Behind the glasses

High school cafeterias are chaotic. Especially on Mondays. Although all the jocks and cheerleaders eat out, they always return here, because the cafeteria is the social buzz this period.
I take my seat next to Mary.
"Well...late much?" She jokes. "Early much" I mumble. "Early bird gets the chair". She remarks, through a mouthful of spaghetti. I wrinkle my nose. "yeah....thats not entirely right." She points at my salad and water bottle. "That's what you're eating?" She ask. I nod.
We have this conversation literally everyday. "I gotta stay fit for sports". I say, shrugging. "You don't plays ports". "Well maybe.." "No?" I look around. "What?" "Naill Horan. 12 o'clock. Heading this way.." Sure enough, I feel the heat of another human body directly behind me.
"Hello, ladies." He say, smiling. Always the charmer, he was. "Can we help you?" Mary asks. He nods. "Actually, yes. Which one of you is...Addi?" I half raise my hand and he looks ms in the eyes. My heart stops.
"Mr Burner said that maybe you could help me out in Literature?" He asked. I hesitate. Spend time with Naill? Outside of school? "Please." He begs. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad...This could be what I've been waiting for...To finally know why he did it. Why he cheated. "I will get on my knees if that's what it takes." He says. "No! I'll-I'll do it." He smiles. "Thank you! Tomorrow, after school? Library?" I nod. He shoots me his signature golden boy smile and jogs away.
"Oh.My.God." Mary says in disbelif. "What?" I ask." "Naill Horan begging?!You...And you said Yes?!" "I couldn't tell him no, Mary. Besides, It's not that big of a deal. I know him." "Yeah. But he doesn't know you." She says. "Not anymore." I mumble. "What did you ever see in him? I mean, come on! He a pinhead. Jockass. Player...'' "he was sweet and cared about me." I argue. "Yeah. until April." I tense up.
