Our Dance.

“Niall, today is mostly an ordinary day… the sun rose, other people’s babies were born, people slept in and we just so happened to be getting married. The not-so ordinary part is how we are making promises to each other for the rest of our days, no matter how ordinary, aggravating, or unusual they may be. So I promise to you: to always laugh loudly with you and to never go to bed angry; to comfort you in times of sorrow, including rough Derby seasons; and to remember love is saying 'I feel differently' instead of 'you're wrong'; but most of all, I promise to love you, under any circumstances; happy or sad, easy or difficult, through the sunshine and through the rain for the rest of my days,” Evelina promised as she slipped the ring on Niall’s finger.
“Evelina, as I stand here looking in your eyes, I see everything I fell in love with. As I stand here, with my heart beating wildly in my chest, I lose track of where I am at on this page. As I stand here, with this ring in my hand, it makes me think of everything we’ve overcome and how much you really complete my life. It makes me remember all of the many laughs we’ve shared, the beauty of our little girl being born into the world, how you broke my hand and then apologized for it even though you were still in a lot of pain, and I remember the happiness I felt when Wesley called me ‘Daddy’ for the first time. So, I’m giving you the promise of loving you even when it gets rough, never going to bed angry, making you laugh after a hard day at work, sitting together and drink wine while watching Disney movies after the kid’s go to bed because we are secretly not much mature than they are. I promise to take you on spontaneous adventures, even when it feels we don’t have the time to. I promise to always make sure you get the ‘me-time’ you deserve, even when the kids drive us both crazy. I promise to protect you, cherish you, and love you. With this ring, I let the world know that I chose you for eternity, until death do us part,” Niall said, slipping the ring on Evelina’s finger.
Niall’s paper had absolutely nothing on it, except scribbles, which meant his dad was quickly writing everything Niall said on paper.
“Do you, Evelina Mayer, take Niall Horan to be your lawfully wedded husband?” the preacher asked, making Evelina smile.
“I do,” she said.
“Do you, Niall Horan, take Evelina Mayer to be your lawfully wedded wife?”
“I do,” he said.
“You may now kiss your bride,” the preacher said.
They didn’t waste any time, which made the audience laugh. No one could deny the love they had for one another, especially after they revealed at their reception before the toasts that they were expecting twins. Niall and Evelina were excited about it, except the part of having a 7-year-old, 2-year-old, and 2 newborns.
Plans are always meant to be changed though, right? Niall and Evelina were going to stop following those two, but things got in the way like they did for the wedding that got postponed 2 years, which prevented them from having the appropriate surgery to make it where she could no longer get pregnant- which resulted in one more baby.
They had five children now. Wesley Luke Sutter who was 10, Erin Kayleigh Horan who was 5, Jordan James and Lillian Maura Horan who were 3, and now Ross Cathal Horan.
Evelina didn’t have an easy delivery with Ross. It was long, and it almost killed her. Wesley understood what was going on, which caused problems.
“Wesley, love,” Evelina said as she went into the attic- also known as Wesley’s room.
“Go away, Mum. I’m doing homework,” he said.
“Homework can wait, baby, your father and I need to talk to you,” she said.
They were then shown that it did affect Wesley’s love for his brother. As soon as Ross turned three though, that hatred went away because Ross had Wesley wrapped around his fingers, along with his other four siblings.
“Mom!” Wesley yelled, making Evelina smile as he ran down the stairs.
“Yes, baby?” she asked as he reached the kitchen, where she was trying to enjoy her morning coffee.
“Does this look stupid?” he asked, his voice cracking.
Wesley was now fourteen and hit puberty last year, meaning his voice was cracking constantly.
“Well, you’re in middle school, so you tell me. Do you think it looks stupid?” she asked.
“Well, no, but you aren’t in middle school, so you are supposed to tell me,” he said, making Evelina laugh.
“If you don’t think it looks stupid, then it doesn’t look stupid,” she said.
In reality, Evelina thought the outfit was horrendous, but she would never tell her son that. She wanted him to be independent, and that meant rocking stupid outfits during middle school.
Evelina loved every aspect of her family, even if it was dysfunctional and people told her that she had way too many children. She loved every single one of them and have no regrets about it.
Life just goes too fast sometimes though, because one day they are five and think you are the world and then you blink and they are eighteen and packing up to leave for college. You blink again and they are married.
It’s funny how life works like that? How you have children and it’s like every time you blink they reach a new milestone?
Evelina and Niall both have high hopes for their children and themselves, and they fought sometimes, but at the end of the day they were husband and wife with five beautiful children, and they both got their well-waited happily ever after.
