Chapter 21: You ready?

Jessa’s POV

It’s almost time. The seconds are ticking down. Don’t let your lip quiver or you’ll cry. Why am I so nervous? I’ve never been this nervous. Calm the fuck down Jessa!

I watched the guys and my mom walk toward me with nervous smiles. Jaime hadn’t looked up from the ground and my dad wouldn’t stop messing with his hair. They all stopped in front of me and took a deep breath.

“You ready?” My dad asked bluntly.

“Sure.” I tried to make it believable but I knew I failed when his smile faded. “I’m just nervous, I can do this.”

“That’s right, you're a Perry and a Perry can do anything!” I let my chin drop as I realized that Vic was also scared, his words were shaky and fake.

“Yea.” I lifted my head and tried to act okay.

“Can you guys give us a minute?” My mom asked quietly as she chipped away her nail polish.

They nodded and walked away. I tried to even my breathing but couldn’t and that made me even more panicky. My dad was obviously picking up on it because he reached out and touched my shoulder.

“Just breath sissy, everything’s okay.” His voice was calm as he spoke slowly to me. “Focus on your breathing, slow it down.”

It’s gonna be okay, breath. Slower. Fuck! I cant even breath right, how the hell am I supposed to sing on stage?! In front of people?

“Hey, don’t cry. You're okay.” He grabbed my hand gently. “Close your eyes and focus on your breathing.”

I nodded and did as he said. It was easier to breath when I closed my eyes. He knew that it made me not think of where I am but what I’m doing. My breathing eventually evened out and I started to calm down.

“Are you okay to preform?” He asked quietly as my eyes opened again.

“Yea, I can do this.” His lips curled into a smile when I answered him.

“Are you sure?” My mom asked in a worried tone.

“Yea, I said I’d do it and I’m not going to back out of this.” I smiled at her and then at my dad.

“Showtime!” The old bitchy lady that I’d argued with early yelled.

“You know that you don’t have to do this.” My dad’s final effort in making sure I was okay.

“I’m not going to back out especially when there is so much on the line here.” My words were a relief to him.

“Let’s do this then.” His smile was huge as he said that.

“Go!” I laughed, pointing him in the right direction.

He chuckled and jogged away. My mom and I watched him pick up his guitar and run through the curtain with the guys as the crowd went crazy for them. We also watched ATL and Paramore run out right after them.

“We’re really proud of you Jessa, I know how hard this is going to be for you but I know you can do it.” My mom mumbled as she kissed my cheek. “Everyone else is too.”

“Thanks mom and I’m willing to do this for them; they’ve all done so muych for me, its my turn to do something for them.” I smiled at her and heard the crowd quiet down.

“Go get your mic sweetie.” My mom urged me to leave her side. “I love you.”

“Love you too mom.” I smiled at her and then went to get my mic.

“How’s everyone doing today?” Vic’s voice was full of excitement as he spoke into the microphone and the crowd exploded in screams. “Good!” I stood right behind the curtain and grabbed my microphone from one of the workers next to me.

“As all of you know, we have a special guest here today. Are you ready to meet our special guest?” Alex asked happily making the crowd get even louder (I didn't even know that was possible).

“Okay, come on out jigsaw!” Mike yelled into his microphone.

I took a deep breath and walked through the curtain with all the courage I had. The crowd cheered for me as I looked around at them and then at the bands on stage. Look confident or they’ll tear you apart. I stood by Vic’s side and hugged him.

“A lot of you know who this is but if you don’t, this is Jessa Perry, Tony’s beautiful daughter. I lo-“ Vic’s voice was lost in the crowd while I adjusted my arm that was around his waist. “I love this girl so much, I’ve watched her grow up and I’m really proud of the woman she has become.” He looked at me with a warm smile that made me relax a little bit and pulled the microphone away from his mouth. “Thank you so much Jessa, you mean the world to us.”

“Anything for you, Tinta.” I said back to him as he kissed my forehead.

“Let’s get this show started!” Vic yelled into his microphone and the crowd got loud again.
