“What about this?” Penny’s mother, Evelyn, asked as she held up a set of pink striped crib sheets with small foxes placed sporadically. Penny smiled as she looked at it, walking over to touch the soft linen.
“These are perfect.” She said, bright eyes beaming up at her mother. Pregnancy suited Penny, she had a glow to her skin that brightened everything she touched. Her hair was shinier than ever, eyes sparkling like water beneath a setting sun. She and Harry had found their zing so to speak, the pregnancy coming when it did was the perfect thing to help them forget the issues of the past, even those that were harder to move past than others.
“Mom…” Penny began, her fingers grazing over a row of plush toys. “Would you be horribly upset if Harry and I lived in England?” She said turning to look at her, pursed lips displaying a worry that had been plaguing her for weeks.
Evelyn furrowed her brows, before smiling and letting a small chuckle slip through her lips.
“Why would we be mad darling? You and Harry are grown adults and while it will definitely be hard not being able to see this little pea grow into a princess every day, it will just make every time we do see her that much more special.” Her hand had found a spot against Penny’s stomach now, caressing it as she spoke.
“I know he had been thinking of getting a place in Los Angeles too, so we’ll have a house here as well, it’s just…It would really mean a lot to him to be close to his mother after being away for so long…” Penny placed her hand over Evelyn’s, giving her a reassuring squeeze.
“Now, your father may be harder to sell this to, he’s dead set on taking her to every soccer game possible so, you may rack up on frequent flier miles.” She said with a laugh.
“I think we can make it work.” Penny laughed, looking down at the miracle growing in her belly.
“I can’t believe this…I never wanted children, but now I can’t wait to hold her.” She bit her bottom lip before looking back to her mother’s eyes which were showcasing how proud she was.
“You’re going to be a wonderful mother, now come on. We’ve still got to go get food for tonight, I’m sure Harry is getting tired of sitting still at home.”

The pair had been in Dallas, spending time with the Duran’s as the baby was quickly approaching her arrival. They’d been looking at homes in England, close to Harry’s mom and everything had been so hectic, but in a beautiful way.
“There’s my princess.” Penny’s father, David, said as she walked into the house, bags on her arms as she gave him a smile. Cookie, their small Yorkshire terrier (not even 5 months old) came rushing to her, jumping and barking, carrying on in a frantic way once they’d gotten inside.
“Here, let me help.” Harry said as he rushed to his girlfriend, taking the bags from her hands and carrying them into the kitchen. He placed them on the table and turned around, smiling when he saw her.
“Hello love, how was it?” He said wrapping his arms around her growing waist and pulled her nearer.
“Very nice, found some great stuff for the pea.” She said with a grin, they hadn’t decided on a name just yet—but her father had been referring to her as a little pea and it had stuck.
“Wonderful, I can’t wait to see it.” He pressed his lips to hers, welcoming her home properly.
“I did, however, bring up moving to England…Mom seems to be okay, but she thinks we’ll have trouble convincing dad it’s a good idea.” She would speak once their lips had parted. Harry gave her a lopsided grin, he knew that Penny could sell anything to him. He was putty in her hands.
“Don’t think it’ll be a problem then.” He laughed, giving her a wink.
“Get a room.” David said jokingly as he walked into the kitchen, peering over the bags to see what goodies they had brought. “Did you get me the mangos? I am dying for a mango.”
“I got some, but they’re not very good…” Evelyn said, placing her lips quickly to her husband’s cheeks before going to the refrigerator.
“Nonsense, anything you got is wonderful.” He said as he walked over, they were the picture of happiness, two couples meshing completely and wonderfully. Love was all around.

“Penny? Wake up love… we’re here.” Harry said as he gently woke Penny from her dream. She blinked, licking her lips as she let her puffy eyes adjust to the light. They were on the private jet and the lights were still low, probably at the request of Harry.
“I don’t want to go…” She said solemnly, her eyes moving to meet Harry’s.
“I know, but you have to. Your mum needs you…” He reasoned, placing his palm on her jaw.
“Come on love, we just need to get to the car. Kevin has got the bags.”
Finally she pulled herself from her seat, walking hand in hand with him, past Kevin – Harry’s assistant – and down the steps from the plane to solid ground. The town car waiting for them was not parked far away, Penny felt a sense of dread in her stomach knowing she was so close to getting to where her Father had spent so many loving years taking care of her, of the entire family, he was the glue and with him gone she didn’t know how they’d be able to go on.
The only lights present were the streetlights on the highway; it was about 4 am in Dallas as they traveled toward Penny’s childhood house.
Anxiety was conquering Penny as she felt her bottom lip quiver, how could he be gone? How could it happen just like this? Her mind was at a loss, she couldn’t fathom this. She couldn’t comprehend it.
Harry pulled her into him as she sobbed, his hand smoothing over her hair as he attempted to calm her.
Once the driver had pulled into the driveway, he looked back to Harry who gave him a nod. Penny had calmed down a little and he thought they’d be okay to go inside.
“Harry…” Penny said softly, bringing her hand to her chest.
“How is it the thing that we use to love is also be the thing that causes us to die?” She said blinking, her lips pouting as she fought back tears. She could tell Harry didn’t know what to say, but she had to voice it. She had no idea why a man with such a big heart would be failed by his strongest attribute.
A major heart attack… that was what the coroner had told them. How could it be?
“I’m not sure love, I wish I knew…” Harry finally spoke, fighting back tears himself.
“Life is cruel.” She muttered.
