Long Way Down

Chapter twenty- “I’m never shocked when people let me down now days. I just hate the fact that I put myself in a position to be let down in the first place.”

-Sammie

Marc.

He texted me.

Wow.

Okay.

Marc
- Hey Sam

Me
- hi

Marc-
how have u been?

Me-
good- hbu?

Marc-
I miss you Sam

I stare at the phone screen. I hate to say that I thought that he misses me is sweet, but he did this to him-self by believing Harry and not me.

Me-
well, I guess you should have thought about ‘us’ before you believed a stranger over me.

With that I turned my phone off, not wanting to get in trouble. I go back to counting the money from the register.

“How’d we do today Miss Sammie?”

I looked up at Tom- the book store owner.

“Not too bad. $236.78 in book sells and $354.02 in music sells.”

“Well! That’s wonderful, if I can say. You go ahead and take your check out of it- just take the music sells with you. You’ve been doing great here. Adapting well and all of that.”

Tom starts walking away from the counter towards the back of the store.

“Thanks Tom!”

He tells me to go with a simple smile and the wave of his hand.

When I pull into my drive way, another car is there, it’s a green color.

Sighing, I get my belongings together and make my way out of the car.

“Sam! I’m really sorry!”

Marc. Should have known.

“Yea, okay, I get it, you’re sorry. Now I’m really looking forward to you leaving so I can take a nap.”

I continue to walk past him and to my door.

“Sammie, please I miss hanging out with you and just you in general.”

“Marc. Leave. You made your bed, now lay in it.”

“Sam don’t do this, we can just go back to how it was a few weeks ago! Everything will wor-“

Before he could even finish his sentence, someone else spoke.

“I think- she asked you to leave.”

I raise my head to see Harry’s. He is staring Marc down. I almost feel bad because under
Marc’s stupidity, he is a nice, caring guy,

With a shrug of my shoulders I open the front door. Turning to face them I say, “Look, Marc- leave, this is going in a circle, and circles don’t go anywhere. Harry? I have no idea why you’re here, but if you could escort yourself off of my front lawn also, it would be fan-fucking tastic.

Marc and Harry look at me. Marc, I guess tired of begging for forgiveness, walks off.

Harry clears his throat taking my attention off Marc and putting it on him.

“My mom was wondering if you would like to go out again. Tomorrow is her last day here.”

I roll my neck feeling extremely tired and stressed, “I don’t know. I don’t know. Okay? I’m still confused as to why I’m even helping you.”

“Sam, please. I really can’t let her down on this one.”

Annoyance laced in my voice, “Alright! Fine! Just pick me up around six tomorrow.”

“Six. Okay. Thank you.”

I nod and close my door. Lord! Get off work and I can’t even get a nap in.

Some people, I think.
