a band of cousins
i ran right into the water
The doctor told me I could leave in a week if I did everything they told me until then. I promised I would do everything. That is how I ended up being able to leave.
My cousins brought some clothes for me. They helped me change. I walked out in a spring green skirt with a light pink tank top. I wore my pink flip flops with my hair in a ponytail.
I walked down to the front door. I thought I would just have a leisurely walk to the car but no. There were reporters and photographers everywhere.
Papa rushed out and got the bus. He pulled up to the front as the reporters tried to question us and the photographers tried to get good pictures. Nana herded us on quickly. They asked me tons of questions and I didn't like it at all.
Some people love fame. If this would happen all the time then I do not want to be famous.
We were able to get home safely but reporters were there too. Surprisingly there weren't any on the beach so that's where I spent a lot of the time. My doctor told me that I could go in the ocean right away if I wanted to.
That is one of the first things I did. I ran right into the water. I splashed around for a minute before I realized no one was in with me. I turned and loomed at them. They all had shocked faces. They looked like they didn't expect me to go in. No shark is going to keep me from the ocean.
We sat on the beach for hours. We tried to figure out how I could surf again. We tested it lots of times but I usually resulted in me almost drowning and someone having to save me. We finally figured out how I could do it. We put a handle on the board and it worked well. By the time I turned eight I was able to surf like before, except that it takes me longer to paddle out there.
​From then on we were swarmed by paparazzi but we managed to get rid of them sometimes. From then on I wrote songs for my cousins to perform. When I was ten we became an official band.
