The Way We Used To Be - ON HOLD-

one

Maggie May McCarthy was born on a rainy November day in Seattle to a classic rock enthusiast named Jessica. Jessica was in a loving relationship with her Husband – Greg. They had what Greg called an eternal love. Jessica found out that what he meant was a four year love that resulted in a nasty divorce and Jessica getting full custody of their daughter. Maggie grew up in a slightly tumultuous household, but she always knew her mother loved her with all she had. She wasn’t too sad when her parents split up, she was kind of relieved. Her four year old eyes showed her that her mother wasn’t crying as much anymore, in fact she couldn’t remember seeing her smile so often. Her father was never really around to begin with, so there wasn’t much to miss.
Jessica and Maggie lived with Jess’s parents in a nice house on the lake. Maggie was spoiled by her grandparents, she was happy.
When Maggie turned seven, she noticed her mommy was spending a lot of time with a man called Dean. They would even bring Maggie with them on certain occasions and let her play with his sons. Dean Winston had two sons; they were twins. Oliver and Aiden Winston – two blonde haired boys with green eyes and a face full of freckles. They were 9. They all seemed to get along well so these play dates seemed to double in the numbers. Sometimes, they would even spend the night.
Despite how content Maggie was living with her grandparents, she will never forget the day her mother told her the big news.
“We’re going to move to England, isn’t that so exciting?” Jessica cheered, her blue eyes bright with excitement. Maggie chewed on her bottom lip, tilting her head slightly.
“How far is that from Naynay?” Maggie’s voice was quiet, a soft and curious tone.
“It’s across the ocean baby girl.” Jess responded as she leaned forward, getting closer to her daughter.
“Are they going with us?” She meant her grandparents and her mother knew exactly what she meant.
“No sweetie, they’re going to stay here. We’ll see them often though, don’t you fret.”
It didn’t matter how much Maggie cried and pleaded, she eventually found herself at the airport, forced on a plane to take her far away from her happiness.
