30. She's Arrived

It came on such short notice. I was walking down the stairs when the first one hit, making me scream in pain.
My mom immediately ran towards me, making sure I didn’t fall.
“Please tell me it’s time,” she said, excitement clear in her voice.
“Definitely. It’s time,” I said, breathing in-and-out.
My mom ran upstairs as I waddled and slipped on my Chacos. We knew how quick Wesley came, so we had about 30 minutes to get to the hospital and it’s 12 PM in Los Angeles.
“I called Niall. Him and your father are leaving the store now,” she said.
“Wesley,” I reminded her as we walked to the car.
“Shit,” my mom cursed, which would have made me laugh at any other time.
She got me in the car before throwing the bag in the back and running inside. About two minutes earlier, she ran out with Wesley’s shoes in one hand and she was carrying a sleeping five-year-old. She quickly buckled him in and then ran to the driver’s seat.
We pulled off in a hurry and Mom was on the phone with Cooper as she was driving with the emergency flashers on so we could be in the emergency lane.
After about 15 minutes, an officer saw us and turned on his blue lights.
My mom immediately dialed 911.
“This is 9-1-1. What is your emergency?”
“I am just calling to inform the officer behind me on SR 60 that my daughter is in the car with me and she is in labor. I am driving a Honda Pilot,” she said, right on cue a contraction hit, making me scream in agony.
“Yes, miss. We will inform the officer in your area,” dispatch said.
“Thank you.”
A minute later, the officer flashed his blue lights.
“He has just now told us to tell you to continue. You are getting a police escort,” the dispatcher said.
“Alright. Thank you very much,” Mom said.
We then avoided all traffic, but it probably looked like a chase and not a police escort.
We arrived to the hospital in record time. My mom immediately ran inside as I unbuckled my seatbelt.
As soon as I opened my door, I was gotten out and put into a wheelchair.
“Mom, don’t forget Wesley!” I said, making her nod as I was wheeled in.
Shortly after I was put into a room, Niall came running in.
“I shut down the shop for the day. Your dad and I are both here. Your dad kind of drove. I was too nervous,” Niall explained, making me laugh.
I immediately stopped when a contraction hit. I grabbed Niall’s hand and squeezed, making him whimper in pain.
“Damn. How strong have you gotten?” he asked.
“Don’t you even start complaining about being in pain!” I yelled, squeezing harder.
“Ah. My favorite part of my job is what woman in labor says to the man,” the nurse said as she walked in.
I squeezed harder as the pain grew and we heard a crack making Niall yelp.
“I think you just broke my hand!” Niall said.
As the contraction ended, I gasped.
“Did I really?” I asked, examining it.
The nurse then came in and examined it before she started busting out laughing.
“You just broke his hand!” she said.
She then checked my dilation- which was at 5 cm- before running out and getting something to wrap his hand with.
Niall went to the bag that was resting on the couch that Niall was going to sleep on and pulled out the stress ball we had packed- just in case.
When the nurse came back in, she wrapped his hand and then checked me again. In that short amount of time, I had gone up ½ a cm.
“You are dilating really quickly!” the nurse commented.
“I had my first one in 2 and a half hours,” I said, right as a contraction hit.
Unfortunately, this one took a little longer. Erin took 3 and a half hours to make an appearance into the world. Niall was able to cut the umbilical cord.
“Congratulations, you have a girl,” the doctor said.
With my request, they towel wiped the amniotic fluid, blood, and meconium from her body, but did not bathe her.
I had learned that waiting at least 24 hours postpartum to bathe will help increase her immunity to things such as grade B strep. They weighed her and tested her before handing her to me, and cleaned me up while they did.
I immediately snuggled her, smiling.
“Hi, baby,” I whispered, rubbing her head.
Niall just stared at her with awe.
“Here, babe, hold her,” I said, handing her to him.
Niall carefully held her, like if he moved she would break.
“Hi, princess,” he whispered.
I pulled out my phone, which was on the bedside beside me, and took a picture.
Soon, after we were through with our moment, I told Niall to go get Wesley. So, he did.
“Momma, is this my baby sister?” he asked, making me smile.
“It sure is, buddy,” I said.
He immediately kissed her forehead.
Soon, following Wesley, we brought Niall’s and my parents in here, then Cooper, Rachel, Greg, Denise, Louis, Eleanor, and Angelina, before we brought my grandparents in here, and then everyone else (like the great aunts, friends, cousins, etc.).
“Niall, Evelina, you did good,” my dad said, making everyone laugh.
“Oh, she’s precious,” Denise said.
Niall had filled out her door hanger and stuck it on the door, letting the whole hospital know that she was born.
As everyone fawned over our child, my heart swelled at all the love that my daughter was receiving. Today wasn’t a sad day, and I was thankful for that. My daughter has so many who love and care for her.
After she was born, Niall and I decided to get back onto social media. We let comments happen again on our Instagram posts, which mostly consisted of pictures of our little girl.

Erin Kayleigh, my whole world and definitely has everyone wrapped around her finger… #BabyHoranishere
This time, we knew that #BabyHoranishere trended number 1 for a few days.
Fans didn’t realize we were back on Twitter though until I tweeted something no one was expecting.
@EvelinaHoran: #BabyHoranishere and I might be biased, but she’s pretty damn cute.
