In The Dark

Brooke’s POV
My phone rang at 8:37 AM. I rolled over and looked at it to see Kayla’s name pop up. Oh no! Is she hurt? Did Ashlyn say something to her? Did she say something to Ashlyn? All these thoughts zoomed around my head as I swiped my finger to the right and placed the phone to my ear.
Me – Kayla? What’s wrong?
Kayla – What’s wrong is that it is my first day back and already you have fallen into the same old routine.
Me – Huh?
Kayla – It’s 8:40 and you overslept, AGAIN. I am outside waiting for you to get your butt out here or so help me god I will come up then and drag you out!
Me – Okay, love you too Kay!
I raced around my room. Shower, clothes, hair, makeup, shoes, bag, teeth. No time for breakfast. Did I mention that last night my uncle left town? Yeah he actually went to…wait for it….drum roll…LAS VEGAS.
I have always wanted to go but there is no way in hell I am going with him so instead I get the whole house to myself. Perfect!
It just so happens that tonight is my date with Connor. Double perfect. It has been almost a week since he asked me out and tonight we are going to a movie then grabbing some dessert or something. I am kind of hoping that he asks me to be his girlfriend but I don’t want to get my hopes up. Kayla told Cassie and I that she is going on a date with Niall soon. That is, if we didn’t ruin everything.

It was cold and rainy outside so I made sure to throw on some warm clothes. I walked outside and saw Kayla standing there just like old times.
“Hey dork” she greeted me. I smiled at her nickname for me.
“Let’s get going before it starts to rain” I commented, looking at the sky. I smiled as we walked.
“Why are you smiling?”
“I dunno. I am just happy” I replied.

*after school*
Ashlyn’s POV
My room is completely packed. My childhood, my memories all stuffed into cardboard boxes. Me and my mom are leaving in two days. I really miss my girls, but going to talk to them will make it all harder. I heard the doorbell ring. A sound that I have never taken much notice of and yet, knowing that this is one of the last times I will hear it makes it sound so much sweeter.
“Hello Ms. Florence. Is Ashlyn here?” I heard a voice which sounded a lot like Brooke.
“Yes. She’s right upstairs” Mom replied. Fuck I forgot to tell her about my not talking to them
“You going somewhere?” I heard that sweet English accent. Ahhh I am going to so miss Kayla. And Brooke and Cassie. Even Connor.
“Didn’t Ashlyn tell you? We’re moving to Sydney” (HINT: for the purpose of this story all of the characters live in London)
“Sydney? As in Sydney, Australia?” Cassie asked in disbelief.
“Yes” Mom replied
“As in kangaroos and vegemite?” Cassie asked
“Yes” my mother chuckled. “Ashlyn is just in her room” Crap. Do I have time to hide?
“Hey Ash” NOPE!
“Hi guys” I mumbled, taping together the last of my boxes.
“Why didn’t you tell us?” Kayla whispered. I think this is going to affect her the most, she always acts like the mother of the group even though she really is the baby of all of us.
“I thought that uh, ignoring you would be easier”
“When are you leaving?” she continued
“Two days”
“So this is it. You’re really moving to Australia?” Cassie whispered, on the verge of tears. Brooke, who still hadn’t said anything walked over to me and wrapped her arms around m slim figure. Cass and Kay joined the group hug as we all cried.
“I know it’s obvious but I’m really gonna miss you” Brooke mumbled into my neck.
“I’ll miss you all too” they didn’t even need to ask why I was leaving. They knew. Which is why I am going to miss them even more.
