Guilty Pleasures

[ let’s ruin the friendship ]

✿ Part 2 ✿

I’m awaken by a few shoves of my shoulder, a gentle touch now trailing down my arm. A soft curve shapes on my mouth but not enough for her to notice I’m sure. I can easily feel the dull sharpness of her nails as they pinch the skin covering the bend of my arm. Despite knowing she’s awake and probably not completely alright, I pretend to ignore her.

“Ni, please wake up.” Daisy’s faint voice spoke aloud, the desperation clear in her tone, as well as the slight bit of fear.

Shortly after realizing that her small plea was not going to get me up, she makes another attempt. Her palm spreads over my abdomen, her skin is so soft against mine - I would never be able to get enough of that feeling.

“Niall.. Wake up.” Daisy tries once more, her voice closer this go around though.

I stir lightly, falling onto my back on the couch so that her hand could effortlessly touch against my body. Immediately I want to groan out in denial as she removes her small hand from my stomach. But before I could ponder on how to respond to that cruel movement of hers, she returns her lovely touch - but this time to my face. Her entire little hand is cupping the left side of my face, or at least trying to.

“Please, Ni. I can’t sleep.” She whispers, her words rolling straight into my ear - that warm breath crashing over the skin on my neck. God, I didn’t realize she was that close to me - oh how I love it when she does that.

“Hmm?” I reply to her finally, probably just what she expected, too.

A gasp leaves her mouth quickly as she shakes my body with her other hand before wrapping it around my bicep. My eyes flutter apart and I can’t help but squint when I come into sudden contact with the light above us. Daisy must have seen this, I figure because she leans over me to block the light, a happy smile plastered on her tired face.

“What time is it, love?” I yawn out, not bothering to put my hand over my mouth out of respect - we’ve been friends for far too long, I know this doesn’t bother her one bit.

“Three.” She murmurs as she goes to stand up, her hands leaving my body unfortunately.

“Why are you up?” I ask with a fake cluelessness to my tone, I don’t want her to realize I was pretending moments ago - she might would go off on me for that silly little trick.

“I can’t sleep, and I’m cold.” Daisy whines out, both of her hands grab my right one. She leans back, trying to pull me up but it doesn’t work at all, despite her using all of her strength.

A sigh escapes her swollen lips as her arms go limp, those tiny hands still clutching onto mine. I decide to ease her of the stress and work, I sit myself up and allow her to guide me off the couch and straight to my bedroom.

Sadly, it isn’t what it seems. When we lie down in this bed we will indeed be underneath the same cover, but we will not sleep like that. Not like we are in a relationship, only as a friendship.

Daisy hurries to the bed and slides herself back under the covers where she had previously been, while I turn off the lamp and shut the door leading to the living room and the bathroom door. I assume she done all she could to get herself to fall back to sleep, yet nothing worked. It’s so amazing to know that I can solve her problem, that I can help her sleep better at night.

It’s obvious that she woke me up instead of calling him..

“Ni, c’mon!” She huffs as she rolls onto her side, facing my side of the bed.

If I were to get technical about things, she’s the one that’s on my side of the bed. But when she’s over I let her rule things, whatever she says goes, and whatever she wants happens. No matter what, she’s my number one priority, her and her precious happiness.

“ ‘m comin’, love. Just a minute.” I say with a faint smile as I pull the covers back and throw myself underneath them.

Before I could get situated in my own bed, that beautiful girl slides on over and grabs a hold of my left hand, lacing our fingers tightly together. A pleased smile rests on her lips when I turn to see her, fully rolling onto my side now. My other hand sits on her waist for a moment. She changes that when she scoots closer to me, causing my hand to fall to the small of her back.

“Goodnight, Ni.” She mutters against my chest, her soft lips brushing my heated skin.

“Goodnight, Daisy.”

✿ ✿ ✿

After violently shaking me from my slumber, Daisy jumps off the bed and runs towards the balcony doors. And if I may add, she’s twirling around dressed in only one of my shirts which is hiding her underwear, and one sock - God only knows how that other one slid off her foot during the night. I squint my eyes in order to see the time on my phone screen - nine in the morning.

“Good morning, sunshine!” She says joyfully as she pulls the curtains from the windows before slinging the doors open, leading herself out onto the balcony. She’s the only morning person I know. Even from our new distance, I can hear her laugh out in utter awe. “Niall!” She loudly gasps from the balcony, catching my full attention now, “Ni! You have to c’mere!”

I do not verbally reply to her, instead I stand from my bed, in only my briefs, and head towards the opened doors, ready to join her at any moment. She spins around and smiles brightly as she sees that I have appeared in the doorway. There is a boldness in her sparkling eyes, that always tells me that she’s super excited about something, God only knows what. The simplest things make her heart flutter and fly around in her chest, for instance seeing a wild flower on the edge of the road. She’s so kind hearted, so pure.

“Look what I found.” Her eyes widen as she hurries over to the small patio set, to the chair that I can only see the back of.

Daisy returns to me just seconds later, her hands cradling a little ball of fluff. Her eyes nervously dart to mine before looking back down at the animal in her hands. She parts her lips to speak, and automatically I know she’ll convince me to keep this thing.

“Ni, it’s all alone. Gosh, how did it even end up here!” She asks me, slightly confused, while taking a seat.

I follow her and do the same, sitting beside her on the bench that she insisted me to purchase. This girl could convince me of anything, I swear, even murder. I’d do anything I have to in order to keep her happy. The animal probably made its way up here thanks to the fire escape but I guess I could be wrong.

“Daisy, you can’t have pets in your-” I couldn’t even finish my statement, she interrupts and I definitely don’t stop her.

“I know Niall, that’s why it can stay with you. Please! I’ll help you take care of it.” Daisy pokes her bottom lip out, battling those thick lashes at me.

Of course my heart caves in and I nod lightly to her, a sigh slipping out as well. She grins wide at me and sits the kitten on her lap before reaching over with extended arms, wrapping them around me as good as she can in this position.

“You’re the best, Ni!” She whispers in my ear a moment before her lips peck my lobe - something she does all the time, and I do it as well.

I guess one would say it’s our thing. I wonder if she has a thing with him.

✿ ✿ ✿

The day has flew by pretty quickly, it’s nearing four in the afternoon. I took Daisy to the closest pet store and I bought a few things to accommodate the kitten. At first I was not up to dragging myself to the store all for some stray, but that only made my lovely girl livid with me - something I couldn’t handle. So of course, she got her way and a few hours later, I’m putting together a litter box.

“Ni, what if it’s a boy?” Daisy asks as she sits beside me on the kitchen tiles, folding her legs over one another.

I give her a quick glance before sitting the finished piece of plastic furniture down beside the matching pink and white striped food and water bowls. For a second I contemplate on what she brings up.

“Well.. if we can ever find out.. I’ll just buy it a blue litter box and blue bowls. How does that sound?” I ask, throwing my head over so that I could see her pretty face.

Those eyes meet mine instantly and she brightly smiles at me, giving me a slight eye roll as a joke. Daisy’s hands are caressing the kitten in her lap, her head soon drops so that she could observe the little creature.

“Have you decided on a name, love?” I question with a gentle chuckle, she’s been thinking about this all day long and still has nothing she likes.

Her forefinger taps against her chin as she stares up at the ceiling, pondering what I asked her. She sighs out as she runs her hand through her locks, pushing them away from her face. With another exhausted huff, she drops her hands to the lap and lifts up the kitten so that they are eye to eye.

“How about Days?” She insists, looking at me from the corner of her eye.

Immediately my brain and heart both protest her words, “Darlin’, that’s what I call you.” I remind her of this obvious thing - she’s quite ignorant for suggesting that name. It’s special for us, she even told me that herself.

“I know, I just.. Have no ideas.” Her shoulders slump and she sits the kitten on the floor, releasing it so that it can roam free for a little while - and it does just that.

“Do you like.. Remi?” Daisy proposes the idea and I have to say that I like it more than some of the other names she has said throughout the day, all of which she tossed in the trash herself.

“I do, it’s cute.” I nod lightly, sending a smile her way.

“Good! Remi it is then!” She claps her hands together excitedly before standing up from the floor, soon extending her small hand out towards me, in which I gladly take a hold of it.

She isn’t the strongest woman in the world, so I help her out by basically doing all the work and pushing myself to my feet. She giggles when her body falls against mine, gosh she’s such a clumsy little thing.

“I don’t wanna go home yet.” Daisy mumbles into my chest, her forehead pressed against me.

While my fingers comb through her hand, my other hand touches the small of her back, the warmth setting a fire over my skin. I lean my chin carefully on the top of her head, my eyes falling shut in concentration. The only thing I seem to be able to focus on is the way she smells, the way she’s in my arms, the way she’s just so perfect in every single way. God, what would I be without her? Just another lifeless body, waste of space.

At first, I held a heavy desire to beg her to stay the night again but it’s not a good idea at all. She has class early tomorrow and she needs to rest well tonight. When we’re together we order take out of some sort, stay up until midnight watching cartoons or movies we’ve seen hundreds of times, and we sleep until lunch most days. Daisy needs her physical and mental rest for the night, she doesn’t need to be overworked too many days in a row.

“You know you have that test tomorrow, love.” I remind her of this important chapter test she has been studying her ass off for, but she doesn’t seem to care as she shakes her head in disbelief.

“I’ve read the stuff twenty times. I know it pretty well.” She claims, sighing heavily afterwards.

Of course I don’t want her to leave me and our new pet, but she has to. She doesn’t need to be with me another night. In a weird, odd way, I’m no good for her - but I know I’m better for her than he will ever be.

“Days, you can’t.. You know how we get.. And you need your rest.” I deny her of her wants, even though it hurts me down to my soul to do so.

“But Ni, I-” The abrupt ringing of a cell phone breaks out conversation, her cell phone.

She and I sadly part, her body leaving my embrace. She hurries over to the couch where her phone sits and she answers it, not wasting a second of the short time. Her face lights up and a smile spreads across her rosy lips - giving me all the reason to believe that he’s on the other line.

“Hey!” She gladly says into the phone, her eyes staring down at her feet, those pink painted toe nails.

With a small gulp, I pick up the kitten and head towards the bedroom. I don’t any desire at all to hear what she and her friend have to say with each other. It honestly makes me nauseous to overhear what they discuss, even if I only hear what she says. I guess it’s the fact that she says things like that to him instead of me.

My heart would never allow me to show any hatred towards that girl - if she’s happy with him then I’m content with it. She deserves better, I will never not believe that, but still I know she wants that - so I’ll let her live it. At least until she gets tired of it, then I’ll be waiting like I have been for the past ten years.

Patient and quiet.

Even with the door closed, I can hear her cheerful voice speak to him through the phone. I sit down on the edge of the bed, holding the cat up to my face. It meows at me a few times, it’s actually pretty cute.

“At least we have you.” I mumble to the kitten before easily putting it onto the floor.

It scurries away, heading straight to a dirty shirt that is laying on the floor. I watch the cat tumble and bounce on the fabric, the smallest laugh leaves my mouth. I'm actually quite happy that she discovered the kitten, I've already grown very fond of it. A

t least we have something.
