End Of The Day

I brace myself as I walk in the house, assuming Louis has seen that misleading picture.
“Hello, Love.” He kisses me sweetly. Then showing me the picture on his phone. “Looks like you had an eventful day.”
Shaking my head. “It’s not what it looks like, Louis.”
“Oh, I know exactly what it is, Lea.”
I’m confused. He’s not acting angry. “It was just coffee.”
Louis puts his hand in my hair, kissing my forehead. “No, Love, it was a set up. Tom used you.”
Now I’m really confused. “What?”
Louis takes my hand, leading me to the couch. “I’m friends with someone who works at Tom’s agent’s office. That whole “chance” meeting with Tom today, it was all planned.”
“Why would he do that?”
“Publicity, Love. Tom and his agent want his modeling career to take off, he needs publicity for that. Because of Monica, and her video, your name is in the news.”
“So if Tom is linked with me, he’ll be in the news also.”
“Yes. He used you, Darling.”
“Son of a bitch! How could I not see that? I feel so stupid.”
Louis slides his arm around my shoulders. “Not stupid, just too trusting.”
Laying my head on his chest, I tell him. “You’re the only one I can trust anymore, Louis. Promise me that won’t ever change.”
He picks up my hand, kissing it near the bracelet he gave me on New Year's Eve. “I
promise, Darling.”
