All Because of a Rose

Missing Visit

I slammed my car door close as I ran up to my front door and opened it to be greeted by my parents who arrived earlier than I expected.

“Rose! Why are you here so early?” My mum asked as she came up to me with a hug along with my father behind her.

“I just felt horrible and I just decided to skip lunch and come home and go to the hospital to work on Celia’s funeral.” I answered as I hugged my mother and father.

“Why are you here so early?” I asked confused.

“We got lucky and found two seats available on the next plane that was heading towards here.” My father said.

“So do you have to go back to Africa? Or did they give you a break?” I asked.

“Sadly no.” My mum said as she let go of our hug shaking her head.

“They just don’t have enough volunteers for the village trip, Thursday.” My mum said as she looked upset.

“I hope your fine with this, since we won’t be here for the majority of Celia’s funeral planning.” My father said.

“Ohh…..It’s fine….” I said hiding the truth.

I was very upset but they had to do what they had to do and I needed to grow up.

“In fact, your father and I were just about to leave to go to the hospital to check out Celia’s body and go over to the Funeral Log. Would you like to go with us, Honey?” My mum asked.

“Yeah sure.” I said quietly as I put my jacket back on as my father got the keys and we headed out to the hospital.

As soon as we got to the hospital my mother and I went to go sit down as my father went to the front desk, to ask for the room holding my sister.

As I sat down my mother started talking to me about the things they had done when they were in Africa, while I felt goose bumps on my arm and looked up to feel a presence of someone staring at me.

I first saw the deep brown eyes first then realized I was staring back at Liam, who was on the other side of the door while my mum snapped me out of my trance from his stare.
“Honey, are you feeling fine?” My mother asked me as I looked back to an only empty spot of where he once stood.

“Ahhh, ye- yeah.” I said trying to hold back my freaked out feelings from Liam.

Like why was he here?

And why was he now showing up after Celia’s death?

Both my mother and my head shot up as my father came back in and announced the room number for Celia’s holding.

“Room number 356.” He announced as we headed off towards the destination.

“354, 355, and here we are, 356.” My father said quietly as all our moods became gloomy of the reason we were about to see Celia’s dead body for the first time, well not me since I saw her body last night on the cold metal table.

‘I don’t think I can do this.” My mother said as she had tears brimming her eyes with my father’s protective arm around my mother’s shoulders.

“We need to get this over with or Rose will be having to be doing this all by herself.” My father whispered to my mum as my mother wiped her tears with a tissue.

“I don’t want Rose to be doing this all by herself, let’s just get this done.” My mum said as we entered the room.

My father turned on the light as I followed behind them and made a short stop as my father and mother made an abrupt stop in front of me.

“I could have sworn the lady at the front desk said room 356. Hmmm, maybe I heard wrong.” I heard my father say as we all stared at an empty room with only a metal table in the center.

“Rose, was this the room you remember Celia being stored in?” My father asked me.
I tried to think back to last night as I remembered all the blurriness and tears blurring my vision.

“I don’t remember.”

“Well I’m sure they gave us the wrong room number.” My mother said.

“Let’s go check and get this right.” My father said as we followed him back towards the front desk.

“Hello sir, are you done with the visitation of Celia McChale? Do you need us to get the body ready in the casket yet?” the lady asked as she stared at us with grey eyes.

“Actually, we think you may have given us the wrong room number.” My father spoke back politely.

The lady looked confused and looked back at her computer as she typed at her computer.

“I’m sorry sir, but the computer has it that the room number is 356.” As she turned the computer around to show us.

“But where was my daughter?” my father asked getting angry as he rose his voice.

“Let me call the casket carrier and see if they picked her up yet.” the lady said as she picked up the white phone next her and dialed a number.

“Hello, this is Susan, and we have had a little problem with a body that has gone missing. Do you have any idea if any of your man have accidently checked her body out by accident?” the lady asked.

“Ohh, yes her name is Celia McHale, the number is 356.” She said into the phone.

She gave a look of worry as she quickly said bye into the phone and hung it up as she look back up at us with an upset face.

“The casket carrier has no report on Celia’s body. The only body they checked out today was a fifty- five year old man who he saw with his own eyes.” She said.

“You mean someone has stolen our dead daughter without no one seeing!” my father yelled.

“Do you have any surveillance cameras around?” my mother asked kindly trying to calm my father down.

“Yes we do, but they have been in repair since only last week they all mysteriously broke down.”

“I only saw her body yesterday.” I said quietly.

“That means they can’t be that far whoever stole her body.” I said.

“I’ll get the police on this case.” The lady said as she picked back up the white phone and dialed 911.

As soon as she finished talking to the police my mother and father starting talking to each other as I started feeling sick to my stomach.

Who would steal a dead body and how would they?

And who would be that cruel?

“Mum I’m going to go outside and take a walk.” I said as I felt like any moment I would get sick.

I walked out before she could even answer me as all I wanted to be was by myself or I would break.
