a band of cousins

new beach

When I was seven Jake got a camera for his birthday. The girls all wanted to make a music video.

We went outside and ran around. We turned on Ellie's IPod. We all decided on the song, A Moment Like This by Kelly Clarkson. We each picked part of the song and sang it.

When I was little I actually liked to sing in front of my family and friends. We made the music video and I put it together on the computer. We showed Nana and Papa and they told us we should show our friends. Isaac, Eric, and Quinn said it was amazing.

We put it up on YouTube. We made tons of videos. We would be outside for hours videotaping. I wrote some songs and then some we did covers of other songs.

One day I wanted to go to a new beach I saw while surfing. We packed up all the surf boards and strapped them to the top of the bus. We bought a small simple bus. It was a cross between a coach bus and a school bus. We all fit and we could also fit Isaac, Quinn, Eric, and any other friends we wanted to bring.

Today wasn't a good surfing day so we just sat on our surf boards. I sat on Isaac's because I didn't want to get mine down. He paddled us out and we looked underwater. There was a coral reef under us. It was really cool. We could almost touch it but we respected nature so we didn't touch it.

Everyone talked and fooled around for a few hours. We videotaped some things.

Isaac was sitting cross legged on one side of the surfboard and I was sitting on the other side, just close enough to touch if we wanted to. We were writing in my book. We had almost half a song done already.

Sydney and Mara were sitting on one board. Sydney had the camera and she was taking pictures. Then she switched it to video camera mode and turned it on us.

"So how are the love birds?" Isaac blushed and we exchanged looks.

"Shut up," I said.

"Oh come on. You can't ignore your love forever," Mara pressed. We ignored them. Anna and Eric paddled up on Anna's board.

"What are you guys talking about?" Anna sat cross legged on one side and Eric on the other.

"The love birds," Taylor said as she and Ellie paddled up to them.

"They aren't love birds," Ellie said.

"Thank you," I sighed.

"Yeah, they're more like like birds," Abbi said. She and Quinn were on a board.

"They're to young to be love birds," Quinn said.

"First of all we aren't love birds or like like birds," I said.

"Second of all we are only a few years younger than you," Isaac said to Quinn. Brady and Jake each came up on their own surfboards. Nana and Papa were waiting on the shore, watch in us. They trusted us to watch out for each other.

"Stop picking on Meggie and Isaac," Jake said. Everyone generally listened to him because he was the oldest.

"Yeah," Isaac and I piped in. A look from Jake silenced us.

I turned on my IPod and looked through the songs. We turned on some songs. We sang out loud for a while. No one paddled or tried to stick together so we were all floating away from each other. Isaac and I were the deepest and Jake was the closest to shore. We were at least a quarter mile to half mile out. I laid down with one arm under my head and the other swirling around in the water.
