Live Shows – Week 3: Part 2

Harry’s POV

Saturday, 8th October

It was 6pm and I was ready to leave my house to head to the studios. I didn’t feel like driving today so I had called Paul to come and pick me up. As soon as I heard his large car pull into the driveway, I grabbed my bag, shoved my sunglasses on and opened the front door.

It was quiet, no camera flashes, which I was very grateful for. Paul greeted me with a handshake and a hug before grabbing my bag and placing it in the front seat of the car while I hopped into the back, closing the door behind me. Paul ignited the engine and the car roared to life. He pulled out of my driveway and began the journey of driving to The X Factor studios.

“How are you today, Paul?” I asked. Paul had been the tour manager for us boys whenever we went on the road, travelling all over the world, performing to tens of thousands of fans. He had been our dad when we were on tour, looking after us while we liked to prank him constantly, especially me. I was a young lad and I wanted to have fun, that’s all. I was still close with Paul, after going on a break. We were good friends and I knew I could rely him for almost anything.

“I’m good, thanks, Harry. You?”

“Fine, mate. Just looking forward to tonight’s performances.” I answered. Truth be told, I was always excited about the live performances, and not just from my girls. I was intrigued by every contestant and if any of them would crack under the pressure.

“You going to be watching tonight?” I asked Paul.

“Of course. I watch every week, Harry.”

“Do you have your money on anyone to win?”

“Oooh, well, to be honest, I’m loving the female contestants this year.” Paul said. Never would have guessed. I smirked to myself.

“Oh, really?” I laughed.

“Yes. They’re amazing. That girl group… Firefly, is it? They’re great. It would be nice to see a group win since Little Mix are the only group to have ever won.”

I nodded at Paul’s words. Me and the lads knew the Little Mix ladies very well. After Zayn broke his engagement off to Perrie, we still remained close with them. Louis caught up with Perrie a lot and every now and then, we would meet up at gigs that we were both performing at. They were all lovely young women and they showed our support for us like we did for them.

“And I must say, your category has some fine talent, Harry.” Paul stated. I smiled, looking out of the tinted window. I knew I had chosen the right girls to put through. But in a way, I was starting to regret putting Melody through. She wished to break apart Kaylie and I. She disliked Kaylie because she was jealous of her. I wished things could be normal and so much simpler.

“Thank you, Paul.”

“Who’s that one girl of yours with the caramel hair? Kaylie, right?”

“Mmm-hmm, yes, that’s her.” I said. Just the mention of her made me smile.

“She’s incredible. I really like her.” Paul said as he drove around a corner, navigating his way through the forever-busy London traffic.

“She’s definitely amazing. I love working with her, she’s so sweet.” I bit back a grin and watched the cars weave in and out of lanes around us. The sky was already dark and the night was a dark velvet blue, no stars visible because of all the city lights.

Stars reminded me of Kaylie. Their glow was the same as hers, coming through in her sparkling chocolate eyes and beautiful smile. So I had gotten her a present to show her how much I cared for her. I hope she likes it. The poem I had struggled to write. It ended up taking me exactly 34 minutes to complete it. I wanted to use as little words as possible to get my point across. I knew Kaylie would smell absolutely delectable wearing the Coco Chanel perfume. The sweet aroma of it was perfect for her. I hoped she would wear it tonight. I also still felt guilty about what happened with Melody. I owed Kaylie, to fully let her know that she was the only girl for me. Not Melody.

There was a ‘ping’ from my phone, alerting me that I had received a text. I pulled my phone out of the back pocket of my jeans and saw that the text was from Melody. I narrowed my eyes and frowned. Why did she text me? Somewhat curious, I opened her message.

From Melody: Hi, Harry. I just want to apologise for forcing myself on you on Sunday. I shouldn’t have done that and I disrespected you. For that, I am sorry. I hope this won’t cause a rift between us during rehearsals because I do enjoy working with you. Again, I’m sorry. See you tonight xx

I stared at her text and read over it about five times, letting her words sink in. It confused me because she had had all week during our rehearsals to apologise to me but she never did. She was reasonably quiet and followed all of my directions during rehearsals. She never brought up the subject and she didn’t even mention Kaylie at all. So she decides to say sorry through a text? To me, that wasn’t good enough. I wanted to look into her eyes and hear an apology fall from her lips so I could see if she was lying or not. Melody was a strong woman and she persevered in every situation she was thrown into, especially with performances. So why would this be any different? Melody wouldn’t give up that easily on trying to tear Kaylie and I apart. It wasn’t in her to just back off so I was suspicious.

I didn’t respond to her text because I found no reason to. I would give her my response tonight, face-to-face. Just like she should have done.

It was 7:26pm which meant there were only 34 minutes until the show was due to air. I needed to find Melody quickly. I buttoned up my suit jacket and ruffled up my hair before leaving my dressing room. I strolled down the corridors, searching everywhere for a flash of white-blonde hair. I didn’t see Kaylie or Alicia either. I remembered they were either in hair and make-up or getting changed into their outfits for tonight.

My feet carried me to the area behind the stage and there, I found her.
Melody was surrounded by three people. One of them was fixing up her short hair, one was hooking up her microphone pack to the back of her outfit (http://www.polyvore.com/melody_live_shows_week/set?id=209959149) and the other one was dusting foundation on her face. In short, she was being pampered as if she was a global-selling artist herself. Her song tonight was We Can’t Stop by Miley Cyrus and the clothes she was wearing reflected the context of the song. But I wasn’t interested in her in that way. I cleared my throat and said her name.

“Melody?”

She turned her head to look at me, her pale blue eyes staring into mine. I told her that I needed to speak with her. The people around her quickly left us alone and she took her earpieces out as I walked up to her.

“What’s this about, Harry?”

“I’ll tell what this is about.” I declared and took my phone out, opening up her text message. I held the screen up to her and raised my eyebrows. Melody gulped deeply and looked at me nervously, her lips parting as she tried to find the right words to say.

“Well?” I asked.

“What do you want me to say?”

“I want to know why you didn’t apologise to me this week at all. We had three rehearsals and during any of those, you could’ve said exactly what was in this text. Why didn’t you say it to my face?”

“Well, after what transpired between us on Sunday, I felt that it was an awkward topic to dwell on. I didn’t want to bring it up because it would ruin our rehearsals, I think.” Melody said but I shook my head.

“No, it wouldn’t have. You had the time to come to me and say sorry but you didn’t. I wouldn’t have bitten your head off.” I replied. The fact that she seemed scared to apologise, to simply do it in a text, struck me as odd. Melody was a confident person. She had always been that way ever since her audition. But that person wasn’t standing before me. Instead, I saw a vulnerable young woman who was afraid to say “I’m sorry.” But I didn’t feel sorry for her. She had brought all of this on herself.

“So, can you say it to my face, Melody?” I asked her. She looked at me and raised her hand hesitantly, moving it to my chest. I gave her a “Don’t touch me” look and she lowered her hand in defeat. Her apologetic eyes gazed at me, puckering her red-painted lips.

“I’m sorry, Harry.”

The way she said those words, she looked like she truly meant it. Her facial expression was full of guilt and longing, like she was begging for my forgiveness. I sighed and looked at her gently.

“I forgive you. But you must promise me something.”

Melody’s face lit up with joy when I told her that I accepted her apology and a smile pulled at her red lips. She turned serious and nodded her head.

“I want you to stop threatening Kaylie. I know you two aren’t fond of each other but I can’t handle jealousy here. It’s too dangerous. So please, leave Kaylie alone and never do what you did on Sunday again.”

“H-H-How do you know that I threatened her?” Melody asked, her expression turning back to worry and shock.

“She told me. I noticed that she was a bit down every time your name was spoken. I will not tolerate threats, especially about flirting and whatnot.” I expressed confidently.

“So…do you like her?”

That was the last question I had wanted Melody to ask. I closed my eyes momentarily and moved my fingers through my curls, throwing them back away from my forehead.

“Look, that’s none of your business, Melody. I just ask you to stop bullying Kaylie and refrain from being envious. There’s no room for that here in the studios. This competition alone is stressful enough.”

My statement effectively ended the conversation. Melody pressed her lips together and nodded her head slightly before leaving without another word, brushing past me. I watched her walk way, her head down, her heels clipping on the shiny floor. She disappeared from my sight and I let out a deep breath. She apologised but… why do I get the feeling that this is not over? I would be lying if I said I wasn’t in the slightest apprehensive about what Melody would do next. Will she keep her promise or will she break it? Only time would tell.

The show was once again a success. Not every contestant had been amazing but my girls had been. All three of them. I was a very proud mentor.

The Top 10 were mingling with each other backstage. Some were chatting away while others left to go home. I spotted two of my contestants, Alicia and Kaylie, standing opposite each other, smiling as they talked. I made my way over to them with a smile and heard my angel speak.

“Sssh, anyone could hear us talking.”

“Anyone could hear you two talking about what?” I asked, stepping up to them. Both girls looked at me at the same time, a little surprised to see me. The two of them were absolutely beautiful in their outfits. Alicia’s one made her look gorgeous (http://www.polyvore.com/alicia_live_shows_week/set?id=209959355) and Kaylie’s black lace dress hugged her petite curvy figure, accentuating her breasts and waist perfectly. Her eyes widened and she stuttered on her words, completely flabbergasted. It was adorable and it only made me want to kiss her even more than I already wanted to.

“We were talking about, uh, about…” But it was Alicia who finished Kaylie’s sentence.

“About our performances. We were both commending each other.”

“Well, both of you were outstanding tonight. I’m very proud of you two.” I smiled at them. Kaylie had sung Hello exactly the way we had rehearsed it. The correct breathing pattern so she could hit those big notes and the response from the crowd was the best thing. The public loved her and I sincerely hoped they would get behind her again this week and vote her through. I talked to Alicia, praising her on her performance. She had been equally amazing, showing so much devotion and passion to singing. She was a trueborn performer and I hoped that she would go through to next week as well. I loved working with both Alicia and Kaylie and since they were such good friends, it only made things more enjoyable.

“Uh, Kaylie, girl?” Alicia turned to my angel and so did I. Kaylie’s eyes were locked to me. She didn’t even blink. I placed my hand on her shoulder and she suddenly realised that she had been staring at me

“Kaylie, are you OK?” I asked her.

“Uh, yeah, yeah, I’m fine. Just thinking.” She answered, her face turning a light shade of pink in embarrassment.

“And that’s my cue to leave. See you next week, Harry.” Alicia said and wrapped her arms around me in a friendly hug. I complimented her on her performance again and she thanked me before giving Kaylie a hug goodbye, whispering something in her ear that I couldn’t quite make out.

Alicia let go of Kaylie and stepped away, waving goodbye as she disappeared into the corridor. Kaylie and I were finally alone. It was just the two of us backstage as everyone else had left. I caught sight of a large black curtain, which was perfect for concealed, and gestured to it with a nod of my head. I needed to hold her in my arms before she left tonight. I needed to smell her skin, touch her hair, kiss her lips. I wanted to do those things because she was my beautiful angelic girlfriend.

Kaylie looked at me and bit her lip, sending shivers through my body. I want to bite that lip again. She walked behind the curtain and I quickly followed, making sure we were completely hidden from view. I heard her breathing in the dark and thin lines of minimal light streamed into our hiding spot so I could see her. Her back was to me so I wrapped my arms around her waist and pulled her to my chest. I dived my nose into her neck and the scent of her new perfume invaded my nostrils, sexy and sugary. I pressed my lips to her smooth skin and I felt her tremble in my arms as I made a trail of kisses along her neck.

“You smell delicious.” I whispered, her long soft hair, which had been straightened tonight, grazed my cheek as her skin shivered from the touch of my lips. I wanted her so badly right now. She smelt so amazing. I just wanted to pleasure her and show her that I was falling for her over and over again, maybe even leading to love.

“Thank you for the perfume. You didn’t have to get it for me.” She murmured, placing her small hands over mine.

“It was my pleasure, angel. I knew you would smell lovely wearing it.” I smiled into her neck, pressing a couple more kisses to her skin. Kaylie spun around in my arms, locking her wrists behind my neck, her lips finding mine. Her taste was addictive and I immediately responded by deepening the kiss, enveloping my mouth over hers. Her hands carded through my long hair as I wet her lips with my tongue, her warm fresh breath swimming down my throat. She pressed her body to mine so that there was no gap between us. She was like a puzzle piece that fit into my life faultlessly. The way she curved her body around mine, her fingers tightening in my curls… My heart had finally fallen for her.

I craved more. I wanted more. I needed more. My hands moved down to Kaylie’s hips and I pushed her back, her body making contact with the wall. Our kisses grew more passionate, more fierce, and there was a fire burning between us. A fire that I never wanted to be extinguished. I felt a particular organ of mine stiffen in between my legs when her fingers tugged at my scalp, opening her mouth to allow my tongue to slip inside. I caressed her cheek with my left hand, savouring the flavour of her lips, as rich and sweet as cherries. This was all for me. Kaylie was all for me and no-one else would have her. She was mine.

Le mien. Pour toujours.” I breathed in between a kiss. The French words rolled off my tongue as if I had always meant to say them to her. I stroked her hips, imagining how soft her skin was underneath the lace.

I kissed her one last time before breaking my lips away from hers. I pressed my forehead to hers and let our proximity sink in. Then, her fingers touched my chest and I opened my eyes to see that she was tracing my swallow tattoos, eyeing them with curiosity. I loved it when she touched me. Just a single caress made my heart jump. I placed my hand on top of hers, holding her fingers to my chest.

“You like them?” I asked her, smirking. Kaylie raised her eyes to mine and nodded.

“Very much.”

For a girl like Kaylie to like my tattoos was a great thing. I had many of them, decorating all over my left arm, on my torso, on my left thigh. Would I get more? Probably but if I did, they would have to have a meaning. Something personal so I wouldn’t regret having it done. Maybe I should get something that reminds me of Kaylie? Angel wings for my angel? Stars for my star? A love heart for my love? I had so many ideas now. I imagined Kaylie touching my tattoos, running her fingertips over the ferns above my hips, across my large butterfly, her tender touch setting my naked skin on fire. I longed for that moment.

Kaylie’s gaze was on me and she never broke it. I stared into her eyes and didn’t look away, moving my finger down the length of her face, following her jawline and running the pad of my thumb over her nude-coloured lips. I placed my palm on her cheek and she leaned into my hand, resting her hand over mine. I got lost into her warm chocolate eyes, a soft shadow casting over the right side of her face, making her fair skin glow. She was beautiful and everything I had always wanted. A girl I could call my own.

“Harry, I…” Kaylie began but I cut her off by putting my fingers to her lips. I had heard noises, the sound of footsteps. I couldn’t let anyone catch us out. No-one at all. I lowered my breathing and so did Kaylie just as voices of the crew passed us by, not having a clue that we were behind the curtain. This risk was everywhere and lingered on my mind every day. No-one here could know about us, especially Simon. He would take my angel away from me but I wouldn’t let that happen. The wrath that would be unleashed would be severely ferocious if Kaylie was kicked off the show. I would lose it. I waited until the footsteps and voices were long gone before taking my fingers off her mouth. Too close for comfort. I sighed in my head with relief. I looked down at Kaylie to find that her eyes were huge with fear and her face had gone a little pale under her make-up. But we were fine. We hadn’t been caught and we were OK. I moved some caramel-coloured hair away from her face and wrapped my fingers around her lace-covered arm.

“Sorry, angel, what were you going to say?”

I felt terrible interrupting her but I didn’t want us to be caught out, especially not here in the studios. I could tell that whatever she wanted to say to me, it was important. Was it something about her performance? Our future? Something about us? But Kaylie didn’t tell me. Instead, her arms went around my waist, pulling me to her, her lips gently touching my throat.

“Nothing. Can I just have a hug?”

She didn’t let me respond and rested her cheek on my chest, folding her hands behind my back. I couldn’t refuse her in anything so I wrapped my arms around her and embraced her back. I wondered what she wanted to tell me. Hadn’t it been that important? Or is she scared? I didn’t know but in a way, I wished I knew what was going on inside that head of hers. When I felt her arms tighten around me, I hugged her even more securely, letting her know that I was here. Here for her. I kissed Kaylie’s forehead and felt her body melt into mine and right in that moment, I realised something. Something that I had always wished for.

I’m in love with her.
