THE DEATH OF YOU

Harry's pov

I can't believe she is here. And so broken. Her little body, her face all black and blue, and my heart breaks at the sight of her.
I watch not believing. I see her, surrounded by her family who are closing on her with love and affection and I want to join. I want to join so fucking much but I can't. What if this isn't real? What if my lack of sleep is making me see her? What if this is not her? What if she isn't really here? I will not be able to pull through this. I will crash. I will break, and I will not be able to come back from that.
Her eyes catch mine and her lips break into a small smile. Her dimply smile. She is crying, her eyes red, her forehead crinkled and it's what makes me move my feet. She takes one step towards me but I can tell she's in pain. I pace up to her but I don't hug or touch her. I can't. She is too broken. I might hurt her.
"Harry.." she whispers, her voice cracking, trying to stop the sob.
She reaches and touches my cheek, and that is when I realise I'm crying too. Feeling the wetness her fingers caught.
"It's ok.. I'm here.. I'm real," she whispers, smiling through her tears up at me. I nod and lift my hand. I trace her cheek with my fingers, so softly, so afraid to hurt. She closes her eyes against my touch and breathes deeply.
"You're OK.. we're ok.." I whisper back, and this time she is the one to nod. I bring my other hand to her face, cupping her cheeks in my palm and lower my head so my lips can find hers. Her lips are dry and soft at the same time, and her taste sweet as I remember. I sigh against her, releaved to have her back again. She pulls back and glances up at me.
"I knew you'd come," she smiles and then, wraps her arms around my waist squeezing me as tight as she can, holding me to her. I bring my arms around her, not returning the squeeze. I can't hurt her. I look up and notice the guy. Luke his name is. He has grown since the last time I had seen him at the school yard, all those years ago. He nods and I return one. Then, he pushes off the wall and starts walking away. He passes us and suddenly Cassie pushes back and calls his name.
"Wait!" She calls. We all turn to watch him stop and peek behind him.
She takes a few steps his way. He turns to face her then, a wondering look in his eyes.
"Thank you!" She tells him and then she pulls her arms around his neck stepping on her toes to reach him. I note his hasatation before bending and returning the hug.
"Thank you for saving me! I will never forget what you have done for me!" She promises.
"Don't thank me yet.. I still need to get your friend," he winks playfully.
"And you will!" She says knowingly. He kisses her cheek and then turns from her. This time no one stops him and a moment later he is gone.
Cassie faces back to us.
"So what have I missed?" She smirks.
She is trying to push the pain and what she has been through aside instead of facing it.
"What you've missed?? What have we missed??! I need to know everything! Who do we need to kill?" Sarah exclaims. She is shushed by the nurses, so Sam moves us all to Cassie's room. We move slowly since she is in pain. I hold on to her little fingers as we stride, cherishing the touch. Promising myself I will never let her hand go.
"I've understood I was missing for two weeks.. so what happen while I was gone?" She inquires as she gets back into her bed. She doesn't let go of my hand. She shifts to make me room so I half lay next to her. She leans her head against shoulder and I lace my finger through hers.
"What happen to you? What did they do? Is Justin? Was he beaten like you?" Sarah showers her with questions.
"Sarah!" Sam stops her. "She just got back.. let her be.. she'll tell you once she's ready," he scolds her.
I watch Cassie's face. She is thankful for Sam's two sense. She doesn't want to talk about what has been through. But I already knew she wouldn't talk. She's been here before. She wants to forget.
"Ok fine.. but you'll need to talk about it at some point," Sarah gives in. Cass grins but keeps quiet.
"Why don't we let Cass rest? I think she needs some peace and quiet before the police start with their digging," Sam decides. He doesn't want to let her out of his sight. I can tell, but at the same time he wants to give her some space.
"Do you want us to go? Do you want to sleep?" Sarah questions, not believing Cassie would actually want her gone.
"Sarah," I finally speaks. "She was kidnapped for two fucking weeks. She was beat and abused and sleep deprived and God knows what else. I think the last thing she wants right now is listening to you batching, so why don't we give her some room to breathe?" I snap. All eyes turn to me, surprised by my outburst.
"Someone got their voice back.. fine.. let's go dad.. I'll be back later when duchebag here calm down some," she tells Cass, getting up and heading out.
"We'll be right out here sweets," Sam kisses the top of her head before heading out.
Cassie then snuggles up to me, burying her face in my chest. I kiss the top of her head and pull my arms around her, holding her to me. Smelling her. Remembering her.
"Hey... " I say softly. She glances up.
"Want to hear about all you've missed?"
She nods, laying her head against me once more, taking my hand in hers and holding on to my fingers.
"I went mental.. I couldn't eat and I couldn't sleep and neither did all the others... Louis closed the shack and him and El came up with
Sam, Sarah and Guy. Mum Ben and Gem joined a few days later.. I think Ben is still with them.. he was almost as bad as me.. that bloke is crazy.. anyway everyone was out looking and digging to find where the hell you've been taken too. They tore up everything.. you disappeared."
I stop then since she shifts to glance up at me.
"Luke said something about Ben as well... I don't understand.." she furrows her brows and crinkles her nose.
"He's in love with you Cass... he's been in love with you for years!"
"He doesn't even know me!" She exclaims.
"He does.. from afar.. he started just to piss me off but then he fell in love with you for real.."
"How do you figure that?" She is having a hard time believing me.
"Can't you see? Why do you think he goes out of his way to help you?"
"For you!" She states.
"No.. for you," I correct her.
"No.. you're wrong Harry... Ben loves you! Like it or not you're like brothers," she argues.
I shake my head.
"You're wrong! He'll go to the moon and back for you Cass.. when mum and Gem came.. he came with and he threw me such a punch... for losing you.. he was screaming and crying.. Gem had to pull him away and out.. why do you think Jade dumped him? She couldn't take being second to you. You just need to ask and he'll jump and the only thing that stopped me from killing him for loving you was the fact that I know with my whole heart that you love me more," I explain.
"I love you more? I don't love Ben at all!" She hurries to claim.
"You do. Maybe not at the same way you love me but you have a soft spot for him."
"How can you possibly know what Ben feels? Up until like yesterday you couldn't remember me," she states.
I let out a chuckle.
"For God's sake Cass I don't need to know neither of you to know how he feels about you," I trace her cheek with my fingers.
"What else has happen? I need to know everything!"
"It doesn't matter darling... it's all in the past.. the only thing that matters is that you're here," I kiss her and pull her loser.
"But I was missing for two weeks! How did that happen? How has such a long time passed and how wasn't I found sooner?! I need to fill in the blanks!" She pushes, panic to her voice.
"I don't know love.. but you're here now.. I've got you... you're safe," I whisper into her ear.
"Am I? Am I safe? What if he finds me? What if he takes someone else? How was I there for a fortnight??? How did so much time pass and I don't even know?" Her voice breaks and tears run down her face.
"Oh Cass... don't cry.. it'll come back! I lost my memory and it all came back.. so will yours," I promise her.
The tears stop after a short while and she drifts off to sleep. I hold her as she does and hope to God she is able to get over this tragedy.
I get out my phone and start answering texts from our friends and family. Most just want to know how Cass is holding up.
I reply to my mum and El, ignoring all the rest. I know they care, and concern but right now I don't really give a shit.
I send a quick message to Liam who is the only one who hasn't pestered me since we have left.
'She's safe mate. I've got her. I'll have her call you if she's up for it. See when we get back.'
I text Sarah some even though she is across the hall. I let her know Cass is asleep and she is letting me in on everything Hendrix is telling them.
They are still looking for Justin. They have found some of dick head's men and brought them in. his dad was found as well. I hope he does time that bastard. It is his entire fucking fault.
I put my phone down and close my eyes, resting my head back. I'm narked. I decide to catch on a few more hours of sleep when my phone rings again. I let out a stream of curses before glancing at the caller ID. I curse again but answer him.
"Have you seen her?"
"Yeah.. with her right now," I murmur.
"How hurt is she?"
He doesn't ask to speak with her or if she's hurt. He knows she is and knows that even if he asked he wouldn't get to talk to her.
"She'll heal.. you should get some sleep now."
"You too," He snaps. I let out a soft chuckle.
"I was about to and then you called."
"And you answered me.."
"I owe it to you mate..."
"You take care of her you hear me," he says before he hangs up.
"Who was that?" Cass questions her voice low and sleepy.
"Ben."
