End Of The Day

Louis and I sit on the floor, near the tree, helping the little ones with their presents.
At one point I look up to see Johannah watching us with the biggest smile on her face. She catches my eye, winking. I smile, then turn to Louis. He’s looking at me, with such love in his eyes. There are no words, I lay my hand alongside his face, kissing him.
Later, Johannah asks me to join her for a walk.
“Lea, I want you to know I really like you. And I’m sorry for this whole mess you’re dealing with. The video, I mean.”
I blush. “I like you too, Johannah. You have all been so kind to me. And yes it’s a bit awkward to meet your boyfriend’s mum, knowing she’s seen that.”
She grins. “Don’t worry about that.” She pauses for a moment. “Lea, I’ve never seen Louis like this before.”
Concerned, I ask. “Like what?”
She smiles. “I’m not sure how to describe it. You seem to bring out all the best parts of him. He seems so happy and relaxed.” She touches my arm. “And that makes me happy.”
I smile. “I love him, more than I’ve ever loved anyone. As a matter of fact, the way I feel about him makes me realize, I’ve never really loved anyone else before.”
“I can tell by the way he looks at you, that it’s the same for him.” She gives me a hug. “Welcome to the family, Lea.”
When we pull back, I see Louis watching from the door. My breath catches when I see the sparkle in his eyes.
