For Your Eyes Only
Chapter 36
Niall’s POV
I sat in the pews among a group of guys I’d met that were apparently Kally’s brothers. Seriously, there were like ten of them, plus the groomsmen, although those five were just old friends. Thankfully they were unaware of my relationship with Annie. Intimidating is not quite strong enough a word to show how I felt, because they all knew Annie like a sister. And that was bloody terrifying.
The beautiful sound of Canon in D began to creep through the auditorium as the procession began. I studied each bridesmaid, looking for my girl. She wasn’t coming. I saw girl after girl in various blush pink dresses placed to one side by a groomsman, but none of them were my girl. Then, all eyes turned back to the double doors. There was a collective gasp, in which I participated, but not for the same reasons. The crowd was fixated on the girl in white; I was entranced by the girl in pink holding her arm.
She wore a beautiful lace dress that came to just above her knee, and had only one strap. It framed her body perfectly, accentuating her hips and narrowing her waist. Her feet wore simple heels, and her hair… her hair was curled and left down, spreading over her shoulders like a goddess as she walked slowly arm in arm with the bride. I could already imagine combing my fingers through her soft, dark brown waves. I stood with the crowd as we watched in awe. I couldn’t breathe. This girl was going to be the death of me. Her eyes flickered around until they settled on mine, holding there for encouragement. I nearly shook myself, offering a wide smile to her, which she gladly returned.
The ceremony seemed to last forever. All I could think about was Annie. I wanted to kiss her; I wanted to taste her again. But I didn’t want to push her. She had been forced into everything her whole life, and I wasn’t planning on being another person to do that to her. She would tell me when she was ready. I trusted her to do that. But I wanted her so bad, I could taste it.
Finally we made it to the reception. Annie was sat with all the bridesmaids across the room, all surrounded by the groomsmen who seemed a little too familiar with her for my comfort. I was stood over in a doorframe watching, giving her some space and allowing her time to catch up with her friends. My phone vibrated in my pocket, startling me out of my thoughts.
Princess: You look gorgeous in that suit ;)
Niall: Darling, that dress is seriously challenging my level of self-control here.
Princess: Tsk tsk, naughty boy.
Niall: Oh, I’ll show you naughty, princess.
Princess: Not here, you won’t!
Niall: I’m going to take you to the closet down the hall and kiss you and touch you and suck on your perfect skin until you’re shaking in my arms, and then I’m going to make you mine up against the wall until you’re screaming my name for the whole church to hear.
Princess: Niall Horan! This is a wedding, and it isn’t ours. Stop talking about sex. We aren’t doing any of that here.
Niall: Does that mean we can do it at the hotel? ;P
Princess: We’ll talk about this later.
Niall: By talk, you mean…
Princess: Niall!
I looked up and swallowed the laugh as I saw her discreetly holding her phone by her side, her face tomato red. She was an absolute vision. Suddenly I tensed as one of the guys leaned in behind her, startling her with a whisper in her ear. She smile and pushed him away with both hands on his chest. Apparently I straightened rather abruptly, because there were about four pairs of eyes on me as I made my way over to her.
“Hey, ba-” she started. I cut her off, pressing my lips to hers and sliding my hands over her hips. She kissed back after a moment, then pulled back and grinned at me. “What was that for?” she asked.
“So those idiots know you’re mine,” I growled, placing one more kiss on her cheek. Sadly, the mark I’d given her at the hospital was long gone.
“Ehm,” someone cleared their throat. I turned to see the groomsmen eying us suspiciously. Annie rolled her eyes and took my hand.
“Guys, this is my boyfriend Niall. Niall, this is David, Carl, Rob, Tyler, and Peter.” They each shook my hand, sending silent threats with their eyes. Then we all just stood there for a moment, glaring at one another. Finally Annie threw her hands up and sighed in defeat, walking back to the other girls. “I’ll leave you to it.” Leave us to what?
“What are your intentions towards her?” one immediately asked as soon as she was out of earshot. David, I think.
“Hopefully towards something more permanent than ‘girlfriend,” I answered easily.
“How long have you known her?” asked Tyler.
“Four and a half months.”
“I swear if you hurt her,” began Carl.
“Dude, just stop. I realize you knew her growing up, but she’s my world. She means more to me than my own life. I’m hers completely, so if you’re gonna threaten me then just don’t. It won’t mean anything, because if I ever hurt her, I’ll be the one killing myself. You won’t have to.” They froze, ill prepared for me to fight back. Suddenly Peter threw an arm around my shoulders and grinned.
“I liked you from the start,” he said, laughing at the other guys’ tension. I didn’t care. They could threaten me till the cows came home. Annie was mine and I was hers, and their stupid possessiveness wasn’t going to stand in my way. I loved her with every part of my being. Nothing could change that.
