City Boy
Summary
Once upon a time there was this beautiful 21 year-old girl. Her name was Katy Dawson. She was the pride and joy of that little country town in the middle of Georgia called Buxton, but it was known to the residents as Deerfield, the name it was given a hundred years ago by David Hunter, the town’s founder. For confusion’s sake, we’ll refer to it as Buxton.
The folks in Buxton had lived the same way for the entirety of the existence of the quaint little town. Anybody could tell you the best place to grab a meal was Tabby’s Bar, because that was the only restaurant they had. There was one general store, one post office, and one auto shop. There were two banks, but that’s because the Mill’s Brothers got in a fight and split their bank.
Now, back to Katy Dawson. Her daddy was a horse dealer on the south side of town. Everybody got their horses from him. He took care of ‘em best, bred ‘em better than anybody in the state. Her mom ran that treasured bar in the middle of town, and she was not a woman to be reckoned with. Katy had three big brothers, Bobby, Timmy, and Fred. Fred was the oldest, and Bobby and Timmy were only a year apart, and always getting into trouble. But when it came to their sister, they’d even rough up the boys in blue if they messed with her.
Katy loved her town more than anything in the world. She even loved Hos, the town drunk. She loved to drive her little beat up ’87 Chevy down to the old windmill and watch the stars. She didn’t have a boyfriend. The first one cheated on her, and got a broken nose from Bobby. The second one hit her, and got four broken ribs from Timmy. The third one tried to force her and Fred put him in the hospital for a month. So, since the last one, no boy’s been brave enough to ask her out. She loves her brothers, but she was afraid she’d be alone forever sometimes.
Until the boy with the curly hair and green eyes showed up.
