scenes and above the double doors are large blue plastic signs with the areas of the hospital that lie ahead.

What the hell am I doing here? I thought. I need to get out.

I started down the hallway, looking for a way out. I had travelled far further than the bounds of the hospital halls way, eventually I found my way to a large I run to it hoping it were an exit. The door was the grey of unburnished silver, dull and spotted with years of water damage. Where there should have been some fancy matching handle was only a square shaft of dark cold metal.

I closed my fingers around it to twist but they simply slipped over the coarse edges and came away blackened.

Suddenly my surroundings had changed. I was no longer in the white hallways of an hospital, but a dark labyrinth. Every direction I looked, the passageways stretched as far as I could see. It was as if it grew with every step I took. The darkness of the night seemed to had eaten up all my fear and used them as fuel.

Looking around, running in every which direction praying for a way out I found an old man at the end of one of the pathways.

The old man had a fringe of grey-white hair around his balding, mottled scalp. He had a wizened face and a back slightly hunched. With each movement, there was the creak of old bones. He had the resigned look of one who knows that at his age life has stopped giving and only takes away.

“Sir! Sir! Please, sir. I need help. I need to get out. I need to get out of this labyrinth. Tell me how. Please, sir.” I begged him.

“It's not life or death, the labyrinth. Suffering. Doing wrong and having wrong things happen to you. That's the problem.” The old man replies, mysteriously.

“What?” I asked, confused.

“I talking about the pain, not about the living or dying. How do you get out of the labyrinth of suffering, you ask?” The old man continued, “The only way out of the labyrinth of suffering is to forgive.”

“Forgive? Forgive who?” I thought outload, looking down for answers. “But, sir? Who do I forgive?”

When I looked back up, the old man had disappeared. I looked around, twisting and turning my head to see where he could’ve disappeared to.

“Harry!” A familiar voice cried out to me. “Harry! Please! Harry!”

“Destiny? Destiny! I’m coming! Where are you?” I called back, running towards the voice.

“Here Harry! Come quick! Please!” Destiny sobbed.

“I’m coming! Just stay where you are!” I screamed, speeding down the passageways, which were now flooded with water. The floor below my feet lay below an inch high of water, sickly green-brown like the river, carrying dirt.

“Harry! Faster! Please!” Destiny cried out.

“I’m coming! I’m swear! Just hold on!” I called back, desperately looking for her, throwing open each door I encountered, in hopes she may in there.

Finally, at the end of the hallway, there she was, soaking wet. Destiny was standing in the middle of a flooded room, soaked form heat to toe, sobbing.

“Save me.” She says, staring at me through pleading eyes.

“Save you from what, Destiny?” I asked her frantically, looking around the room to see if there was someone else there, holding her hostage.

“Save me.” She repeated as silent tears dripped down her face.

“From what? What is it? Is there someone here? What happened?” I asked, worried, cupping her facing mine. “What’s wrong, Destiny? Tell me, please.”

“Harry. Save me. Please.”

I wake up faster than a cat in ice-water, every sense urging me to claw my way to standing. Drowsiness get's folks’ dead, fast. Only the paranoid survives. I was awakened by a loud scream. A scream of hysteria and disbelief, bordering on terror.

“Did you hear that?” Bella whined, she was awakened by the scream as well. “It came from next door.”

“Destiny.” I say, without thinking.

“Oh my gosh!” Bella cries out, “Is she okay? We have to go check.”

“It’s probably just a nightmare about pickles. Nothing to worry about.” Harry assured her, knowing that was complete bull.

“Nightmare about pickles? With that loud scream?” Bella questioned me, narrowing her eyes at me. “Harry, have you gone mad. That was no pickle nightmare.”

“It’s probably just a nightmare.” I shrugged, looking out my window, only to see the closed curtains of the Baker’s guest room.

“Harry, you and I both know it’s something more serious. I’m going to call her.” Bella insisted. Just then Mum burst into the room.

“Did you two hear that? Something’s wrong.” Mum whispered, “Oh, Bella don’t call her. It might just make things worse.”

“Worse? Do you know what happened?” I asked.

“No, but come look out the window.” Mum says, motioning for us to follow. Immediately we both got out of our beds and went to the kitchen window, which gave us a clear view of the Baker’s front lawn. Dad was already there, looking out.

“Naturally, I would be there. helping them.” Dad says, as he stares out the window through narrowed eyes.

“I don’t think they want the help.” Mum says quietly.

We watched as the lights got all flipped on, and in five minutes of the scream Owen came rushing into the house. Ten minutes after, they carried a blanket covered Destiny into the back seat of their car.

“What happened over there?” Dad says, staring at them carefully.

We watched as the car drove off, with Mr. and Mrs Baker in the front and Owen in the back with Destiny, going off to god knows where.

“Do you think Destiny’s sick?” Bella suggested.

“Why would she be sick?” Dad thought.

“Why wouldn’t she be?” Bella shot back.

“What is going on in that family?” Mum says, fearfully.

Reluctantly, everyone went back to bed, most likely thinking about the thousands of viable reasons that Destiny would scream like that. Which then in return, would cause the Bakers would drive off that fast. And why was Destiny covered with that huge blanket? But all I could think about was my dream. What the hell was that all about?

I fell asleep thinking of the last words Destiny spoke to me before I woke up, “Harry. Save me. Please.”

Save her from what? Why does she even need saving in the first place? What happened?

I awoke to soft sheets, and the morning light trickled in through the blinds. Shedding myself of the remaining glimpses of a dream, my eyes were still shut as I soaked in the warmth of my covers before letting my green eyes see the sun's rays.

Rolling over to see the lump, that was Bella, I twirled her hair in my fingers, “Good Morning, Baby.” I whispered.

“Mhmm,” Bella moans, her hair covering her face.

She pushes aside her hair, rubs her eyes and looks up at me with a sleepy smile. I froze, “Destiny?”

“Yeah?” Destiny moans, “What is it Harry?”

“What – What are you doing here?” I asked, utterly confused.

“What are you talking about? You asked me to come here yesterday. Remember, you were having weird dreams and you’re kinda losing your memory lately. You okay? Should I call a doctor?” Destiny says, pulling her eyebrows together as she looked at me confused.

“Losing my memory?”

“Yeah. It started this summer, shortly after we got back together. Remember? Well you don’t obviously, ‘cause you just asked.”

“We got back together?”

“Yeah, baby. That night, you came over to place to talk to me. Dad hurt you bad. Thank god, I stepped in before he could make things worse, or else god knows what would’ve happened. I forgave you that night. And we got back together. And everything was alright.” Destiny explained, sitting up next to me, as she played with the collar of my shirt.

“Really?” I asked. Knowingly a large smile spread across my smile, but just as fast as it came, it left. “What about the next day?”

“See, one would think you’d never forget that day,” Destiny smiled.

“What? Why?” I asked, my eyes narrowed.

“First time we had sex, babe.” Destiny smiles, biting down on her bottom lip.

“You’re joking, right?” I asked her, shocked, as I watched her lips. Her lips were a pale pink that reminded me of a rose bud. The top lip was thinner, but not too thin, and it had a natural cupid's bow; the bottom one was larger and more plush.

Destiny laughed, “It’s amazing, I’ve told you this, probably a hundred times. Same shocked reaction each time.”

“Well, lots to be shocked about. I don’t believe you. Not at all.” I declared, with a smirk, as I watched her eyes.

“Want me to prove it, to you?” Destiny smirked, biting her bottom lip.

Oh god, that’s so sexy, I thought. “Be my guest.” Destiny laughed, as she sat herself on my lap.

Though her lips were beautiful, it was the fell of them that sent my mind into a sensual state of intoxication. I reached toward her face, touched them lightly before I let the urge to kiss her take over. As we kiss, flashbacks and lost memories float back to me.

I walk up the path to Destiny’s front door, with flowers in my hand. “This is the last day, Harry. Make it worth it. Make her come back.” Breathing in, and out several times, I finally brought myself to knock on the door.

After some time, Mr Baker opened the front door, who seemed surprised to see me.

“Mr Baker. Hi. Can I talk to Destiny, please?” I quickly ask, in the politest way possible. Without warning, Mr Baker’s surprised expression transformed into a face full of anger and despair. “Mr Baker?” Was I could say.

The next thing I knew, his rough hands grabbed onto my shirt before he slammed me into the wall.

“Who do you think you are? Hurting my daughter like this!” He screams at me, before slamming me against the wall, again. I see Destiny freeze in her footsteps. She has her hair up, in a mess. Her cheeks are stained with the tears running through her makeup, and her mascara has clearly smeared around her eyes. But, somehow, she still looks so fucking beautiful.

“Destiny, I love you,” I say, through the pain. She just stares at me.

“Don’t you say that her! Don’t you say that to my daughter! You’re a pathetic waste of trash, and we would be so much better off without you! SHE would be so much better off without you!” Mr Baker screams, punching me in my shoulder. I do my best to hold my own, to not cry out like a child but he’s a strong man. He knows how to throw punches, he knows to defend his family against a fucking scum like me. It took everything thing in me not to fight back, that wouldn’t do my situation with Destiny any good.

I can’t lose her, I just can’t. I try my hardest not to cry, and I don’t. But my face is twisting in pain and hurt, I can feel my skin flushing, turning a dark shade of red. I can feel sweat beading on my forehead before trailing down my face.

“Dad! Dad, stop! Dad, enough!” Destiny cries out, as he slams me against the floor.

Everything was burning. Everything was turning red, things were spinning, and my back felt as if it was on fire. “Let him go!” She cries again, coming to my side, as she helped me up.

“Destiny, go to the room, now! I don’t want you to have to see him anymore. Even if it's in this condition – the condition he deserves.” He spat at me, staring at me, as I held on to Destiny for all the support I could get.

‘No crying. No crying.’ I have to show Destiny I can still be a man, I have to prove to her, that I’m worth her love, that I’m worth her time, that I love her.

“Destiny, please. Please, forgive me. I’ll do anything, anything to make it up to you. I love you. Please. Give me another chance. You won’t regret it, I swear! Please let me back in.” I pleaded, through the pain, holding on to her hands tightly.

“Shut the hell up!” His voice shook the house like an earthquake. For once, in my entire life, I was scared, terrified like a fucking child.

“Dad! No! Don’t you dare. I’ll take care of him. Just go upstairs. Please.” Destiny begged him, through her tears.

“Destiny!” Mr Baker shouted at her angrily.

“Mum …” Destiny pleaded for her mother’s help, crying.

“David, come. Destiny, go, come straight back home.” Mrs Baker assured her.

“Harry, let’s go,” Destiny told, pulling my arms around her so she could carry me more easily.

“Destiny, please. You have to forgive me. Please, Destiny.” I pleaded her again. “I don’t know what else to do. I’ve done everything. The flowers … the flowers. They were back in the house, I brought them, for you,” I say trying to go back to get her the flowers.

“Harry, stop..” She says, tugging me towards me house carefully.

“Destiny. Listen to me. Please. I can’t lose you. Listen to me. Please.” I begged her, as I cupped her face trying to get her to look at me. We were standing in front of my door.

“Harry, shh.” Destiny says, looking over my bruises. “Just apply some cold ice to that. Its not too bad that you need to go to the hospital or anything. Don’t do anything stupid, and run around. Just rest.”

“Destiny! I don’t care about that! Tell me you love you. Tell me you aren’t going anywhere.”
“I love you,” Destiny says.

“What?” I say, expecting her to walk away or tell me no.

“I love you. I’m not going anywhere. I’m here, now aren’t I?”

“Yeah.”

“Let me take care of you, come on.”

“How about your dad?”

“He is way out of his mind. I’ll talk to him later.” Destiny says, trying to pull me into my house.

“Wait Destiny.” I stop her, grabbing her arm and pulling her close to me. “Are we good?”

“Yeah.” She smiles at me. I smile back, and lean in for a kiss, but she dodges it, “But you gotta promise not to pull something like that again. I don’t like being used, Harry.”

“You have my word, baby.” I swore.

“Good.” She nods, giving me a peck on my lips before pulling away, “Now, let me fix you. Your face is a mess.”

My reach reached under her soft black hair, below her ear, as my thumb caressed her soft cheek.

Destiny’s hand works their way around my body, feeling each crevasse, each line. She lies on her back as I match her body's form. My hands ventured over her curved body, exploring. We pull apart and open our eyes.

“I love you,” I tell her.

A smile formulates on her face, “I love you, too.”

We stumbled into the room, kissing passionately. In the room that is twilight and shadow, I stood close enough to Destiny for me to breathe in her scent. My arms wrapped around her back, and in one gentle pull our skin touches.

I feel my hands in her hair. I loved the softness, as I watched it tumble down when I released it.

“Is this okay?” I asked her, as I watched her eyes shut tight and her bottom lip being bitten down on.

“More than okay.” Destiny breaths out.

I move my hands down her cheekbones to her lips. That’s when the kissing started, and we started to move like partners in a dance that is written in our DNA.

Our bodies fit together, as if we were made just for this, to fall into one another, to feel this natural rhythm.

With a laugh, I lift her right off her feet. Carrying Destiny toward the bed, I let her fall with a soft bounce on the mattress.

We lock eyes for just a moment, just enough for us to feel safe with one another.

Then, I’m all business, undoing her jeans, pulling them off, kissing from her toes upward, slowly. My hands on her legs, always just a little higher than the kisses.

Destiny’s back arches in anticipating, knowing where my fingers will soon reach. Her head rocks back against the pillow, as down mine, the first moan escapes her lips.

I lean in, softly kissing up and down Destiny’s neck. She lets out little whimpers of anticipation.

“Is this okay?” I ask her. Biting her lip, she nods. I start working my way back to her tender, smooth lips.

As we kiss, she rolls me over and lies on top of my body. Destiny runs her lips up my neck, and lands a loving and intense kiss on my lips, before sitting up and slowly pulling off her top.

I watch as the baby blue short sleeve top, comes off to reveal a familiar tanned naked body. The charm of Destiny’s physique stole insensibly upon me. The lines of her body were long, clean and symmetrical. It was a body which occasionally fell into splendid poses. There was no suggestion of the trim, or stereotyped fashion-plate about it.

Just as the top came off to reveal a face, that made me freeze cold and shatter my heart all over again.

“Bella?”

I woke up from a restless sleep due to the rough waves to glimpse at the glowing and radiant sun peaking above the horizon out of my window. It extended its vivid light across the deep crimson sky. Its dazzling and inviting rays flowed through the window providing warmth to my body. Slowly the fatigue of the long journey was seeping out of me as the welcoming rays trickled in to replacing my unrest - it relaxed my body.

Slowly I got up, and sat myself on the edge of my bed, propping myself up with my arms on both sides of me, as my head hung down.

“Good morning, sleepyhead. Get dressed we’re going to be late for school.” Bella says, all ready from the door way as she throws me my uniform shirt, tie and pants.

The dreams from last night were nearly all erased, as I gave Bella a small smile and stumbled into the bathroom getting ready for another day.
