Coffee?

Chapter 5

*2 days later*
Ash POV:
I stood behind the counter waiting eagerly for Dahlia to head through the door. It's 9:04am and she still hasn't arrived for her daily dose of caffeine. It's Monday morning, meaning she needs it. I was serving an old woman, she was a regular here. She had ordered a white coffee with a huge smile on her face. As I went to tell her the price, I heard the bell above the door ding. I looked over at Dahlia as she strolled through the door looking as beautiful as ever.
"Stop staring, it just makes your obsession more pathetic" said the elderly woman across the counter, chuckling. I quickly looked down at the counter, my cheeks burning. With a cough and a small laugh I muttered
"$3.21 and I'm not obsessed."
"Here you are, darling" she said, handing me the exact change.
"It'll be right with you, next!"
-- Dahlia POV:
"The usual?" Ash said with his usual delightful smile, as I stepped up to the counter.
"Actually.. I'm gonna change it up a bit!"
"Oh alright, what can I do for ya?"
"An..." I pause while I looked through the menu, I need something strong.
"Espresso macchiato, please."
"Sure thing, anything else?"
"Look at you, acting very professional."
"Pfft, me ? I'm always professional." Ash exclaimed sarcastically.
"That's all thanks, Ash."
"It's Ashton, when I'm working!" He replied jokingly.
"Alright Ashton, see ya round" I exclaimed as I heard another woman call my name.
------ Later that day -----
Dahlia POV:
I fumbled around with my keys, trying desperately to unlock the door before I dropped all my work on the floor. I let out a sigh of relief as I kicked the door of my apartment open and laid my folders down on the table. I slid my converse off my feet and I took off my pink cardigan and threw it at the coffee table. "Mila!" I yelled, wondering if she's home yet.
"Mmhmm, one second!" I heard coming from her bedroom. Soon enough the door swung open and there she was, dressed in denim shorts and a simple red crop top. "Party!" She exclaimed.
"On a Monday, no way"
"No dumbo, on Friday obviously, so don't plan any dates and find yourself a nice outfit."
"Okay, will do" I said, not in the mood to talk myself out of this party.
"Yay!" She squealed, clapping her hands in excitement. "You never know, that boy you're obsessed with might be there!"
"Obsessed? With Ashton?
No" I said, defending myself.
"Ah ha ! You knew who I meant and I didn't even have to say his name!"
"No! You know what? Screw you!" I say, jokingly. Maybe I can force Ashton to come with, which could perhaps make the whole college party experience slightly less difficult for me.
Ash POV:
Calum and I sit on the couch. I'm forcing him to watch the 'Pursuit of happyness' for what is mostly likely the seventh time this year. I'm starting to feel really emotional when all of a sudden I feel my phone vibrate in my pocket. I take it out and see I have a text message from Dahlia. I open it up and read it to myself.
'Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to come to party with me and Mila on Friday night? I'm totally dreading it, but you being there might calm my anxiety just a tad. You can bring Calum if you want! I hope you can come (if you don't want to I totally get it) :) -D'
I smile, reading the part about me calming her anxiety again. I look up at Calum who's giving me a strange look.
"Either you just hacked my tinder or you're talking to that girl you told me about when I wasn't really listening." He says pausing the film.
"It's the latter, you twat. Anyway, you're coming to a party with us on Friday. Her names Dahlia, in case you were interested in the slightest."
"I wasn't and I'm good thanks." God, he is the most stubborn person ever.
"She has a very single and very good looking roommate who's going to be coming too, but if you're not joining us, then I guess you'll never meet her..." I shake my head, faking disappointment. I don't actually care if Calum comes, but I suppose it would be kinda awkward if I was there with just Dahlia and Mila.
"Fine, I'll come. But you owe me!" Calum says, pretending like I'm not doing him a favour.
"Don't act like you aren't buzzing inside Calum Thomas Hood!"
"Whatever."
I reply to Dahlia, letting her know that we'll be there and she texts back with the details. Why do I feel like a twelve-year-old who's just been invited to the school disco by their date?
