Chapter 2: A New Neighbor (Ann’s P.O.V.)
I’m not sure what I was expecting from an 8 ½ hour plane ride, but it wasn’t that. I had been planning to take a nap on the plane so that I would be all refreshed when we landed. Instead, I did the total opposite; I was wide awake. No matter what I did, I couldn’t sleep.
So now, I felt like a zombie as we mounted the steps of the little apartment building. Don’t get me wrong, I am beyond thrilled to be in London, I was just so tired. I watched Taylor, she didn’t look much better than I did. I knew exactly what we were going to be doing first: trying out our new beds.
Harry turned the key and we all filed in one at a time. The place was definitely smaller than our place back in Florida. Taylor and I sat down our things and walked around. This was going to be our home away from home for a next few months. Louis and Harry had invited the both of us to stay in London as a graduation present. They offered to pay for everything so that we could have a chance to travel. This had only gotten into their heads because Taylor had finally started her saving jar for the different countries and cities that were on her bucket list. London just happened to be one of them.
“So,” Louis asked coming up behind me, “What do you think?”
“It’ s a little small, but it will do.” I spun around and planted a kiss on his cheek. He smiled as he hugged me, “I’m glad.”
Harry and Taylor were looking out the window, her eyes shining brightly as she looked out over the city. That was one thing, this place may be small, but the view was amazing.
“Well,” Harry started as he turned to Louis and me. “I guess we should let you girls get settled in. We need to go check in with the guys, but we will see you guys tomorrow for your first surprise.”
A smile was covering his entire face. I looked up to see that Louis had a nearly identical one on his face. What were they planning?
Louis gave me a quick kiss on the lips as Harry did the same for Taylor. It was only a minute later that Taylor and I were standing in our new apartment by ourselves, dreading the lengthy unpacking we had ahead of us.
“What do you think they are up?” I asked her.
She shrugged, “I’m not sure. And I don’t know whether I should be excited or terrified.”
I nodded in agreement as I grabbed my suitcase and headed for one of the bedrooms. I had just made in the doorway when I heard a knock at our front door.
“I got it,” Taylor said as she crossed from the window. I decided to let her have it anyway as I continued into my new room. I lazily heaved my suitcase onto the bed. I needed to get my clothes put away in the dresser and/or closest before I passed out for the rest of the day. If not, I knew that I would living out of my suitcase at least till I had to do laundry.
“Hey Ann,” Taylor was in my doorway. “It’s one of our new neighbors. She came over to say hi.”
I walked out to see a tall, think girl about our age with long, light brown hair. She had a warm smile across her face and held a small bag in her hands.
“Welcome to the building.” She smiled to me as she came over and offered me her hand, “My name is Rebecca. I live across the hall in 2A.”
I returned her warm smile, “Hi, I’m Ann.”
She looked between the two of us for a moment before going, “Oh!” and holding her hands out toward Taylor. “I almost forgot about this. I wasn’t expected any new neighbors so I didn’t have anything special made for you. I hope this tea is okay for now.”
Taylor accepted the tea, “This is fine. Thank you.” She brought the bag up to her nose, smelling the herbal mixture. Her eyes closed as a smile crossed her face. I walked closer to her as she placed the bag under my nose. It smelled so earthy and relaxing, but at the same time there was a sweetness to it.
“This smells amazing,” I turned to Rebecca, a smile on her face.
“I’m glad you think so. Wait until you taste it.”
I couldn’t wait. I headed over for the boxes in the kitchen and found a small pot to place on the stove with water in it to boil. Rebecca and Taylor continued talking as I quietly made three mugs of tea. It’s needless to say what we did anything more than sit on the couch and talk for a few hours. Rebecca was great and I was so thrilled that we had met someone so nice so soon.
“So what brings you two to London?”
Her question was innocent enough, but what could we say? Oh we are just dating two of the members of One Direction and they got us this place for the summer? There was no telling what that kind of knowledge would do. I didn’t want to bring more attention to the guys and come to think of it, I wasn’t all that thrilled of getting discovered by the paparazzi either. Lucky for me, Taylor was already on it.
She smiled at Rebecca, “We are here to visit with some friends we met while in college.”
She nodded, “That is so cool! I want to go travelling too.”
“Why don’t you?” I asked, “Take a small vacation or something?”
A sigh left her mouth, “My job won’t let me.”
“What do you do?”
A shy smile crossed Rebecca’s face, “I’m a model.”
“Really?!” I asked as I scooted to the edge of the couch. She shrugged her shoulders at my excitement.
Our conversation continued from there. We learned that Rebecca worked for a fairly new agency in London, but she was one of their stars. We told her that we had just gotten done with college in Florida two weeks before the move. She was so intrigued in our degrees. Taylor and her film dreams and me with music.
It was late before we told Rebecca good night was we both closed our front doors to head to bed for the night. I turned and headed for my room.
“Good night, Taylor.” I said as she stretched going into her new room.
“Night,” she mumbled a reply before disappearing.
I closed my door and sighed as I realized I was going to be living out of a suitcase for a while.
