Today was Lizzie’s surgery. The surgery that will allow her to have children. I can’t help but smile anytime I think about Lizzie being a mum. I always imagine her having a beautiful little girl, who looks just like her.
I haven’t seen her since the day I told her I loved her. She’s sent me texts, asking if I’m alright. I always tell her I am, even when I’m not.
Today will be hard, naturally I’m concerned about the surgery, about Lizzie. I think the best thing I can do for her, is watch over Liam. Yes, today I will somehow find the courage to comfort the man who has my Lizzie’s heart.

At the hospital, I hang back when Lizzie and Liam arrive, waiting to greet her last. I wrap her in my arms, honestly never wanting to let go.
She thanks me for coming; I assure her there is nowhere else I would be.
She confides to me that she’s nervous. I let her know that everything will be alright and that I will take care of Liam for her while she’s in surgery.
With tears in her eyes, she tells me that she doesn’t know what she’d do without our friendship. All I can manage back is “Me either, Lizzie”.

I sat with Liam in the waiting room the entire time Lizzie was in surgery. Sometimes we chatted, other times we sat in silence. The entire time though, we were two men, worried about the woman they love.
Once Lizzie was safely out of surgery, and I knew that she was alright, I left. I needed to leave it to Liam to comfort her.

Harry walks in the room. “What page are you on?” He asks Alice.
“Liz’s surgery.”
Harry nods his head.
“Can I ask you a question, H?”
He grins. “Well, considering the fact that I’m letting you read about my deepest, darkest feelings...sure.”
Alice smiles. “Do you ever want to just stop being the nice guy? Just run up to Liz, ravage her with kisses and tell her you still love her?”
Harry smirks. “Only...every day.”
“Why don’t you?”
“I love Lizzie so much, that her happiness is more important than my own. At this point in her life, she’s very happy, I can’t take that from her.”
“What if you could make her even more happy?”
“She’s happy with Liam, with her life with him.”
“Harry, by not telling her how you still feel for her, you’re taking the choice away from her.”
