Something Good Can Work

Fire and Gold in our eyes

I had spoken to Harry once more that night; he said he’d see me at school. I was so smitten with my Sunday that I almost forgot the next day was the beginning of the end of my life.
The school system here is totally different. For started I was apparently starting “sixth form” or “College” I was way behind and way out of my element. There were no cheerleaders, no football players, no organized sports at all really. Just sports clubs, whatever that is. I had dressed in a pair of blue skinny jeans, a white lacey camisole covered by a tan cardigan, and finished off with a pair of black Chuck Taylors. I was going for simple and classic.
I had on less makeup than the other girls, they all looked like they were going to a club or something. I must have looked super modest.
“Wait up!” I hear a familiar Irish accent calling from behind; I turn and smile as Niall runs up beside me.
“Hey you.” I was admittedly nervous to see him, I hadn’t heard from him since I almost threw up on him.
“So you never called.” He said with an over exaggerated frown. I tilted my head, arching a brow in confusion.
“I don’t even have your number?” I defended, not sure why he would expect me to call him. He shook his head, pulling my phone from my hands and sliding it open, he knew my code, which was odd. He scrolled to the contacts and then typed in the word “Irish” a name popped up, “Irish Princess” and I laughed. I didn’t remember getting his number.
“You insisted I put it in your phone that way, you said it was the only way you’d remember.” He said with a laugh and handed the phone back to me. I shook my head.
“I’m so sorry, clearly that didn’t work. I don’t even remember you putting your phone in there. I drank entirely too much.” I said feeling slightly embarrassed. He shrugged and gave me a smile, he had braces and that was fucking adorable.
“No problem. How was your Sunday? Did you feel any better?” We were walking slowly, I wasn’t even really sure where I was going, but I was happy to be talking to him.
“Uh, yeah. I was okay I just kinda hung out around the house…” I lied, looking down at the floor, a dead giveaway I was lying, but luckily he didn’t know me well enough to know that.
“Good, I’m glad. What class do you have first?” He smiled, he didn’t suspect a thing.
I pulled my schedule from my book, handing it to him.
“Drama and Theatre studies, are you theatrical love?” He asked, handing the paper back to me. I shrugged, I signed up for the classes that looked the most fun in all honesty.
“I guess, maybe I can be?” I said with a smile.
“It’s right ‘round the corner there, I can walk you.” He said sweetly, leading the way toward my classroom. I had a rush of butterflies in my stomach as we approached the door. I knew no one. I was alone. I was beyond scared. I was about to say goodbye to Niall when a rush of brunette curls rushed toward us, Harry was walking into the class but not before stopping between the two of us.
“Hello lightweight, you look better than yesterday.” He said with a smirk and then went into the room, leaving me there, caught in a lie with Niall. He looked confused, his head tilting.
“He came by yesterday to make sure I was okay, he walked me home Saturday night.” I admitted sheepishly.
“Oh, right then.” Was all he said before turning and walking in the opposite direction. I sighed and threw my head back before walking into the room. Harry had saved me a seat, I thought about sitting far away from him, but it would be much lonelier that way.
I walked up and sat my bag down, giving him a glare before taking a seat beside him. The room was set up with tables and chairs with two people to a table.
“What’s the problem?” He said, noticing my attitude.
I turned, cocking my head to the side. “Did you have to mention me looking bad yesterday or the fact that you saw me at all?” I asked, giving him a frown.
“You ashamed of me?” He said, pressing his hand to his chest and giving me a shocked expression.
“No, I just… didn’t want Niall to know I was with you and now he’s all pouty.” I answered honestly.
Harry offered me a sympathetic look, reaching over and pulling a book from his bag. He took a second and then looked back at me.
“Why is there something to hide? Why didn’t you just tell him you were with me?” He asked, challenging me.
I chewed on my bottom lip, shrugging. I didn’t know. I didn’t know why I could talk to Harry so easily and not Niall.
“I don’t know…I didn’t want him to think…” I furrowed my brows, my eyes looking back down at the desk. Damn lying tick.
“Say no more.” He said, cracking open his book.
I didn’t say anything, he really could read me.
