It's complicated

"Come on mommy!" Elizabeth begged. "Hold on." I sighed as I got her wheel chair out of the small closet in her hospital room. I picked her unhealthy, sick, light body and gently set her down on the chair. We got onto the elevator. "I'm so excited to met new friends. I never get to leave my room." She beamed. It breaks my heart. "Do you think they will want to be friends with me?" She asked timidly. "Of course. Why wouldn't they?" I wondered. "Because I have no hair. Everyone else does." She said and points to my long hair. "I think they'll love you cause you're adorable, cute and very funny." I smiled and poked her nose as she giggled. It hurts so much to see my 6 year old daughter worry about people not liking her cause she doesn't have hair.

The elevator doors open and we walk into the big room full of people. A couple people stare at us and give us sympathetic looks. I don't want their pity. "Caitlin!" Someone yells from behind me. I turn around and see Sara, my best friend and one of the nurses here. She usually stays with me when she's not doing anything so I'm not completely alone. I was married once but that didn't end well. He left a couple months ago. He was a drunk and he used to beat me up every night. I only married him because I was only 17 when I got pregnant and he was 20 and my parents kicked me out when I told them and I needed a legal guardian so I thought at the time it was a good idea to marry him. Now I see that it was the biggest mistake I ever made.

"Hey Sara." I smiled as she came over and hugged me tight. "I have missed you." I mumbled. "I was at Hawaii for a week." She laughs. "I know." I smiled pulling back. "Aunt Sara!" Elizabeth yelled excitedly. "Hey Beth!" Sara smiled and gave her a tight hug. "I missed you too." Sara whispered and kissed her forehead. Sara and Elizabeth have grown very close as well. "Look my legs getting better. I might get the new one that mommy has been talking about!" Elizabeth smiled. I think I have enough money to get the prosthetic leg for her. It's been about 7 months since that they had to remove her leg because of infection from a burn that my ex husband gave her. I never would've thought he would hurt her. Never in a million years.

"I'm gonna go get a drink and some food for Lizzie. I'll be right back." I smiled. Sara nodded her head as I walked away. As I was walking someone turned around and ran right into me. I fell back on the ground. "Oh god, I'm so sorry. Are you o-woah." A man with a thick Irish accent says. I open my eyes to find a tall man with blonde hair and the prettiest and bluest eyes I have ever seen standing over me, his mouth slightly open. Woah? "Um yeah I'm fine. I'm sorry I should pay attention to where I am going." I smile. He stands up and offers me a hand to help me up. "No need to apologize. I'm Niall Horan." He smiled. "Caitlin Smith." I introduced myself as he shook my hand. "Nice to meet you. I'm sorry again for not looking where I was going." I said looking down slightly embarrassed. "Can I get you a drink?" He asked. "Waters fine. Thank you." I smiled. "Come on. Why don't you have a little champagne." He urges. "I don't drink. Especially around my daughter." I shook my head. I don't drink since I've seen what it does to people.

"You have a daughter?" He asked. "Yeah. She's 6." I smiled. "Do you volunteer to come to these charity balls a lot?" He smiled. "I don't volunteer here. My daughter is a patient. She has brain cancer." I sighed. "Oh I'm so sorry. What's her name?" He asked. "Lizzie or Elizabeth." I smiled. "That's a cute name." He said. "Thanks. Well she's pretty hungry and I told her I'd get her some food so I beter go. Nice to meet you Niall." I smiled. "And you Caitlin." He slightly nodded before I walked away. I walked over to the buffet and got just a little bit of food. Lizzie doesn't eat much. I walked back to where Elizabeth and Sara were still standing. "I saw you talking to that cute guy. Tell me all about him. Was he nice? What was his name? Are you guys gonna date?" She bombarded me with questions. "His names Niall. He's very nice. And no we're not going on a date. I just met him." I laughed. "You seemed to get along fine." She winks. "Stop it." I giggle.

After a while of talking to people and Lizzie talking to some kids and made some friends we went back upstairs to her room. Sara came with us. I gently set Lizzie back in the bed before putting in wheel chair away in the small closet. She sat up playing with a donated doll since I couldn't afford new toys to play. It was kind of dirty but she wasn't complaining. Sara and I started talking about her vacation to Hawaii. All of a sudden there was a knock at the door. "Come in!" I yelled. As the door opened I saw Niall and 4 other guys. "Oh hey Caitlin." Niall smiled. "Hey." I replied. "Is this Lizzie?" He asked looking over at her. I nodded. "Hey Lizzie." Niall smiled and sat down on the bed. "Hi, I'm Harry. It's nice to meet you." One with curly long brown hair and emerald green eyes introduced himself. "I'm Louis." Another one said but he had brown hair which was styled back. He also has blue eyes but not as pretty as Niall's. "I'm Liam." One said. He had a buzz cut and chocolate brown eyes. "And I'm Zayn." The last one smiled. He had black hair styles back like Louis but he had more hair. He also had brown eyes.

"Not to be rude but why are you guys in here?" I ask. "We are in a band and we like to come to hospitals to meet some of the kids and we donate money and toys and things like that." Louis explained. I nodded my head. "What band?" I wondered. "One Direction." They all said in unison. "Oh I've heard of you guys before." I smiled. "Hey sweetie. We have a present for you." Liam smiled. "You do?" She asked excitedly. I know she doesn't get presents much so when she does she get's very excited. Zayn hands her a Cinderella doll. "Cinderella's my favorite!" She squealed. "That's a very pretty dress you have on. You look just like her." Niall smiled. She grabbed onto Niall's shoulders to pull herself up. She wrapped her arms around his neck. "Thank you." She says and whispered something in his ear making him laugh. His laugh is so loud and contagious. "I don't think so." He sighed. "Please." She begged. "You might have to talk to you mom about that." He said and everyone looks at me. "What did she ask you?" I ask. "She wants me to be her new dad." He smiled. "Yeah because old daddy left. He was mean. He hurt my leg so now I don't have it anymore. I want a nice one that doesn't make mommy scream and cry." She said.

"What is she talking about?" Louis asked. I need them to stop staring at me like that. I think the silence said it all. Tears started pouring out from my eyes. "Can we talk about something else? Anything please." I begged. Niall set Lizzie down slowly before hugging me. His warm arms wrapped around my waist and I wrapped my arms around his neck. I felt safe now, in his arms, but I knew this can't happen. I'm an average poor girl who isn't even that pretty and he is a famous rich guy. "This could never happen." I kept telling myself.
